Picked up this 7500 watt Valsi generator pretty cheap. Not sure if it runs. The battery is dead no no pull start. Will work to restore this into a good running machine again.

I had a Honda EX 1000 for about 20 years. About 15 years ago it stopped producing power. I finally pulled it apart and found a wire that had broken off from a 13uif exciter capacitor. I could have soldered it back on but decided to replace it. My local Honda dealer wanted $100 plus shipping for it, so I decided to ourchase it online and got a very similar c15uf capacitor for $10. I put it in and bingo, she produced power, again. I never had any problems with it, even though I sold it several years later.

Nice! Honda's work well. Don't get too many of those. That said, got a Honda eu2000i video in the works with low compression. Only 6 years old! Would have never thought.

Pro tips: Put thin rubber mat under battery, I buy rolls of the stuff, 10$ at the local hardware store, I use glue to keep it in place, that way, the paint won't rub off, and if the battery leaks, it won't make a hole in the metalwork, next, to make holes in nylon straps, either use a soldering iron you don't like. Or heat a bolt to melt a hole, that way it won't fray. Good work as usual, I enjoy watching these.

I have to say I’m enamored with this Valsi generator… The form factor and engine design is like nothing I’ve ever seen before. With the pressurized oil system and truly insane carburetor setup really had me hooked. I’m going to look them up and see if they’re still making it.

Sadly not with the Tecumseh engine. Tecumseh is still around but no longer manufacture engines. They primarily deal with manufacturing a/c and refrigeration compressors.

Thanks for a great video! I’m a subscriber now! I I got this model generator the day before Hurricane Katrina passed over us in Miami on its way to Louisiana in 2005. I was in HD and all their generators were gone but all of a sudden this one was brought back in and I grabbed it immediately. People were buying up generators sight unseen. We lucked out as we only lost power for 3 days as opposed to the 6 months we were without power after hurricane Andrew! I was able to run an extension cord to my neighbors house so they could have a light and fan too. This generator is awesome and like one of your viewers said an “orphan.” You have provide me with so much useful info, thanks again.

Another great technical and patient troubleshooting process teaching some of us new things like testing and replacing the capacitor. Thank you! I love the form factor of that unit, too. Alaoy, pro-grade to replace the gauge. Details matter and it's yet another quality service and repair so that you know it is going to someone who will not have to worry about it. I also appreciate you pointing out that you worked on it over the course of months. Sometimes I get anxious about having too much equipment around getting to them as time, and parts, permit. Keep em coming, James!

Sideways mounted oil filters: a common problem on the diesel boat engines I sometimes work on. I found that I can take a 1 quart plastic milk container, make a few sculptured cuts, and get a reservoir that will fit under the filter and hold all of the spilled oil. Hard to describe in words, but you'll get what I mean. Disregard: I fired too quickly. Didn't realize you had enough room under the filter for the bread pan, which I don't have on the diesels. My sliced milk carton just slides in.

I have a similar brushless generator. The capacitor permanentely was on the low end and a new one did the same. The voltage was permanentely low with some load so I added a small capacitor (10% of the original) in parallel. After that the Sun was shining better and the generator did his job. The capacitor was a litte underrated for that generator.

Just felt the need to give you a progress update on my Valsi repair. Thanks to another one of your videos specifically the powerback generator video my issues were based on the carburetor. I bought a clone and upon more examination the darn thing was running lean. Found an OEM carb that was correct for that engine and now the thing runs like a top. Did have to replace the fuel pump as well. An OEM fuel pump was hard to come by but the Briggs pump I have on it now is doing really well. No surging or hunting. Need to adjust speed and I will have a nice working machine for backup power to my house. Thanks for the awesome and very informative videos that you produce. Love your videos. They are the perfect teachers for anybody. In this generator, I have 2 suggestions. 1: the governor spring has multiple slots on one end to increase/decrease the spring tension. It would be better than bending the tab at the other end. 2 : The battery cables passing through the holes in the battery compartment could be swapped to remove crossing of cables.
@jcondon1
@jcondon1 2 года назад
The spring could be moved, but that will change the sensitivity of the governor. So depending on the direction moved, the governor will become more or less responsive to a load. If too responsive then the governor will cause the engine to surge. Also moving the spring will change the speed and most likely the tab will have to be bent anyway to get it back to where it should be.

A point worth noting about brand new capacitors.... They invariably need time time to "reform". Like a battery, standing idle is not good for capacitors, but unlike batteries, the chemistry (electrolyte) does usually recover in use, unless the capacitor is faulty or dried out/worth out. It's a moot point now, but it would have been good practice to have run the generator on regular occasions and check the output voltage each time. Ultimately, you should notice little or no difference if the capacitor is "brand new and fresh" or if the capacitor is"new old stock" there would be varying degrees of voltage increase depending upon the state and quality of replacement capacitor, and how long it has been in storage.

A quick tip if you on oil filters is this Make sure you run a light bead of oil on rubber seal of new filter. Fill the new filter 1/2 or 3/4 full with oil and let it soak a few seconds, then install. Just helps get everything going and protects engine a little bit more. Great job.

Good points. I did put oil on the new filter seal ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4--Oyf4-U2Y.html. Usually don't put oil in the filters that screw on sideways. Instead I cranked it with the ignition off to prime the system (not shown in the video).

Since most appliances are rated for 110-120 Vac, as long as under full your output is over 110V you're good. You also have to be careful when the voltage gets too high. Some things won't like being over 130V ac.

I don't know if you know but Tecumseh went out of business years ago. I don't know why as they are good engines. The good news is aftermarket parts are still available. I have a 5 Kw Colman generator with a Tecumseh engine that I bought new in 1999. It still starts on the first pull, puts out full power and doesn't use any oil. I used it extensively from 2001 to 2006 for backup power until my 6th spine surgery. I couldn't pull that 10 horse engine anymore so I can't replaced it with a 7 Kw electric start Troy Bilt. I keep the Coleman for backup, backup or a loaner for friends.

What do you want to see exactly??? A load on a generator is just that... A load.

Do the research on the difference on inductive reactance as apposed to a resistive load...a load is not just a load!

@@glennhiggs11 i know the difference ... Thats why a generator has starting watts and running watts... The generator just sees it as a load because thats what it is... A load.

I heard of the name but had never seen a set up like that. Really unique design. Surprised we don't see more like that. I know Tecumseh went out of business I think in the early 2000s...so that genny must be over 20 something years old? I also like that design of the carb.

You suggest that the fuzz underneath the air-cowling was "not too bad"... The EXHAUST VALVE is the hottest part and hence needs the most airflow. I have seen valve-seats come loose from lack of airflow over the valve-area while the rest of the fins were clear of debris.

I agree, anything obstructing an and air cooled engine is bad. Was just expecting alot worse.

My mobility scooter had foam filled tyres. Now they have tubes in them, & that mobility scooter also has a solar charging system for the batteries. It has 75aH batteries.
