I have a 2013 plate Insignia 2L diesel Elite, When I bough the car it had 13,000 miles on it, Is now Feb 2024 and has recently clicked over the 255,000 mile mark very reliable car, apart from tyres and brakes, I have had to replace a coil spring, 3 tyre pressure sensors and an alternator belt and perhaps a couple of light bulbs. I have it serviced every year and the cam belt and water pump replaced every 100,000 miles.
My 2014 Opel Insignia 140ps Diesel sports tourer just hit 280k and the only issues I've had was with a worn bearing on the alternator (last month) and the diff going bad last year. But be warned of a small thing that effects both the 1.6 & 2.0 diesels. In the oil sump a small rubber seal which connects the pick up hose to the pump will rot. On startup you get a low oil pressure warning. Shut the engine off, turn the ignition on and off a few times to prime the pump and then start it. This seal must be replaced. It's a 5hr job for a €6 part. I did mine before it went and it was in bits & going to fail. Many an Insignia engine has died because of this. Can't understand why it wasn't a recall issue. Otherwise General maintenance is an absolute must. Use good fully synthetic oil, 5w30 Valvoline Dex 2. Turbo hose can go too but it's cheap to replace.
I own an Insignia Sports Tourer 1.4 turbo (petrol engine) from 2015 it's a great car, it's nice to drive in, and in my opinion it looks great too. I traded it in with 152000 km on the clock. Coming saturday I get an Insignia Grand Sport 1.6 turbo Hatchback(petrol engine) from 2018 with 200 hp, which drives and looks even better than the Sports Tourer in my opinion. 0 - 100 km in 7.7 seconds, which is not bad at all. It now weighs 170 kg less than the Sports Tourer. Both cars have a manual gearbox. I prefer shifting manually.
I bought a used Zafira back in 2008 and I still have it. Great car and no major issues but I tend to service it often. I’ve been contemplating about Opels as they are no worse or better than other cars. Seems the major problem is branding. The perception is that they are dull and boring.
