Amir King I played contra on this. A lot of stuff I took down an octave (below the tubas, even) for depth. I was honking that thing--The conductor loved it! BAHAHA
The Larghetto in this piece is probably one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard -- Sparkling with life, but with a small voice of depression and sadness.
I am playing this now and I am in HS. I am a trumpet and everyone thinks that the 1st trumpets (I play trumpet) always get the best and most important parts. People should really give the 3rd and 2nd trumpets some credit too. We have just as an important role as the rest of the section and band.
I love playing this oboe solo so much. I felt like the upper brass was overpowering at the end though. The bass line is so important to that part and even the woodwinds got buried under the wall of sound from the upper brass.
This is such an awsome song. I always wondered how the woodwinds could do runs like that. I play the trumpet and in this song I finally know. I didn't think my fingers could move that fast. I love this song.
Truly the most challenging piece I've met on bass clarinet thus far. What a fun piece. Mastering the vivace was quite a task, but I think I've finally got it. But this band... it sounds like they're using a contra-bass clarinet. GO BASS CLARINETS!
i'm absolutely in love with the 16th note runs on horn. The rest of the piece is pretty easy. We sight read it a few days ago and are working on it for our spring concert in June. :D
NovaInc. When I played this in my freshman year, the clarinets looked at all the high notes in the beginning and were like "Aw HELL no." We still ended up nailing it XD
oh, in the second movement? yeah its great, once you get the hang of it. so much better than our typical upbeats... i love the allegro con brio movement into the sostenuto and then con islancio. epic chords.
My band played this at clinic a few months ago and miraculously got 1's. I love the sixteenth note runs before the Vivace. They can be irritating to nail at first on flute, but after you get your fingers moving its pretty fun. Good luck to any who want to play this piece. A word of advice Woodwinds, try some chromatic runs or pentatonic scales in warming-up before playing Variations. Also, dynamics are huge in this song so work on air control and breathing deeply from your diaphragm. GL
Sixteenth notes were hard for me on that... But i managed to stay ahead of the flutes by one note... but that changed and my teacher told me to slow a little and the flutes and I were in sync. It was fun... now.. AWESOME!! "Lets do that again!"
The dislikes are from the people who are jealous they can't play that good (Im kidding no hate) This mustve been really hard to play and practice, I give them credit for the effort :D
Horn part is the same way... hold the Bb side and use alternate fingerings like there's no tomorrow. It's a simple piece with enough practice. And raw talent :)
Learned this for 2nd percussion parts it was a little hard getting in the triangle, sus symbol and gong, man this is a fun gong part out of all thats what i got to say
Okay I play the clarinet and I can completely understand where they are coming from. I mean it is super fast and the fingerings are next to impossible. I would like to know what instrument you play. You cannot say that it's because of lack of practice. Sometimes a part for one instrument is really hard while for another it is a lot simpler.
Playing first clarinet on this piece is not hard, it just takes practice to nail the vivace and allegro con brio sections. Just slow those parts down and gradually speed them up, and you'll have it no problem.
Sounds like fun to play but too bad there are no traditional Korean Folk Instruments used in this piece. It would be more convincing if there even a hint of a Korean Folk sound somewhere (even for a moment or two).
