Do you recommend this Vava or the Optoma P2? Looking at upgrading my current ultra short throw Hd1080gtdarbee. I do love the 150 inch option with Vava but I don't see a bundle for that screen size.
Excellent videos Chris! Thanks for your always detailed reviews. I'm currently using an Epson 696ui that I repaired from a lightning strike, and even though its an LCD UST 1080p classroom projector, It's pretty decent for a home unit that we use it for. But like most Epsons I encounter l, they have iffy black levels, but on the bright side, the color reproduction is amazing
Afternoon Chris! Looking for advise on the option between VAVA Chroma, Xgimi Aura and Optoma P2 & D2. Although I love the Formovie, 3D is a must for me (Which eliminates the Formovie). Which would you recommend between VAVA Chroma & Xgimi Aura?
Now for today. Is it the best option for that price range? It is available for 2300$ while Bomaker Polaris is available for 1600$. Both are tricolor with 2500 ANSI lumen. Although I am not sure I can trust the Bomaker. What do you think?
Great info! I’m curious if it has native 24fps support, or if it *requires* interpolation to be turned on to get rid of bad judder? Also, can you measure input lag with stereo 3D games like Trine and Zen Pinball 2 on PS4?
Hello Chris, since VAVA chroma don't use the color wheel but use the Triple laser light source instead. Could I expect that there are no more "Rainbow effect" ? (I like the sharpness from DLP but I have problem with rainbow effect.)
I'm upgrading from an Epson eh-tw4400 1080p which I LOVED. I used it with a cheap pull down screen. Would the current generation of UST match it for black levels in a darkened room?
Have been waiting for your review on this projector (even though as you mentioned, it is the pre-production version). I appreciated the honest opinion you shared regarding the original Vava - including the caveats / shortcomings (e.g. distance from screen/wall, etc.) - which in turn helped make my decision easier of returning it even though I got it at the lowest price last holiday season. Would appreciate if you could share your opinions on few things regarding this projector: 1. I am very sensitive to rainbow effect (was able to notice the rainbow effect right away while viewing Revenant (initial fight scene as it transitions from dark to bright scenes) while helping a friend setup his Vava / home theater (using your videos as reference) last year. I understand triple laser DLP projectors MIGHT not be as susceptible to rainbow effect but wondering if you noticed any rainbow effect. I am not sure if you might be sensitive to rainbow effect and understand sensitivity varies from person to person (my buddy was not sensitive at all so ended up keeping the original Vava and enjoys it whereas I get a headache every time I go over to his house for football games or movie night or even just being in the same room while his kids play games on it). Would appreciate any input regarding rainbow effect on the Chroma. 2. How does the Vava compare (picture quality wise) to the BenQ v7050i which also uses same technology and which you reviewed recently. 3. I have an older Epson (2010?) 1080p 3D projector and have had not problems with it. Love the image and no rainbow effect. How does the Chroma compare to the LS500 as well as the Epson 5050UB as far as picture quality goes? I understand DLP projectors can produce "richer" colors compared to 3LCD but rainbow effect would drive me nuts as already mentioned. Also, although I would prefer an ultra short throw projector, I already have my basement wired in the ceiling for ceiling mount projector as well so could go either way (e.g. 5050UB or even my old Epson if its worth holding off for couple years for UST projectors to mature). 4. One other thing I appreciated (and helped me decide to return the original) from your old video was finding out how far the original Vava had to placed from the wall. How far does the Chroma need to be placed from the wall? Anyway, would appreciate any input especially if there might be any show stoppers (e.g. rainbow effect, too far - back of unit more than a foot - away from wall, etc.) if it might helps me decide instead of regretting my decision if I decide to get the Chroma. Am I being too optimistic regarding the Chroma with the issues I mentioned that I tend to suffer from with DLP? Thanks much!
hello sir ive been watching your vids for the pas 2 days now. im in collage and i dont want to get a tv again..i want a good 4K projector but in a mid range budget beetween 1.5K - 1.8K $ i cant go to 5K$.. any suggestions on what to buy?
