Just yappin' about Varlamore it went a bit long :) 00:00:00 - Atmosphere 00:05:34 - Quests 00:13:32 - Skilling Methods 00:29:25 - Hunter Guild & Rumours 00:54:09 - Moons of Peril (Boss) 1:19:56 - Colosseum
I think what's happening at the end of the Eclipse Moon fight is almost like using Absorptions + Dharoks in NMZ - Your hp is 1, so you can't be hit for more than a 1 The highest hit you can do is equal to its current health, but each hit is reduced by 6 from the armour, so it ends up being 1s. The final hits on the other Moons work the same, except they have negative armour so you end up over-killing them instead. For example: Blue Moon, 4hp left. Your damage rolls, and is capped for all its remaining hp (4), then with -5 armour, your hit ends up being a 9. But on Eclipse Moon in the same situation, your damage roll is capped to 4 , but the armour is 6, so your hit is dropped down to 1. You keep hitting 1s because the current hp is lower than the flat damage reduction the armour grants it (I don't think armour can make your hits turn into 0s, or maybe there's an exception for these damage/hp levels)
IMO the broken meat pouch actually puts on display a really cool way cooking & firemaking could be made into useful pvm skills for main accounts. Higher cooking skill means less burned meat, and they could tie in longer burning logs of new types with higher firemaking. Storing as much meat as it does is kinda busted, but it would be cool to have a smaller version of that even if the original one is patched out.
Keep up this video quality beyond the Varlamore stuff and I think you're going to grow pretty quickly. Your stuff is well paced, clear, and you have a positive attitude/good bit of charisma about it.
Mixed hide boots for me were a nice upgrade over the climbing boots, and the ranged bonus is good. More def, ranged bonus, melee str. I was happy haha.
Naguas and Scurrius arent a worry imo. One is a more chill slayer creature and the other is a boss. Both are good and fill a void TOTALY AGREE on colosseum. Place feels empty. there needs to be a crowd or something. im not sure the thought process of that was. at least have a toggle option. its just not very grand. big place with waves echo boots are BIS in a lot of places. in max str, its same max hit as prims
Concerning Hunter Guild rumours, they could do something with the original animal fur clothes, maybe give us some new fur clothes like antelope, and they increase the chance of the getting the rumour items on certain category of creatures, which gives a reason to carry them around in your Hunterman Kit. Then also add this to the new Hunter outfit when wearing the full set along with giving the bonus xp. While we're on about new outfits, let me self craft the Mixed Hide without having to buy the fabric. Keep the NPC service like Splitbark, but let me get the fabric from rumours or literally any other source?
I was really excited for the Mixed Hide set and thought I'd have to go get a bunch of different hides, and turns out you only need like 3 antelope fur and 40k to buy the mats lol
@@ConnorFlashwing I was really looking forward to grind out like 50 fox, 50 larupia, 100 antelope, to make the full set but yeah it's just so underdeveloped.
I really like your idea of using the DT2 drop mechanics for Hunter Rumours. It makes so much sense (: Great run-down on all the content. Appreciate all your thoughtful commentary!
You make some great points and I hope someone at Jagex watches this video, especially the part about rumors. As someone who didn't get lucky when setting up my block list, there desperately needs to be a better built-in, intended way to skip bad tasks -- or better yet, fix this ancient content so that there *are* no bad tasks. A lot of the ideas behind Hunter are cool, but implemented in a way that simply isn't fun.
