I was thinking of content that I think you might get a lot of views and what I thought was showing the different cleaning tools you used to get the parts so clean. I felt like I was spending so much time with brushes that wouldn't reach places or wondering if should I put these parts in the washing machine or whatever. I am sure there are others like me. Dyson don't tell people how fast they clog up. I have stripped and cleaned several for other people. But I learned more from your videos. At my local recycling center I have seen 30 plus abandoned Dysons; that JUST needed to be stripped and cleaned.

My dyson was screaming in agony every time I used it. It’s never been deep cleaned ever in 4/5yrs apart from the filters. I was ready to buy a new one but after watching this video and following all the clear instructions there’s no need to buy a new one. Only problem I had is I didn’t have a long enough torx to get the last part of the cyclone apart but still I gave it a good clean. I have a new dyson again!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!

Fantastic video. I looked at several other videos, and this is the only one that walks you clearly through all the steps. I am not very handy and am amazed I was able to do this. Very complicated but you break it down beautifully. You should note at the beginning that you need a long T15 screwdriver to to this. I was lucky to have one. Thanks again.

Beautiful! I got a second hand light ball allergy for £60 because of a blockage, I fixed it in 5 minutes and it works perfectly. Just needs to be deep cleaned, and now I know how! 👍

Thank you so much for this tutorial! We broke the release clip during a move and the parts available require replacement of both the release and the flag piece. Took the opportunity to clean everything since it all had to come apart. A tiny standard will work for those torque heads if you're careful

Thank you so much for this video. My older (2011) DC41’s red canister release catch button snapped, rendering my machine unusable and all the purchasable aftermarket catch button parts are for the newer Dc 41s with a different sized “plunger” etc. My options were either a new cyclone for $100 or a new machine for $300 plus. I bought the ‘wrong’ 10$ version piece off amazon and told myself I’m going to figure out how to make this work. This video was the key. Not only did I give my machine the deep cleaning I now know it clearly needed 😩, but, I saved myself several hundreds of dollars. The new piece retro fitted once I was able to removed all the other connecting pieces, and replace them too. This Covid-unemployed left handed handy bartender sincerely appreciates you generously sharing your patient detailed knowledge and left-handed video.

This is brilliant. Just saved me a fortune on buying a new Dyson. Ours (actually a DC40) was in a terrible state with brick dust which can ruin the workings. I’ve cleaned it through using these instructions so thanks for taking the time to create this !

This is exactly what I was looking for! I was able to pick up a used DC41 for $50, but could not get rid of the heavy dog smell, even after washing the filters. The culprit was absolutely the cyclone and the rubber seals in the dust bin. I admit I was very stressed taking it apart but I trusted the process and had success! Thank you for saving me money and giving me confidence to do it myself!

AWESOME. I have been trying to figure out how to get behind the screen without destroying the vacuum, which I have a tendency to do with plastic items. Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown. My Dyson still works great but every time I run it, it smells of dog since most of what it vacuums up is dog hair and dog dirt. Well, just did the complete breakdown as you showed in the video and it did take me 2 hours but it looks and smells like it was brand new. I’m actually giving the vacuum to a friend but I didn’t want to give it away in the condition that it was in. Thanks again and have an awesome weekend.

GREAT job on this video!!!! Easy to follow and very thorough. I tried to find a replacement gasket/filter, the one that you put some electrical tape on, and after driving 75 miles, one way, to my nearest Dyson service center (I did call them the day before and I described it and they said they had one and put my name on it. BUT, it was the thicker rubber one so luckily I brought the torn one with me. Technician said that they don't have that and I would need a entire cyclone unit and how did I get to it. I explained your process and mentioned that I drove 75 miles after explaining in detail what I need.....he said...."Wait a few minutes":....came back out with a partially disassembled cyclone unit and said "since you got to that part you should be able to get this together"....no charge!!!!!! Kudo's to Chris at the King of Prussia, PA service center!!!!! And to you for the video. Thanks

Thanks you so much for this video! The piece that pushes the long red bar to open the canister broke on mine and I could NOT figure out how to change it out. Come to find out the design is ridiculous and you have to practically take the whole thing apart to fix it… and you helped with that!

I have long, thick hair & have to maintain care of my vacuums at least once a month but I had never taken the canister apart. Mine wasn't caked in gunk like the one in the video but I don't vacuum wet carpet. My Mom has half a dozen vacuums that all have that disgusting smell🤢 Once again,thanks so much!

Truly! It looked brand new when you reassembled the dust bin. Did you pre-wash those parts and put them in the dishwasher? I admire a thorough cleaning. (Of anything.) BONUS lesson I learnt today: Some men DO know how to throughly clean things.