Hello thank you for this review; Would you recommend the Samsung lsp7t or this one prior its release price increase.? I currently have the Samsung but no 3D I don’t know if I will win in image quality with the 3 lasers thank you
What's the logic behind Vava sending out for review, a pre-production unit? Given how the company has been around for some time, sending out a post-production unit would be more informative, and any changes can be made through software upgrades. If I am a restaurant reviewer, for example, and the chef sends me a steak to sample, then tells me that they are going to be making changes before they start permanently serving steaks, really doesn't help me in my review, because I can only review what is, and not what's to be.
Thanks for the Review. I was considering the Hisense 9 and the Vava Chroma. I got the Chroma and a 120 inch screen for $2800. This is $3100 less than the Hisense. What do you think
You got the projector shown in this video w/ a screen for 2800? I'd LIKE to say that's a deal but if I'm being honest, I believe that should be the normal price. It's msrp is probably high due to the current inflation, chip shortage and production setbacks from the pandemic. How did you get it for 2800 though?
me 2, got it for $2800, no any f*n company or deals or blk Fridays can come close to it this year or NEXT year ,hands down to VAVA, even the first VAVA still kicking ass in pic quality , plus for $3500 is now worth every penny compare to others rip offs , ..BUT another hand if wanna pay $5 or &6000 for maybe one or 2 feathers more go right ahead , no one stopping U lol 👍
Brother I also planning to setup Theater hall in basement could you help me to find right type of alr electric pull down screen. I prefer 150” for Vava Croma.. thanks.
I'm confused why they use the term "native" for 4K resolution when it's pixel shifting. Shouldn't it be native 1080p with 4k pixel shifting tech? Less deceiving, I guess?
Ok here is the deal. People are interchanging them for some reason. "True" 4k mean that they use pixel shifting tech to get to a 4k image so they manufactures say it's a true 4k image. Its not it is phony 4k using tricks to get to that image. NATIVE 4k means that they have a 4k native chip and do not pixel shift. All you really have to know is 99% of the projectors on the market are using pixel shifting including every UST projector. The only models that are really "Native" 4k are the Sony 397 and its successor models and the JVC NX7 and its successor models. They both use native 4k chips and are around $9,500 range. SOME reviewers are trying for some reason to say some of these projectors present a "Native" image when they don't. It may be close but none are native. People are interchanging Native and True and its is miss information IMO on some of these projectors that people are reviewing. Not saying he does it but others do.
@@scotttild yeah. I was thinking the same thing. The term “Native” should only be used when referring to projectors that actually meet the criteria of having the native chip in them. Got no issues with pixel shifting. It produces great images and I also enjoy 1080 being upscale to 4K. It’s the disingenuous nature of these reviewers I don’t like. It’s not necessary, I feel.
Android TV question. The ones that come with the android stick for example benQHT 3550i. Can I swap that android stick for a Roku stick instead in the same hdmi port? If I want the projector to boot up to a Roku screen? That’s what I have on all of my TVs and what I’m most comfortable with.
Another meh chroma review without side-by-side comparison with other competitors that is the only thing I wanted to see so long :/ Input lag check was nice though.
There is no need for any comparison. The image quality looks shit as compared to others. The colors are wacky. I can imagine that to be fixed with a software update but atleast with what we saw, I would not buy this unit.
@@Bestfriend-650 He didn't even use same pictures/videos of all reviews. And daylight brightness is totally different in this review and especially L9G review. See the window white level of ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JyW7vkxMKVg.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a4MhUcKgqPA.html. I understand it's hard to make exactly same condition. That's why side-by-side is important or at least he should've used the same picture in completely dark room in ALL review. I agree HDR color is terrible, but overall it's just not a professional review I was looking for.
And he is avoiding alot if key features that is important in a review so kind feel like he and other reviewers might be bought, for deliberately not talking about certain features.....gonna cancel mine now aswell.