Fully agree on the disappointment on Colosseum It really should have been kicked back to 2024 summer, moons of peril got all the dev time here and it shows
Nailed with every word, you should apply to jagex because i dont think they will fix/change enough of this. And its so sad because varlamore has so much potential but some things have to be fundamentaly changed
Love the videos! Really enjoy these long form reviews of new content and so many great ideas in here! Disagree on the prayer from every activity being a bad thing. There is very very little you can do at the moment to "grind" prayer. Mains do other activities to make gp so they can buy bones. Ironmen kill dragons. Prayer is right now by nature a skill that you slowly gain as you do combat so adding it to these other forms of skilling feels amazing and doesn't take away from "grinding" prayer imo
varlamore thieving is just so good but I think there should be different tiers up to like 90 thieving with different nps to pickpocket and different houses or furniture within the houses that offer more valuables and xp
Here's some things I would've liked to see: - make quetzal feed untradeable - equipable hunter kit - moonlight moth mix work on group ironmen mates - move some of the damage of new weapons to the set (eg: the dual maseratis are very strong with regular melee, make it better with the full set and weaker without)
for the Moons, Blue Moon builds up cold passively throughout the fight that causes you to lose an attack at max. Being hit with all 3 attacks will give you 100% cold and cause you to miss. After the tweak, it builds twice as fast passively. Pretty annoying, but she folds easily enough. As for Eclipse, I'm still not sure wtf triggers the blind glancing shit (or even what its even really doing in detail), but I suspect that the low hp 1 damage thing works like NMZ absorbs, where because he has armor and because you cant hit above her current hp, it lowers the damage to 1. Thralls help with this, but it does seem pretty jank. Also, apparently certain multi hit weapons/specs (not the dual macs or ddagger tho it seems) can kill her in the parry phase if the damage would have killed her from above 1 hp. You can also use a tranformation ring (like the Easter ring) to break out of the parry phase if youve brought her down to 1. This wont kill her, but will make you immune for the rest of the phase.
How does the temp re-roll work lol? I thought it glitched on me, my novice guy had some butterfly task, and I talked to him then it was all of a sudden saber tooth Kyatt, I was like wtf woooot! So i talked to him while I had no task..?
At 90 att/str (fire cape, prims, imbued ring, torture) I was testing out the eclipse set and hitting 0s so often that it isn't proccing the passive enough for the spec to do the big chunks. Not sure if it's worth using or maybe it's just better with max stats/gear. Or just a good pking tool. Still pretty fun to use!
My main issue with the perilous moons aka moons of peril aka neypotzli (why so many names q_q) is that there's so much waiting around just like you said inthe video. Lots of downtime and that just doesn't make the fight fun for me. Having to sit through an entire eclipse ball shield phase when the boss is 1 hit away from dying is pure agony (same goes for the blue moon boss, so much just waiting and not doing anything). Add to the fact that I'm at 70 chests with only 1 item haha really has my motivation down for going for the collection log slots... I appreciate the target farming video you put out quite recently, though since I only have 1 item so far it doesn't really benefit me yet. I think the suggestions you made like being able to damage the bosses by dealing damage to the ice blocks or jaguars or ranging from behind the shield would make the fights so much more fun cos it feels like you're always doing something to progress the fight, not just wait through phases where the boss is invincible. I hate those sorts of bosses so much in games. Genshin Impact has so many bosses like that. Now that they updated the eclipse boss to be killable during the shadow phase without having to utilise a multi hit splat weapon instantly improved the fight by a significant amount in my eyes.
Coliseum would’ve been fine with just quiver and “glaive” then put the sunfire armor on some Vorkath/muspah type boss. I don’t see why we can’t have bosses that you just farm for consistent money. Don’t always need crazy uniques. Lots of people still do Vorkath and most aren’t going for a ward. It’s just simple reliable gp. They easily could have delivered something like that and people would’ve been happy. If lack of uniques makes it too undesirable then make it a big ghost that counts for an aberrant spectre task or spiritual creature so you can do it as an optional gp task. Plenty of creative ways to get people to engage with it but consistent 2m is probably enough and not game breaking these days.
the calcified rock waterfalls feel like a downside in their current state. they just make the veins near you randomly deplete. love the method overall and hope they give the waterfalls a small buff and not just a bugfix.
I'm surprised they didn't make the Eyatlalli (the good Nagua) have a smol pet drop from the Moons of Peril and have 3 ultra-rare reskins of said pet, those reskins being one of each of the Moons.
