Evoking images of the earliest days of the Goodwood motor Circuit, the Goodwood Trophy is a race for pre- and post-war Grand Prix cars. These were the cars that were used right at the beginning of Goodwood's life. Filled with Alfa Romeos, Maseratis, ERAs and BRMs it both looks and sounds amazing.

My favourite race of the weekend! Especially Ian Baxter's successful "ambush" to win the race at the very last second!!! He is so focused in that attack, he never noticed the checkered flag! Also, loving that 158 "Alfetta" which finished the race in 8th...

There's a story that the ERA R4D was once tested at Donington Park while some British Formula 3 drivers were doing their own testing. The Formula 3 drivers can't pass the old ERA, as while they gain under braking and cornering, the ERA just leaves them for dead under acceleration!

@@MrDrakePrice that's because they only rev it to around 7,000-7,500rpm these days. An Alfetta revving at it's proper rev limit of 8,500-9,000rpm is, I'd say, even better than the BRM, partly because it will happily run like that for hours, the BRM never do...

I'd guess 10,000rpm. 12,000 is doable, but possibly only in short bursts, as the engine isn't that reliable...

10K if you want it to sort of have it in a decent shape after the race but still have to repair it because the materials used to make it were second and third grade alloys. 12K if you just don't care and you're fed up with it scorching your legs.

He's not showboating. Mark Gillies explained that the track is very oily, which explains the number of off-road moments between him and Rob Hall in the BRM during the race. And later in the race, they all have slowed down. Only that at the final lap, Ian Baxter took his chances and tried to push harder. It also helped that the Alta is actually a very potent car.

The BRM driver missed a shift at 11:54, then he started loosing pace, it wasn't the car's fault.

What do you mean? A mis-shift would only make you slower on that lap, not the remainder of the race. Clearly, something started playing up with the car, again...

@@MrDrakePrice the V16 was can do more than 12,000rpm according to its design. Chances are, they're only using 10,000rpm nowadays.

@@MrDrakePrice I really don't think that's it. Sounds like 12k at most to me. Also, the car was already smoking bluish smoke well before that, so whatever it is that led to the car's retirement it definitely isn't what you timestamped, could easily be any of the thousand tiny bits that could malfunction in the V16 engine, which was already known to be fragile...

They always release the entry list before the events, listing all the cars, entrants and drivers. And afterwards, the timing sheets of all the races were also published online, so you can see the car and its year, and the driver, along with their qualifying and race results and their lap times. Just search for "tsl timing Goodwood"

It's the V16, not the H16. Those were two completely different engines, fitted to different cars in different eras. It's impossible to even confuse the two!

@@jcgabriel1569 yep looks like you are correct. I was under the impression that BRM had built an H16 in the '50s,, but clearly it was a V16. Looking at this replica car itself, surely they did not have Disc Brakes in period ? I knew about the '60s 3litre H16.

@@andyb.1026 the disc brakes were fitted in late 1951, after the season had finished. And it was fitted with disc brakes ever since. Though as you can probably see here, it's not really an advantage over drum brakes... maybe it had something to do with the fact that it's on a BRM...

@@andyb.1026 I'm a Mech. Engineer by trade, had to model the BRM P15 (that's the name of the car) along with @jcgabriel1569, by doing a lot of research on the company itself. Even internal BRM reports call it a pile of crap, so... it's not really disparaging.