U GUYS HAVE TO understand as VAVA told him & he says this is Pre-production unit ..so is NOTHING in this unit is FINAL project yet, in colors an all ...u can see that in the OLDER VAVA still kicking ass in pic quality between others, so is NOT A FINAL project ...but another hand u guys welcome to pay $5000 -$6000 for Samsung & Hisense those rip offs projectors is out there anytime, basically u paying that much for name brand not for the unit
I'm seeing a lot of confirmation bias related to this projector. People want it to be the best because of the current low crowdfunding price. I understand that these projectors are expensive so you want to make sure you're getting a good product but you have to be reasonable. I'm one of the first reviewers to show limitations of the Chroma since everyone is scared to be honest. I want Vava to improve the Chroma for it to compete with the more expensive units with similar hardware. If I say it's amazing and has no issues then Vava has no incentive to improve it and I come off as disingenuous. Let me address some of your concerns: 1. I didn't do a side by side comparison because the other tri-laser projectors are brighter with better color. There are probably a dozen UST projectors out there. You expect me to show how it looks next to all of them? That being said, you can expect more comparisons in my yearly "Best Projector" video which comes out near the end of the year. 2. The lighting in the room is actually similar to the L9G review but The Chroma is simply not as bright. Im not going to make it look better than it looks in real life. This is simply a limitation of Lumen output. 3. If you're looking for an in-depth review with a bunch of tools and measurements this isn't something I do on my channel. I like to keep my reviews simple, clear, fair, unbiased, and concise. 4. It's hard to bash a product that's in preproduction since it's not a finished product. If it hit the retail stores in its current state this review would have been far harsher. This is why I said I would be interested in reviewing the completed product at the end of the video.
Hi Chris, sorry to bother you. Could you please confirm/explain if the source video is HDR but we turn off HDR setting in the Chroma menu is the video still played as HDR and we can apply custom settings to it like brightness, color, contrast… or is that video played as SDR? Sorry for my amateur knowledge.
2500 would be amazing if this projector could make a 40inch screen. sadly the smallest it can go is 80inches meaning you'd want about 7000lumens to get something nearly HDR1000 spec. if VAVA can hit 120Hz I think TV makers would be in full panic mode.
Thank you for the great review. Do you have an advice for a normal (not ust) beamer with better specs but equal price? I backed the chroma already, but I‘m not sure after your review.
I just bought LG HU 810 laser projector and after watching this review I am glad i made that decision. In my opinion that is the best laser unit for the money. Image quality of LG seems day and night difference than this vava.
@@Bestfriend-650 Of course if u have extra $2500 to throw around , would BUY those rip offs LG/SAMSUNG OR Hienses for $6000, no one stopping anyone ..basically u paying for name NOT the projector, first VAVA still kicking a** between the other projectors in feathers & pic quality in lower price & this is NOT a final project yet... & I'm sure this CHROMA gonna do the same this time around in lower price, U cant get this projector quality & this BEST OF THE YEAR promotion again even in next year deals from any one or any companies Guaranteed & is almost ending!
@@ChrisMajestic Thanks for the great review 👍. Do you think with improvements the VAVA CHROMA could be ad good as the L9G? Would you recommend canceling the VAVA chroma and buy the Hisense
Chris, thank you very much for the review, really very helpful. One question I have is does the image quality for 150 inch screen is good? because no other UST 4K projector can support this size?
@@bman5600 Thank you very much for your help. I have limited distance in my living room, therefore regular projectors do not work for me. I am looking for ultra short throw projectors.
THERE is really NO Pure 150" ALR in market yet , Biggest is 123" , if there is would around $4000, to expensive to buy, would be the same price of projector, so would be not much customer for it ...they made screen similar to ALR for 150" size , but is not that good materiel/ambient in daytime viewing ...BUT still good having this CHROMA goes up to 150" size without paying $6000 for it like other one . to me don't go all up in screen maxed up as they says , because u really don't get that full vivid colors, sharp pic & brightness with budget price short throw projectors ..so always stay under 135" screen!
