For all that are venting their hate on venom, i feel sorry for you all. Venom get up on stage for their fans not haters.. Welcome to hell, Black Metal, At War With Satan... That's the stuff that got the whole movement going.. Also i don't get the commenting on Cronos's looks ( we don't have to kiss him ). I still play their music and love it.. "Venom" , Possessed , Slayer , Kreator . Sodom .. That's the Shit :)
when Venom and similar bands came out in the early 80s - their music was fucking nuts! no one was making this sound - it may lack the kick of modern bands but back then, jeez - this music really was black. easy to kick em now but they were fore-runners to a lot of todays metal. glad I was a young buck back in the day to appreciate this band today. maybe you just had to be there?
You know, maybe guys like Metallica and Anthrax, nowadays, kind of lack that kick, but I don't think Venom falls in that camp. I think that's why they were so misunderstood in their time and nowadays are considered one of the world's most influential metal bands. They were just a decade or so heavier than their time with something like this. But man, even if this was released today as a new release, maybe the production values would be higher, but it would still be some of the fastest and baddest stuff on the planet.
Veian Demontrond Dude, check out Dimmu Borgir's or Vader's cover of this tune. The advancements in audio quality while giving their own flair mixed with the essence of the song blend well together.
I was just a young punk when these guys came out and the music quality is the best ,for they are raw and live anything more and they would be a Glam band !
For all of you saying "This sucks!" or "They're out of tune!", Venom were an offshoot of punk, and made no bones about their lack of chops! In fact, one one of their albums they said "Home Taping isn't killing music...Venom is!"
I bought a new copy of black metal today on LP. Been listening to venom for over 30 years now & the '81-'84 recordings should be in everyone's collection.
Am I alone who takes this video as a joke with a guitarist Rage behind drums (but he can play incredibly good) and a drummer Dante with a guitar (he can't play so good) ... ? so anyone still wondering about sound?
A good friend of mine went to see them a couple of years after this show. According to him, Cronos were so balding/thin-haired that his hair were more or less levitating behind him
Teutone Dude, this band has been completely revamped. Only the bassist/vocalist is an original (and not even constant) member. He went out and found professional musicians that played this badly. They are doing this INTENTIONALLY!
Actually it's black metal... this was the first form of black metal (venom's original releases (1981 previous) were thrash metal but this album is considered the first of black metal.)
From headline to opener, I did mention Dimmu Borgir & Cradle Of Filth last. Apparently, Dimmu Borgir & Cradle Of Filth are considered the biggest names in Black Metal today and yet suck. I just want them there to watch the masters at work after their sets are done so they can watch and weep.
Slayer was the first replica of Venom. That is why I put them second on the list. At the same time, none of those other bands I mentioned really brought anything new to the table as well like Venom did. Although, I believe this would be a killer show in nomine Satanas.
You seem to think I'm undermining what Venom have done in metal.... I'm not, in fact I'm usually an advocate of Venom's music and influence, I was just saying that without motorhead slayer wouldn't have seen the light of day.
No, the complex riffs came from Priest not Anvil. Did not mention Motorhead, because Slayer never sounded like nor mentioned Motorhead as an influence. Venom were not only influenced by Motorhead, but just as much by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Hardcore Punk & KISS (God Of Thunder).
They're A thrash metal band but that song and album are actually black metal (the first black metal.) You may notice the song structures and harsh vocals are very similar to bathory (especially in blood fire death when they started forming viking metal and moving away from black metal.)
Possessed & Death were prodigies of The Almighty Venom. Slayer were directly influenced by Venom, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, & Hardcore Punk. There is nothing you can tell me I don't know already. Slayer also liked Anvil, but did not show up on Slayer albums as an influence.
