Its 2021 and I'm just watching your video. Thanks for the visual. Helped me avoid taking things to a mechanic. I like to make sure that no special tools or skills are required before I take on a diy job. Got it taken care of. Now to fix everything else that my daughter neglected on the car.

I have worked on small engines but I have never worked on cars before. We got my wife a used 2014 Cruze LS 1.8 that had some issues. So far I've flushed transmission/differential, replaced thermostat/water housing, coolant sensor in radiator and next is valve cover. Thank you for teaching me so I can do these repairs and save a LOT of money!

With the clip to the to the coil pack, slide the coloured locking clip back. Then press down on the connector plug where the clip is and it will come out easily. I spent 15 min trying to work out how to remove it. Pushing down gently on the plug released a catch. Good video and very helpful for my first time at this car.

Wow did you have a check engine and traction light on? What was your car doing? And for the new gasket, do you just clean the cover and fit it in? Or is there some type of glue/sealant?

@@gunnarswanchara5270 same, i thought my crruzee was burning oil but i saw oil slowly weeping from the valve gasket down to the the oil filter, no leaking puddles seen while parked though as i mosttly check for leaks

Awesome vid! Exactly what I needed for the old Cruz. Gonna do the valve cover gasket and throw plugs in while I’m at it. It seems I need to recharge the AC as well. Not sure if this is common like the valve cover at this age/mileage of the Cruz? Anyhow. If it goes well I’ll give the car to my daughter as it’s perfect for her running to school and back lol

What's the torque specs for the reverse torx bolts when tightening the valve cover?
@woosangpark4342

Thank you for this very helpful video. I have a question: don't we need to use torque wrench to tighten the hex bolt after replacing the gasket? If yes, what is the torque?
@brandonevans743
@brandonevans743 Год назад
I usually just snug things down using my own judgment. At such low torque specs I’ve broken and stripped numerous bolts using a torque wrench causing more bad than good.

Hello, I have 2009 Dodge Charger 3.5 RWD I've had a problem since the end of 2018 that isn't getting diagnosed, in the morning upon cold start when I drive if I press the accelerator half way the power cuts off and then comes back on again and starts running this happens for the first 5 to 7 minutes of driving then the car becomes normal and is not as bad for the rest of the day running but after leaving it parked for about 4 to 5 hours the problem reappears but not as bad as it's in the morning cold sart. I've even changed the fuel pumps plus throttle body, fuel pump relay but still the problem persists and I've run out of options theres no check engine or any other lights are on I'll appreciate any help about my car's problem I'm almost at the point of selling it off at a loss if this problem don't fixed

I see a small oil leak between the cover and the block, would you recommend replacing the cover as well or just the gasket?
@malcolmalvarez5740
@malcolmalvarez5740 3 года назад
Yes that’s exactly why it’s leaking
@chrisc1245
@chrisc1245 2 года назад
The cover comes with the gasket already seated in it. And it’s a very inexpensive part too
@caribougoo349
@caribougoo349 2 года назад
@@chrisc1245 Yeah you can replace both or you can just do the gasket and then you'll probably have the integrated PCV valve fail on you before it leaks again. $40 vs $140, I'd just rather not have to worry about it the rest of my time with the car

@MrKoalaburger

You will need: -flathead screwdriver. -Reverse Torx wrench size 30 (for valve cover) -Torx wrench size 30 (for the power distributor over the spark plugs) -Socket wrench with extender (to remove the spark plugs)

Switched out gasket 2 weeks ago because I had a minor oil leak and now I have an even bigger leak with the new one. What is the right way to seal it back? I also noticed that all gaskets I seem to find are very thin compared to some I used to get before.

I’m tryna to do the same on my sonic just do the gaskets before I spend to get the whole cover
@countryboy39051
@countryboy39051 2 года назад
It's sold as a kit; the gasket is built into the cover. Also make sure you replace it with Genuine GM parts, as the aftermarket ones use much thinner gasket material! Good luck to you!

I'm having this issue now, I didn't even notice the original leak, the shop did when I got my spark plugs changed, they replaced the valve cover gasket and now oil spewing out the back. I'll likely be going back and questioning them on this as they have a 90 day warranty on their parts and labor but anything I could do myself? Since I'm not so sure I can trust them anymore....

I have a chevy Cruze 2013. I lost power while driving and the error popped up Saying tabilitrak error. I'm aware this is the valve cover I believe. I hear a ticking nose when I lift hood. Do u know what this might be??

Replace the coilpack and spark plugs and you're good to go you might as well replace the valve cover gasket since you're going through that parts.

I changed the coil pack and the 1 spark plug because I noticed spitting oil on the sides of plug. Took no longer then 10 minutes and fixed the issue. When u remove coil pack u will notice black broken plugs just pull them off.