@@SFBenjaminK Thank you very much for your reply. I really appreciated. I painted my wall with ALR paint instead of using a ALR. Since my living room is in the dark side, also I do not watch anything during the day, only movies at night. I did read a lot about Vava Chroma but not sure about the image quality, also the throw distance a bit too far when I compare to Samsung or LGs UST projectors.
Great review since I don't work I watch 10 hrs a day my only concern is with most 4k laser tv only 25k and 30k hours so my only question is how much in average to replace the parts you need to use it again thanks hope to here from you soon
Hi Chris, greatly appreciate your review as I think your reviews are truely presenting the quality of a product, so thank you for that. In your opinion if the Vava team fix those bugs around HDR and color would you say that it wouldn’t be far away from hisense l9g, lg hu85la or even benq v7? Maybe a better question would be, does Vava hardware have a potential to be on pair with other usts mentioned above, are those issues only due software?
You said it can go to 150 inch. Any chance getting a brief 2 minutes review update video of a much bigger image? I think I can fit around the 140 range. Thanks for the video no matter what
this one goes all the way to 150" screen , only 16/9 ratio ALR screen , AS screen made for short throw Projectors such as is NOT made for that size yet , the biggest ALR SCREEN is 123 " screen. Other material screen u don't get that quality pic from these kinda projectors!
the way i thinking base on ur question , I paid $2800 with 120" screen or now is $3500 >>Chroma VS. $6000 Hisense L9G for only couple of feathers different LOL
Thanks! For a basement with no natural light but controlled artificial light, do you suggest this at crowdfunding price which includes screen? Specially for everyday viewing as tv replacement.
I would suggest the Epson 5050 since you have a light controller room. You can find that for 2500 at times. My buddy has one and I was very impressed with the performance. Plenty bright and better blacks than an ultra short throw.
I’m not sure if you reply to comments but could you or someone please tell me if 2000 lumens is more than enough for brightness ina. Dark theater like room. BenQ HT3550 for example. I’m having trouble finding this answer for lumens needed in a dark room.
Interesting. I don't see how they are on another level and worth 2x the price? They have HDMI 2.1/eARC.. that's about it. What makes that worth 2x the price? Especially with like 99% of content not making use of those? eARC maybe is useful for some.. but most people will typically have streaming device.. though I will say I think more and more are starting to get used to TV having everything in it these days. So maybe its shifting a bit.
pic is the same only differents couple of feathers >> is 4k/120mhz & HDMI 2.1, as that most goes for gaming as he says gaming is REALLY GOOD & FAST on this...BUT another hand if u have around $3000 to throw around for those couple of none sense feathers & buy that overpriced rip offs $5000- $6000 L9G or Samsung no one stopping u , good luck 👍
From someone who has been mostly out of the loop on projector technology for the past several years, your reviews have been incredibly helpful. I'm curious as to where this projector ranks compared to the Hisense model. Other than refresh rate, are these fairly comparable?
I doged a bullet on this projector people are pissed with the chroma quality is crap out of the box you have to mess with the setting to get a half decent picture and after care is crap. I was one of the lucky ones to get my money back through charge back. The fought tooth and nail to keep my money and give me a shoddy product. Even if it goes down in price DO NOT get the vava chroma.
Sorry one more question. On a scale 1-10 when you tweak Vava chroma picture settings how much would you give Vava vs Hisense L9g? I mean I wouldn’t mind manually tweaking the picture settings as long as the outcome is great.
There are certain things you can't change like brightness. The L9G is much brighter and has a much better menu system and OS. The vava looks okay after bring tweaked but it's still not great. They have some work to do with the colors and tone mapping.
@@ChrisMajestic thanks, mate. Im a backer and a bit concerned that Im supporting something that will not be easy to correct, like that colors snd tone mapping. I get that its a preproduction unit but they should have done better job with a prototype and then go crowd funding.
Hmmm it’s ok but for the price I’d rather get the hu85la. I’m got the Vava 4K black which was a great buy for the quality and price. This doesn’t seem worth the extra $$$
The reason the VAVA was a good choice was because of the quality at such a low price. Undercut the competition. Now that they’re asking for almost double last years model is hosh posh. They’ve lost my interest and business.
