How the Voice Actor said 'War makes men mad." is one of the most impactful lines in this entire monologue. The slight changes to his voice are really something that shouldn't go without reward.
I just came back to it to watch this just because of the impact that spoken line had on me while I was watching the Walkthrough of the game some time ago. That stuck with me heavily. It also deeply touches me. Glad somebody else found that, too.
Same here. A couple of months ago I played this and also another game called "Spec Ops: The Line". I have never since taken solace in a FPS military game, and I am glad about that. War is no game. If you can get hold of Spec Ops, I would urge you to play this as well for its incredible story.
Man. . . It's not like me to cry usually I'm solid but this made me get tears in my eyes but I didn't cry thought it was just that I caught something in my eyes. . . they were tears i3i
Nah some of the stuff in the game wasn’t even a thing. Like when Karl was escaping with the one chick (forgot her name) there was that super armored car and I don’t think they had that tech back then
I originally was gonna miss this one too but as it was coming out I started to really like the narrator and so I bought it just for that and didnt regret it since this is a gem of a game.
@Fuck you A gold ol rub The puzzle mission were just a bit tedious. They could have done better. The history aspect is nice. And the emotional anti-war story is incredibly good. This is one of the best games Ubi ever created. BUT as I said. The puzzles were tedious more than once in this game.
@@canicheenrage The Montreal team isn't even that bad the only games I've really seen people cry about from them Is Farcry 4, Watch dogs, and AC Unity. Most recent games from them like AC Origins are actaually pretty damn good.
@@Morgan02 You think so? Ubisoft Montreal games are just mediocre. They have nothing special or mind blowing. But Ubisoft Montpellier makes really great games such Valiant Hearts or Child of Light.
@@MedievalRainChannel Yes Assassin's Creed 2 was a masterpeice, it was emotional at parts and the music was fantastic, in fact mostly all Assassins Creed games from the Montreal team have been amazing, Unity wasn't that bad but its not the best, and don't come at me about Odyessy or Sydicate that was a different team. And their other games the Farcry series Farcry 2 was really good and detailed and is alot of peoples favourite, Farcry 3 people loved, this one is probably considered the best FC game, now Splinter Cell those are some of peoples Favourite Stealth games ever made, and the Rainbow Six games, Siege is probably one of the most popular First person shooters out there right now. All studios have their goods and bads even Montpellier, like Zombiu, and I guess we'll have to see how Beyond Good And Evil 2 will do.
Beyond two souls made me cry so bad that im still not over it....i just played "lost cause" as i do every other week and even when i play it the feeling of jodie is creeping up making me shed a tear once again. I dont think ill ever get over that game
One thing that lingers in my mind is what will happen to Karl's son? He was but an infant at the beginning of WW1, so he'll be in his mid 30's during the time of WWII. It's just sad when you play this whole game, get attached to the characters and just want to think "well things will be better now." When really they will become far worse in a matter of time.
I heard our time on earth was brief and I started shouting SON OF A BITCH DON'T YOU FUCKING DIE ON ME!! *dies* *starts crying and thinks life over again and again-
I feel that for Emile, the war ended where it began: He started out raising the 150th's flag with the regiment at attention, from what I can tell, the same compound he was being detained at was the same one where he was issued his uniform. The same flag is in the background, and the regiment pays respects to him. Only he's headed in the opposite direction from when he first started out, towards home.
@agentc7020 Possibly, but just not at the same depot. He’d have probably been held at some camp closer to the front. Maybe a different regiment’s depot that was being occupied by men from his regiment.
It can’t be, the area he had been enlisted had high walls and 4 story buildings in the background. The flag was also in like a big, empty space while this area is more farm-like and rural
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old;age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them
Dearest Marie, As war ends for me, I have no regrets. I've seen too much horror. I hope fate has been merciful to you. Our time on Earth is brief. Mine has been filled with so much joy, I can only be thankful for how much I've been blessed. Most specially, for the wonder you brought into my life. This letter will be my last. I have been found guilty by a military court for a death of an officer. It was not my intention to kill him. War makes men mad. And though I failed Karl, I know my sacrifice will not have been in vain. I fought for my country and liberty. My honour is assured. Since it is the will of God to separate men on Earth, I hope we will meet again in heaven. Keep me your prayers. Your loving papa, Always.
xXArmy256Xx YT Even though their bodies have long since returned to dust, their sacrafice still lives on... We must strive to cherish their memory.. And never forget....
RIP ma boi 2018 (at the future portal opened to a universe where emiley acttully lived) giving a flower to his comrades and family members and ........ himself....
I prefer the original version when he said "J'ai tenu mon rang pour la France" it's mean "I held my rank for France" it's more powerfull in my opinion but I don't think it works the same in english
wrongly attributed to Plato by General MacArthur and the earliest publication of the quote is from George Santayana's "Soliloquies in England and Later Soliloquies" (1922).
My honour is assured, since it is the will of god to separate us on earth, I hope we will meet again in heaven, keep me in your prayers, your loving papa, always."
TBH, I initially thought that Emile was going to go out and see his daughter who was visiting him at the Detention Barrack, and he will be overjoyed to see Karl reunited with her. Then I realized, that this form of privilege was not available back then... then the song played, and the narration started, then the tears started to flow out as the truth kicked in, the pole came into sight, I shut my eyes, covered my ears, and bawled like a little baby. This game, was just absolutely beautiful. It shows the horrors of war, without the use of much gore or violence. Being able to invoke such sentiments from players, with such a simple game, and an amazing story, this game achieves what many games today can't. Just hope that there will be more games like these in the future, truly look forward to it!
@History Legends Ubisoft have differnt development teams this was made by Ubisoft Montpellier who have nothing to do with the AC games, I think the next game from this team is Beyond Good And Evil 2 if im not mistaken.
This, this is no simple game, this is a work of art, it, with its simple graphic and simple play style, was able to draw forth so much emotion, unlike most war games, it showed the human side of war, it showed the flaws of the countries we consider the good guys, and the good of those we would consider the bad guys, its beautiful
hawk2274 Vision this game wasn’t just about graphics, or just for amusement, but to show how reality is.. the music, and especially the song at the end, fit perfect and made the story so much better! Games like these really open your eyes and heart... make you cry, and rethink what you’ve been given. It’s beautiful how the simplest things can have the greatest effect on all of us, isn’t it?
But.. That officier deserved it! He was sending so many soldiers blindly to their deaths. Emile saved a lot of lives... while sacrificing his own. R.I.P. all the man and woman who suffered because of other people. may you rest in peace (i hope for them that is what happens after death)
+Paul de Groot They were more making an example out of him than really punishing him. The fact remained that he (accidentally) killed an officer while trying to knock them out.
It is an order from the general, the officer is not a bad guy, he was forced to do this, otherwise there will be no discipline in the army. A good example is a Russian army after collapse of Russian Empire, but before the October Revolution. Officers were not allowed to send soldiers to attack, until "soldier committee" agrees too, and ofc they never agreed, because noone wants to die.
When the narrator says that "We must strive to cherish their memory and never forget." I've spent constant hours of time dedicated to doing just that. Also it sucks they don't use this game to teach at schools.
IWaitedALongTimeToChangeMyNameAndThisIsIt I’m very tempted to do just that, maybe make it part of a course on WW1 to really dig at the student’s heartstrings. After all it’s fairly clean for a war game. With a breadth of meaning far different from what many contemporaries can convey. It is extremely tempting.

