Vegeta always had this animosity towards goku, and it constantly stemmed from goku always being one step ahead of vegeta when it came to shattering personal limits. No matter how much power vegeta gained....goku always somehow ended up becoming more powerful....and his animosity arguably got worse in the cell saga because not only did goku outclass him....but gohan outclassed him...who was only like 10-11 years old at time....imagine knowing a child could beat the brakes off of you at any moment lmao.

Imagine growing up you're entire life knowing youre one of the most powerful warriors, as well as royalty, suddenly your entire race is wiped out by someone rules over you and keeps you under their heel for the majority of your life. You grow stronger and more fearsome becoming so sure youre invincible because youre the last of your kind when suddenly a survivor of your race who is considered lower than you gives you a humiliating defeat. After this same person becomes so much stronger than you that they take down the very tyrant who made you a slave that you dreamed of taking down yourself. Years later you work your ass off and believe youve made so much progress only for him for once again pass you up. Thats what Vegeta has been feeling so years.

Vegeta is a man who lost himself when goku came into his life. He already knew of frieza being pretty much unsurmountable at the rate he, vegeta, was gaining power but he never gave up. Goku is the one that caused him to have real doubt in himself. He couldnt let this one go because goku far surpassed him at this point in their lives when vegeta was supposed to have the lightest potential of all saiyans and goku the lowest. This episode was great episode. Christopher Sabat killed as Vegeta with his speech. But it not surprising that Vegeta did what he did. His whole purpose was to enter the tournament and defeat Goku nothing else matters. If you paid close attention you can see that Vegeta was getting frustrated and deseparate that with Goku only appearing on earth for a day. He will never get a chance to fight him. So he allowed himself to be control kill lots of people was enough to force Goku hand and give him no choice but to accept Vegeta challenge. You can say Goku is somewhat excited because things are different since their last fight during the Sayian Saga in which they were just regular black hair Saiyans but now they're both Super Saiyans.
