after Sarah shot her buck in Maryland, we've had several awesome meals!!! I think my favorite so far has been the Braised shoulder off the Grill and into the oven!!! I covered it with herb filled stock and fresh baby carrots, sliced baby bella mushrooms and baby yukon gold potatoes! this was so good and so tender I can't even explain it!!!!

I clicked on this video to get a good recipe, which in fact I did...what I didn't expect was to be brought into someone's home and to be treated like a friend....you two are a beautiful couple who obviously have God at the center of your relationship...It's quite a bit out of character for me to make a comment on a video, but I just felt compelled to let you guys know that you made someone smile today and that is a gift.... My wife and I and our four children live in Charlotte, NC; thanks for broadcasting your version of "Southern Hospitality" from the "Frozen Tundra"....wishing you the best in this new year! God bless!

after listening to his rave reviews of everglades seasoning, I checked it out on my last trip to the supermarket, being from Washington state, I doubted they carried it, but they did, I also expected it's main ingredient to be MSG, again, I was pleasently surprised!

I smoked my deer shoulder for two hours at 225 with cherry wood then put it in the crockpot for another couple hours with gold potatoes, carrots and onions. I fried smoked bacon from my butcher and added it to the bottom of the pot. I boiled red wine, broth, sage, thyme, and rosemary and added it to the crockpot as well. Man, it was amazing!! Thank you for the recipe!! - God Bless

Love your channel! Been watching your videos for few years now and appreciate your kindness to others, your respect for God, country, and the animals you take. I came back to this venison shoulder video to comment because it was the one that has changed out family Thanksgiving dinners for the past 4 years. We still have turkey...but we have now added venison shoulder as Thanksgiving usually falls at or near the end of Kentucky's modern firearm deer season. This year so far my son and I have taken 5 deer and all of the shoulders are either smoked then wrapped and slow cooked in the oven or prepared similar to the method in this video. No more cutting and grinding shoulders, this method wastes nothing and even family members that have said they didn't like venison can't get enough of it. I really love the way that you take the time to explain what you are doing as well as involving those that are important to you in the process. Most of all for the way that you give Thanks to God for his many blessings!!! May God bless you abundantly as you keep on blessing others!

I don’t comment on videos, but this is worth my 2¢. My late husband was the hunter. His last hunting season was 2018, and I just found two packages of venison, both vacuum sealed. One is back strap. Easy to figure out how I’m fixing that! The shoulder, though…it’s summer in Texas. Burn ban in effect-114° this week-drought-no outside grilling, which is what would happen to a shoulder. The only change I made to your recipe was the grill step. Instead of that, I put it on the flat-top on my stove and charred both sides. I cooked it for 3 hours (2 with no veggies) on 300° in the oven. It is fall-apart tender, and so good! I’ll be having some for dinner, then packaging it in individual vac seal meal packs as soon as it’s cool. Thanks so much for the recipe and the prayer over your blessings-happy hunting!

My husband usually makes it sausages but making it by boiling the shoulder first with onions , cinnamon sticks, salt and 7 spices mix till fall of the bone tender than using the same water cooking basmati rice and adding the flaked deer meat is awesome. Add some toasted cashews and yellow raisins on top of the rice and deer just makes it amazing!!!! My husband said watching you cook your food was making him drool and hungry as hell! Great channel :)

That is how I do my shoulders, as I process the deer myself to save a few bucks. I seen another video about roasting the shoulder, so I don't grind them any longer. The ligaments really break down and add so much flavor. Processed 3 does and a hog in January and didn't even break out the grinder. Now I know to make the sausage before freezing meat...doh! I still can make sausage, but only enough to refrigerate (refreezing meat could not be good). You have brought up many good things that I wasn't doing, grilling, or brazing it first, fresh seasoning, and beef broth. Thanks for sharing. I have one shoulder left, as I cook them fast, to make room in my freezers (they take up more room than other cuts). Again, I surely love those prayers before dinner. You guys rock!

Great job, I have been using a similar recipe for 30 yrs . I poke several holes in the meat and stuff the holes with garlic slivers bacon and green olives with pimentos, then rub meat with light coat of olive oil, salt and pepper well, then dust with flour and bake at 450 for 45 mins to brown. Then use red dry wine and beef broth for the gravy cook at 300 deg for 3 hrs then cover with chunks of garlic , red bell peppers, onions, baby carrots and whole button mushrooms and cook for 1 more hour. people bring there shoulders to me for me to cook for them, they love it and we get a great meal out of it yum yum. I also agree that the shoulder is under estimated, it makes the best roast on the bone and also the best cuts for grind. Again great job and happy hunting..

I was planning on suggesting slicing garlic cloves up and sliding them into knife slits before cooking started, as I do with pork shoulder. The pork cooks at 270/300 for almost five hours but after just three, your venison was in shreds - no way could the garlic slices work. Perfect job, guys!

Hey guys. When I was a kid in the late 60's early 70's, my Grandma Ruth made a roast every holiday just about like that. {Of course no one new it was a deer shoulder except for my uncle Bill} He supplied her with Venison from southern Alabama where he later taught me how to hunt. We all thought it was beef. I'm so glad that you and Sara did this video because it brings back so many memories for me and I get to share that with my daughter. I actually am guilty of giving away those or grinding them. But, I do have 2 left in my freezer and you can bet that I will be cooking one around the 4th of July! Thanks for all you do and God Bless! Your Friend, 10.

Hi deermeatfordinner, That looks delicious. "Yum-Yum-Yum" I'm ready to eat after watching you cook the shoulder. Man it’s just falling off the bone. Could you make some rice using the liquid? If there was a way to make some gravy using the liquid! Not sure how though. Make a plate with a little meat, carrots, and potatoes, covered with rice. Cover all with gravy. Just an idea!!
@ddoyle11
@ddoyle11 8 лет назад
You could make a wonderful sauce with the liquid from that pot. After you remove all the meat and vegetables, strain it and then reduce it by two thirds. It would be delicious! If you wanted a gravy, just add some flour/water mixture until it's as thick as you want it.

The neck is even more under rated. Debone it unroll it and stuff it with what ever you like roll it back up and roast it. TO DIE FOR

One of the coolest, nicest, most honest content on youtube ever. I have lived in a tiny two bedroom apartment in an Indian city with twice the population of New York my entire life (well I moved to the US 3 years ago for my Doctorate degree on scholarship). I have always been an indoor person who loves to read, teach and research about things. My mother used to be a teacher and my father a wildlife conservationist and adventurer. Mostly, We are perhaps the most downtown-ish city folks one can ever meet. No one in my family has or will ever hunt. It's mostly illegal in India because most animals are seriously endangered and common people don't own guns and weapons but your content gives me pure happiness and peace. Your demeanor, the humility and care with which you see nature and these animals, the care with which you hunt or cook - it's honestly one of the greatest joys I have found on the internet. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

You're right about the shoulder being avoided. I never know what to do with it (that's good). I haven't even butchered my last shoulder yet because of that, but now I'm glad I didn't. Can't wait to try this!

Im from Colorado and am really intrested in hunting and supplying for my family without the need to purchase processed meat from who knows where. None of my family hunts so these vids really inspire me to get some training and start doing this with my father and brother.