I find so many in the garbage on garbage day. Most of the time they are just plugged up, other they need a part (which I’ll buy for cheap on Kijiji). Thanks for the great video,, I benefited alot though I did not need to open my Dyson to that extent just the first 2min part .... but at least now I know how much experience is needed to work on this thing and the needed trial and error on the newer models.

Don't know if you still read these comments but firstly, thank you for your calm, well-filmed video. There were only a couple of parts where I couldn't see what you were doing. My husband was impressed I could take it all apart. Well, as I had no clue what a T15 screwdriver was he did have to scrounge around and find one we could use that was barely long enough. :) With all the washing and dry time this took me several days. It took me 1-1/2 hours to get that spring back on properly while putting on the next part that held it all in place. Needed an extra hand! I had no trouble with the outer canister gasket but I am still stuck on the smaller gasket. It evidently somehow stretched although I took it off gently and didn't pull. The inner edge will go down in its channel but the outer edge will not. I get it in most of the way around and then I'm left with excess material. In home sewing this is worse than setting in a sleeve! So I thought I'd just buy a new one. None to be found even on Ebay. I could spend $30-40 for a new canister which I don't want to do. So I researched shrinking rubber. Hair dryer trick for 5 minutes made no change. I held my breath and tried the boiling water for 5 minutes (was afraid to go 10!). Still no change. How important is it for the gasket to be down in the channel on the outer edge of this gasket if the inner edge is in its channel? Help!!!

Very good job. Need another canister, check with your Hoover/Shark dealer. People trade Dysons in and they end up in the dumpsters. Local dealer has given me two canisters. Both were clogged because of liquid! Yes were your respiratory, they smell to hi-heaven. All they need is a good cleaning. Mine are headed to my diy router table vacuum system.

Excellent explanation of process, and visual. I have a DC41, and it is exactly like the patient being operated on, here. I have had this sweeper since 2015, and done this 5 times, haven't broken anything, yet. Over the years, the filter in the top has never had any dirt or dust in it. I don't think the air actually moves through it, or else the dirt has always collected on the Cyclone surfaces. The filthy dirt and dust is deffinately in the Cyclone, but never in the filter.

Recently upgraded to a Sebo Essential G4 from a Dyson DC41. I forgot how easy it is to maintai bagged vacuums and how much cleaner my carpets look. I kept my Dyson immaculate and those cyclones still clogged with fine pet hair and general gunk. Can't believe I drank the Dyson koolaid. Bagged is way more hygenic and a more humane way to extract and dispose of dirt.

Hi, thanks for your video. You covered what I needed. By the way, my vacuum canister inners looked just like this one (as caked). I never got mine wet but I do live near the ocean so I think the high humidity has caused the caked effect unfortunately.

Super helpful, thanks. I disassembled and cleaned the bottom nozzle and brush assembly, then got to the screen assembly part by myself, and got stuck. Everything on the inside still smelled, so I intend to do everything in this vid tonight to finish cleaning it properly. I understand you used soap and water to clean. Do you think vinegar or clorox disinfecting spray could also help, since it kills all the germs that cause the smell?

Thanks so much! I gave my Dyson a deep clean following these excellent instructions! However, I am about to give up on the machine: It's parts are slowly breaking. The wheel over the filter has been broken for a while, the cannister is now held on by a bungee core, and I've never liked the dirst that escapes from the cannister. It does have great suction, but 'm not sure I want another messy bagless machine that falls apart! May want to go back to a bagged, cannister vac. Recommendations?

Amazing tutorial. Thank you. Before finding this great step by step guide I’ve just washed the whole thing with running lukewarm water through the whole thing and shook up and down, side to side to get as much dirt out as possible, which also resulted in a bit of steam inside the blue cap right at the top of the cyclone which you’ve warned us against in your video. I’ve dried the whole thing in the sun which seems ok except for the trapped steam in that blue cap. Do you have any suggestions how to get rid of the unsightly steam please? Thank you very much.

This was a great video and I was able to get the nasty thing opened up and clean everything. Went back together just fine and even got the spring in right the first time. HOWEVER.... I lost some suction from the process. It definitely isn't hugging the carpet as hard as before. The only thing that I may have done wrong is put one of the thin little gaskets on upside down. Can't imagine that would cause noticeable loss of suction though. I know this video was posted a few years ago, but does anyone have any thoughts on why I've lost some suction even though it's now squeaky clean? Update: I may have figured out the issue. The little silver button that releases the dust bin wasn't in correctly and didn't snap in place to hold the dust bin securely. All good now! Thanks for the great video!
