the face expressions show.....how deep the melody touches the player.....the result then is shown on the strings of the violin.......

It's so sad people today tend to pose as experts on matters they know nothing about and think, that making it SOUND like an expert will make it smart ;] On the other hand, it's comforting, that there are people, who can hear the real magic of music in performances of such talents as Vengerov.. Cheers to all Vengerov lovers ;) Oh, and the Abbado conducts this piece masterfully ^^

i agree with you that they are treasures. and i strongly believe that the Golden age of Violin Playing has come and Gone. And thats The true Greats that came before the vengerovs and repins and the hahns and the bells etc can never be duplicated. perhaps one day in the future we will have another Golden age. And i agree, bocelli and mae are not like the greats in any way, but they do cater to a wide audience.

yes, Ferras Sibelius is something else, the tears he shed during the 2nd movement. its moments like that which are not easily forgotten. i understand where you are coming from now. im sorry if some of my comments have been aggressive. but while some stars shine brighter than others, each star in itself is individual and unique, that is all i would like to stress :D

Amazing capability. Absolutely the best player in the modern era. I wish I could listen to his Tzigane live. His tones are extremely powerful but still pure and ringing..... I don't know why people are concerned about his movements...God damn it! the stronger notes generated from his violin is done via using bow-arms own weight and the big muscles while playing "free-er". If he doesn't move how can he achieve this kind of power?

I keep trying to imagine what it must have been like to attend that concert - I don't think I've ever been so jealous of an audience in my life! If I become an emotional wreck just listening to a low definition recording of it, god knows what state I'd be in if I was listening to it live.

This is a truly unique, sincere, wonderful interpretation. Purists will say that he does too much, moves too much, or maybe that he plays Vengerov instead of playing Tzigane by Ravel. But I say that he plays pure music, with pure and total implication. In my opinion, this man understands the very essence of the word "interpretation". Thanks for uploading!

Vengerov gives Tzigane a smoother, more stable feel, in contrast to Heifitz, Bell, Goto, etc. Personally, I like how he plays it way more than anyone else.

Well I'm not a big fan of Zigeunerweisen, and I haven't heard all the recordings there are out there (although I have heard many). I'd say in terms of pure gypsy-like authenticity Elman's is my favorite, though I also really like Heifetz's romantic approach. I'd have to listen to all the recordings out there to truly decide.
@tobiasundry

I don't know if I agree with you. There are still great violinists with original interpretations, it's just that you have to look harder to find them. Augustin Hadelich, for example.

and another thing. you know Hilary Hahn said a great thing. people go to a concerto to see people perform and do well. if they don, if they go to see there person fail. they should not be there. it makes sense no?
@TheEternaut
@TheEternaut 15 лет назад
a very good version. However, I have never heard a better one than Heifetz's. I assume Vengerov could play this piece as fast as Heifetz if he wanted to. But Heifetz gave the music a special "sound" , not just speed.
@BernsteinYuvalAlexander

@gnatural
@gnatural 15 лет назад
I have a problem with people comparing violinist on a musical level because they don't "like" their interpretation of the music. that in itself is flawed BECAUSE there is no such thing as "THE BEST WAY" or even "THE ONLY WAY" to play a particular piece of music, so therefore there is no such thing as "THE BEST" violinist. you can have your taste an opinion, but please, stop comparing them musically and saying "this one is better then that". you would never hear that from perlmans mouth.
@AGT1729
@AGT1729 12 лет назад
not forget the video quality
@gnatural
@gnatural 15 лет назад
actually i am a professional. the only reason why i posted that comment is because you cannot compare violinist on that level of playing. sure you can have your own opinion, but when you are at the level of the greats like Szeryng , vengerov, kogan, perlman etc, it does not become a matter of who is "better" thats just not possible because there is not one way to play the violin. better to say that it is a matter of taste. Vengerov is a great player and a hard worker! he should get more credit.

@yamsters 1/15th? Are you kidding? I'd put relative average talent at around 1/1,000,000. And he definitely does have his own interpretation; I think he really captures the insane, almost schizophrenic gypsy-style feel of the piece.
@glossyfarmboy
@glossyfarmboy 15 лет назад
Bizarre notion. Gypsy music suffuses European music, unthinkable without Sinto and Roma influence. Listen to gypsy music from Romanian folklore, spanish Flamenco to jazz. You find unbelievable renditions, not in an orchestral environment, but put across the cultural magnitude of this beautiful, persecuted people. That's like saying early blues recordings just don't sound so great. It's about feeling the intent and the emotions of a culture. Is anything more descriptive of human emotions.

@sesshomarushot
@sesshomarushot 15 лет назад
I can understand the exessive movement being a little distracting, but if it bothers you that much, you should just not watch and just listen. There's no reason to think him any less of a musician because of how he looks in a performance. Musical ability is all that should matter when it comes to criticism like this.
@OrlandoAponte
@OrlandoAponte 16 лет назад
(continued) was supposed to be strictly classical? Yes, it is a fusion between classical music and gypsy music, however, the heart of the music in this piece lies in its gypsy-like quality. A highly classical interpretation of this piece would be lifeless. Next time, before you go throwing insults around, think about what you're saying, so you don't make a fool of yourself.

Perhaps you need better speakers for your computer? (I don't say this to be derogatory, but just as a possibility.) It sounds great to me and I have an old set of Altec Lansing with subwoofer speakers. I guess subwoofer is the word, I'm not into the technology of sound.
