His relationship with Gohan is interesting. He originally hated him simply because he was weak, but even then he respected his willingness to fight dispire his weakness (Namek saga), then he respected him but still partially hated him when he went SSJ2 due to him surpassing him, by the end if the cell games he flat out respected him, then he was disappointed in him for letting himself get weaker (early Buu saga), then when Gohan became mystic he respected him outright for his strength and willingness to give it his all, and in the end he just respected him as he had shown his willingness to fight and put it all on the line even if life goals were elsewere, that he would die to protect what he loved and that was enough for Vegeta. He also truly respected Gohans intellect and his ability to analyse a situation and just know how to deal with it, Gohan has basically the perfect fighters mind in that regard. Vegeta is all about pride, and he realised Gohan has pride, he just has it in different things than Vegeta, and that's ok with him. He doesn't care what you believe, he just cares that your willing to go all out for it, as that is his version of saiyan pride.

Goku was content letting him be a scholar at first, but then Raditz came and kidnapped Gohan, then Piccolo kidnapped Gohan and made him survive for nearly a year, then obviously the Saiyan invasion, where he felt obligated to travel to Namek to fix this. then we got the Androids part where he could chill and study, but if he did he would feel like it's partially his fault for not training as hard as he could to counter the oncoming threat. then with Cell again he didn't have much of a choice, he also wanted to spend time with Goku, who was either dead or training to combat the next big threat. Super Saiyan 2 was basically Gohan just snapping and releasing his holds, he finally let go of his soft nature and went hard. You can still see this in Super, where sure, he can't go ultimate during the Resurection of F arc since he was so out of shape, hell, even Super Saiyan drained him. (which previously it couldn't) even when Piccolo trained him again, he let go shortly afterwards again, the only time we can see where Gohan actually mixes his scholar life and his martial arts life is during dragonball super heroes, where he actually has a more Saiyan style hairstyle and wears his clothing style from the Cell games.

Because future gohan wasn't. He was never the warrior. He got jealous of his present timeline self in xenoverse because that was the life he wanted and with high expectations placed on him. Future gohan got dealt a shit hand. I can't even blame him for snapping even if he's a edgy prick in heroes for turning against them.

Vegeta always said, even in Super, that Gohan has the most latent potential! I think somehow he even considers Gohan more "pure blood" than Goten and Trunks, even tho he's not, because of his lifetime... I mean Gohan fought since he was 4 YO against powerful enemies, from Saiyans themselves to Frieza's Army, Frieza and Androids! I'm 100% convinced that Vegeta hated this version of Gohan for his cowardy, also because he knows that the real Mirai Gohan was a TRUE fighter, literally died without surrendering!