1:09:21 i feel this way too. it drives me crazy bc ive been able to skip cycles on the other two but cant w the eclipse bc u STOP doing dmg when hes low lmao
I think there's something to be said for Varlamore also wanting an extra external method or two to get in. I'd have loved a second fairy ring above Ralos' Rise (farther than the bird from the exposed altar, for balance), and maybe a spirit tree somewhere in the southeastern savannah (since spirit trees just sorta seem to exist to fill out the teleport map more than anything.). Also! For the Eclipse Moon, the wiki says you can do the same thing you can at Sarachnis to get out of the mimic phase early using a ring of stone. Less useful here, but if you don't want to bring a chally to spec or rely on Torag's hammers or dh, it's useful tech.
Not really related to varlamore but gilded altar is still the fastest way to train prayer, even though like you said Chaos Altar is a lot cheaper, there's still upsides to using gilded altar as a main and people do it all the time. I was able to hire bone runners for like 1-2m/hr
I kind of felt like the region was missing new NPCs and drop tables. Not unique things but just different. The giants in the Savannah easily could have been sand giants or something and just have a different table of junk. I was honestly looking forward to more interesting videos of area locked and one chunkers doing ridiculous grinds. Npc diversity is nice especially in slayer like a blue dragon task you can choose between Vorkath, adults, or babies. Or the different types of lizards. Just having a a bit of variety is refreshing. And it may seem useless but during leagues or dmm is when a lot of the depth and world polish really shines through and cool methods emerge.
I've loved Varlamore, but I very much agree that the areas between the major "setpieces" (Civitas illa Fortis, Cam Torum, Hunters Guild) feel really underutilized. Savannah shouldnt be a hustling and bustling place by any means, but there should at least be something to do. As it stands it just feels like it exists to separate the towns. Even something as simple as adding a star spawn somewhere in the Savannah would at least make you feel like there is a reason to go out there and provide some sort of community interaction in that space (at least while the star is present). I have to say my favorite piece of non-combat content in Varlamore is the new thieving system. I hate thieving as a skill, and while the new system is really simple, something about breaking into houses with other players and trying to loot them in a 3 minute dash before hopping out the window felt very satisfying. In reality you're just kind of afking for 3 minutes, but something about the presentation made it feel genuinely cool. I hope they expand on this system, perhaps implementing it in other cities.
regarding deadfall and tracking being terrible; deadfall sucks and definitely needs a rework, but i kinda like tracking and if it was a tiny bit more complex and had competitive XP rates i think it'd be pretty cool. tracking requires you to think at least a little bit and i think that's cool. generally though i really want them to make all furs have a new use. like, the hunter parts that can be carved into bolts are great, and i think hunter in general would feel a lot less shitty if you could turn all the furs into some kind of consumable with actual usage. i think it really sucks when skilling methods give you items that are practically worthless and you'd rather drop them than bank. an idea i've had for a while has been craftable, degradable/consumable weapons and armor, using items like logs. furs would fit into that quite neatly i think.
For moons of peril, You can ignore the ice block stage, the weapon will be returned to you for 20hp loss lol... I also ignore the jagaur, just avoid the blood pools
i feel like the armor stats need to be raised having 0 defense 24/7 with them makes me feel like im made of paper and i dont use the full set for more defenese.
Hunter guild contracts are kind of not great, but the issue lies not with the rewards or the concept, but with regular Hunter being so bad to begin with. People forget that a lot of Hunter is garbage, and being forced to do all aspects of the skill is showing players just how outdated and clunky it is.
the colosseum being just pillar-solve inferno 2 was the greatest disappointment i think in all of OSRS. I was really expecting the waves to be hand designed with a couple of minibosses instead of the same "new mob, then 2 of it, repeat" formula as inferno. it was genuinely shocking that the waves are a copy paste
Varla is tiny, theres 3 or 4 quests, theres just so little there. Kourend was much more game changing and has far more content. If we were to do League region locked again, Varla could not be its own zone, theres just so little there.
You obviously didn't play kourend on release then. Kourend on release had almost exactly as much content as varlamore has, except it was spread out across the entire continent we have right now.
Kourend on release was basically huge inflated empty vastness. Completely oversized for the amount of content that it had. If you took Varlamore and inflated it ~4 times you'd basically get Kourend, but probably it would still have more content than Kourend did.
My thoughts. Perilous moons are amazing. Hunting rumours are pretty solid and the mining is chill. 9.5/10 all around. Havent thieved or done colloseum.
