Valheim Ashlands - No More Crying In The Rain

With the Ashlands update out now, one of the first things you will discover if you have killed the Queen is this new Shield Generator. It is to protect you from the enviroment in Ashlands where it rains fire... or in the meadows! You can now protec your base from that rain damage and not have to worry about wet debuff when working outside in your base... or how about a rain free base in the swamps?

Vikings used tar to waterproof ships. Would be cooler to just apply tar to parts you want waterproofed like decks, porches, ect. instead of just circumventing the whole system at endgame with a magic bubble.

I'd take a silent option like that too :D I do like the bubble, but its noisy. Its good in the ashlands though for protection against projectiles.

Some noteworthy things I also do, is to place a stone pillar snapped underneath some wood structures. It can make for some "rainproof" docks if you have the space/stone for it.

The tooltip says "Creates a shield to protect against weather and incoming projectiles" So my mind went straight to rain damage :D But yeah, I guess that is mostly a pleasent side effect :) Hope its not a bug they fix :D

It sure does :) unprotected fire is still put out though, not sure if that is a bug or intended.

I'm kind of disappointed with the shield generator tbh. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool concept for your ashlands outpost, but I was so excited thinking in this biome they were going to add a way to protect regular building pieces. Maybe you make a lacquer version of each non-roof piece that costs the base wood + resin, or something like that. I know they added the ashwood pieces which do take rain damage but don't show the difference that much, and that's good, but it would still be nice if we could just build freely with all the pieces in the game without needing to build a roof over every damn thing. Or now have a shield bubble over every damn thing. Just let us build water-resistant pieces with a different cost!

Some way of waterproofing pieces like that would be nice yeah, and it would fit well into the world/style etc. Maybe they will add something like that as an quiality of life update.. or a world modifier. Like Smalland does where you can turn off weather damage if you just want to build and chill.

@@just5moremins Yeah. I know there are mods that remove water dmg entirely, I've just been avoiding mods while the game is still in early access. (Also mostly play with my friends on a dedicated server which is not set up for modding currently anyway.)

@@thebeatts Understandable! I do mods when I just want to build, and for normal playthrough there is a server that do fresh starts every now and then and that is close to normal with just some modding for security and quality of life stuff.

The only issue is the generator makes way too much noise, and makes various sounds while in it. The sounds outside of it get distorted as well as the view out of the bubble. You will randomly hear the sounds of wood buildings taking damage, boars dying, skeletons, etc.

Yeah, after a while the sound gets to be a little too much. And you can only turn it off by demolishing it. So either fixing the sound on it, or make it so you can turn it off.. or maybe it only made sounds when it was "defending" against something or other.. dunno, something else than what it is now :)

Enemies can enter the bubble, but if they shoot from the outside towards you the shield will block the projectile

I wish the shield generator was quieter. It’d be cool to have a base bubble but I don’t think I could stand the noise.

It is a little noisy yes, would be nice to have an option for it to go in quiet mode :)

Im curious, what is the consumption rate? Is it slow or rather fast?

As far as I have experienced it depends on how much damage it recives. So in ashlands during a storm, it goes down a bone every 1-2min, but in the meadows.. unless you get a raid that damages it seems like it will not consume anything. Mine was up for over an hour so far with one bone before i logged out.

how long does the shield last if you only put one bone for example?

Not sure really, I had it on for over an hour at least.Dont think it uses the "fuel" as long as it does not get damaged. Under a Ashlands storm, one bone could last you a couple of minutes maybe, seems to depend on how much the shield gets hit.

It does not protect against the cold unfortunately :) It does remove the snowing part inside the bubble, but you still get the fog/mist.

@@just5moremins no it's not less protective. Open roof means tolls gonna smack you straight through it with a log.

@@apocrising2758 Them troll be smacking your roof down too :) If you want to avoid trolls you need some defense. Simplest is raising the ground for a wall. And there are other options too. Cant hit you if they cant reach you :)

@@just5moremins I have spikes to perfection they can't even destroy them or get to them before they take a hit from the flowers staggered top hits them instant dead love those ashwood spikes. Wish I could make any spikes out of different wood or even stone.