I wouldn’t touch this thing with a ten foot pole. I doubt warranty is worth a crap with this company. Also the reason why it is so expensive compared to the last crap projector, is because it has 3 lasers this time, which is now considered the premium tech for UST projectors in terms of color. Still, I would never support these companies that have to crowd fund on Indiegogo, especially since they already did it once.
U got that right J C my friend got the first VAVA & still loving it comes to pic quality still kicking a** compare tp other projectors for the only $2500 he paid on launch day & I bought this CHROMA BECAUSE OF THAT quality & I KNOW GONNA DO the same this time around , i bought it on launch day for $2800 with 120" screen included , even for $3500 right now, no one or any companies can come close to that in land slide even or in next year deals, hands DOWN to VAVA , is a damn BEST OF the year promotion never heard of .. compare to f*n $5000-$6000 Samsung or that Heniese rip off brands, basically u paying that much for BRAND not the projector
I was really tempted by this but I have a hard time opting for anything without HDMI 2.1. I get that most things don't really need it but if I'm dropping this much cash i want it to be relatively future proof
THIS one dose a great job as he says for games ...BUT if u have XTERA $2500 to throw around for HDMI 2.1 & get that $5000-$6000 Samsung & hinese rip offs no one stopping u
about one year in i got lots of dead pixels. 4 now. many others are saying the same. i know they use a common dmd chip from texas instruments but perhaps it has a bad cooling design. i also had projectors that were not ust that had temp sensors that shut it self down to protect itself. i'm kinda disappointed. many other chroma owners have said the same
@@ChrisMajestic Is the VAVA outperforming anyone in the middle of the pack? I know the L9G is your current favourite, but you recently reviewed the BenQ as being pretty good too.
@@adamforristal156 well i bought VAVA CHROMA on launch day for $2800/120" screen included , U cant f*n beat that , LOVIN IT ...BUT same time my friend bought a projector dont know about call JMGO U2 he bought it on launch day for $1800, now is $2100 on promotion , still f*n good , of course got less feathers, BUT comes to pic got a Stunting pic quality for the price he paid only $1800, just WOW liked it alot
@tobi9 yeah my Samsung LSP9T just arrived yesterday... It was the black levels that made me pass on the Hisense too... Such a shame because I really wanted to know I was future-proofed with those HDMI 2.1 ports!! But I also didn't want to be locked into a fixed-focus either in case I ever move or want to upgrade the screen size in the future.
Unacceptable to not have eARC at this point on a flagship model. Practically every new release on hbo max streams with dolby atmos now. This isn't tech that's 5 years from now it's being used right now. I guess you can say "hey it's just a projector" but it's not. This is supposed to be a living room tv replacement these companies gotta remember that. If you have enough room for a 120 inch screen in your living room you def have enough room for a dolby atmos setup. And why do none of these have an option to use their built in speakers as your center channel... just make a switch that disconnects the speakers from the built in amp and put two banana cord plugs on the back. So frustrating when companies are stupid. With all that said this is probably the best option at the moment and ARC still supports 5.1. Heading in the right direction. They just gotta have the next one come out with all these features that this is missing, and please god don't get rid of the 3D.
That's pretty standard for projectors these days, Active with DLP Link or RF/BT (3D VESA port, not so common). Passive requires dual projectors or other more expensive solutions to make it work similar to a cinema that aren't really conducive to UST's or ALR screens. It will be interesting to see an in-depth review of 3D performance of the VAVA Chroma vs the JMGO U2 vs other projectors like the Optoma Cinemax P2/Pro.
@@pcummins oh yeah, that makes sense. I am a total 3D movie guy, and I am constantly looking for a movie theater Quality projector that can do 3D in 4K
Thanks. Untested no name brand more expensive than EPSON LS500 with better features... or even Samsung and Hisense. Not clear who Vava is targeting....