I came to a stop. I stopped, a few feet away from the post, and stood there, because I didn’t want to walk up and end it. I couldn’t. Finally I did. I saw the crosses. The title. And that was it.
it's stupid but after playing this game i undestood why the father of my gramma shot his own hand to avoid the last attack in osterreich and just few days after in a letter asked the wife to give to my gramma the name Italia. respect.
I've yet to see you raise any point besides playground insults. I mean, it was what I was fully expecting from someone like you, but still, maybe you could learn how to attempt to mismantle people besides screeching like a child and hoping it goes away, hmmm?
Ah, I was missing this one. The classic "call them a child with a keyboard or a Neet that lives on their parents basement", the perfect way to both insult everyone and feel better about yourself. Extra points if used by an actual child or neet. I'm not ruling out neither, seeing your behaviour. The emoji at the end is just the cherry at the top, confirming how you haven't used this site before at least since the mid 2010's, when the most obnoxious, mass media fed part of Generation Z entered RU-vid with their trends. Thank you, really. This was really fun. It also seems I've riled you up enough for you to dig up my profile. Hope you liked the video, it was a fun University project, first time I ever edited anything. Quite the learning experience, didn't know how fun it could be. Anyways, keep being you, kid, I'm sure you're gonna have some great learning experiences in the future. Also, talking about learning, I'd recommend an English book. I learnt the language thru TV and I can speak it better than you. Kinda pathetic, really.
Yeah, it makes me sad that it doesn't gonna have a sequel, it's just a 100th anniversary of WWI you don't make a sequel of an anniversary 4 years later and even if it has a sequel Emile is dead now so se wont would have our heavy-hearted frenchman. Also Valiant Hearts is better in terms of plot than in gameplay IMO, the puzzles are somewhat boring and dont represents a challenge to an average gamer. It's an underrated game with a GREAT emotional plot despite his flaws. P.D.: Sorry for my English, I use to speak Spanish. P.D.2: Please, save your Marvel #ENDGAME spoilers please, thank you :)
i've seen so many videos of "sadest videogames death's of all time" and stuff like that and this hasn't been on a single one, and that makes me so upset because this easily beats out 90% of all those things in those videos

*An officer sending hundreds of men to their deaths pointlessly* France:It's for our victory *An officer getting killed by a friendly* France: Wow, that was uncalled for
There was a poem by a German soldier after the war:"The soldier beat a man to death. At the court the judge said: "You can't beat a man to death." "Why not?",asked the soldier." The poet was about 20 years old.
The story is absolutely stunning. And this ending.. war always extinguishes even the brightest flames of humanity. In my family, mothers have lost both of their sons and some who survived came back very different and broken.

To those who lost their family menbers to the war, To those who have lost their mother or father to the war. I hope you could or can mourn their death one more last before you could join them one last time. This game reminds us not to disrespect the elderly especially they are war veterans or elites as they much of it as we do not
The ending is the best. I saw youtubers play this game and the ending almost made me cry. Now 4 years later, it still does. I never felt emotional to other games or movies. But because this is real. Its really sad.
I finished this game in one sitting when it came out...I'm a father of four children and was in the army and I'm not going to lie I cried at the end. Awesome game
