Such an attractive pen, thanks for showing it to us. And thanks to Venvstas (VERY hard to type) for setting the price high enough that I am not tempted to buy it strictly on looks alone.
I had the leaking at the section joint problem with the carbon T, not only with the converter but also with a cartridge. I reported it to Venvstas and the sent my a different model and didn't request I return the original. Unfortunately, the replacement had the same issue. I had also supporter a kickstarter on a Venvstas a while back. It took a very long time but I finally received the pen; a similar design to the Carbon T. It also leaked. I really like the feeling of this pen. It's light and feels more like a pencil in the hand. However, in my experience, it is unusable.
funky looking pen David, nice, it reminds me of my Lamy CP1 or my Lamy ST.. but more my CP1. Always nice to see a different look to a fountain pen though, so thanks for showing us.. also going to have to check out some more inks now.
It is a design oversight to make the section come off with the same amount of force as the cap. That would seem very frustrating for daily use. Also, the nib unit needs to have a clean fit to the section so you don't get ink leak after filling. It just seems that a Muji pen would offer a better value for those looking for an industrial design.
Great review. It looks like a home made pen to me with the cuts to section and barrel, and the screws. Almost rough. Think how clean a Rotoring is, which is a similar industrial feel.
those screws are actually used in all sorts of applications. for example, the most recent time i saw one was on a collar for coupling the rotor of a stepper motor with a threaded rod to move the laser assembly on a laser cutter. for more information about them google "set screws." the screw used for a fencing epee seems like a variation on them, with some sort of proprietary screw head, while the one in this pen just uses a standard allen key.
I love the look of this pen! Especially when influencers on IG photograph it with their journals. It stands out! But every time when I go in search for reviews, it is the same thing. Problems, problems, problems. So my questions to myself are: Are the influencers actually writing with them in their journals or do they write with something more reliable and then pretend that they wrote it all, with the attractive Venvstas? For sponsorship? Because it does not make sense how a problemfilled pen, can be so much loved by influencers. Which brings me to my second main question. Has Venvstas listened to all conplaints and tried to fix the design so that it actually works? Because I certainly don't have the money to waste. I bought the Lamy2000 and hated it. I write small and hoped that the EF nib would write EF. Instead that nib writes medium, so I handed it to my husband, who writes bigger.
You might want to try some of the EF and F nibs from Pilot and Sailor. In regard to the Venvstas...I can't speak to what other creators produce...only my own work.
I love the visual design of the pen, but it seems like it needs some tweaking for a version 2.0. I know the aesthetic of the pen is all angled curves, but I don't think that is necessary to have where the barrel and section separate. I think it would be better if they screwed shut.
Nice review. Interesting pen but I don't know how anyone can look at those inks without sunglasses. Ouch! btw, I believe if you open those sites you don't want included in your recommendations you can open them in incognito mode.
Ow! Those neon inks hurt my eyes! They're certainly vibrant just not for me. As for the pen, I'm intrigued by the design but I get the sense that it's a solid 8 out of 10 on the "fiddly factor" (not in the good direction) plus it's rather slim for my hand. Now, that Franklin Christoph 66 you showed is another matter! It's on my "soon to buy" list.
It's not a bad looking epn, but they definitely went for form over function. There's a reason other pens have the section screw on. The barrel coming away from the section that easily is a deal-breaker to me. Maybe in the next version they can make some kind of clip or latch that keeps the section onunless you do something intentional. The price isn't bad for what it is, though.
Not my style, but I can definitely see how it would appeal to others. By the way, I saw a Rich Eisen video where he said that other than Daniel Jeremiah, he doesn't know another Padre fan. I'm sure you know more than I do!
To clean it easier with a bulb, you could cut the end of the bulb off until the section fits inside the bulb instead of the bulb fitting inside the section. There are a few other pens that require cleaning in this manner so it won’t be a complete bulb dedication to this one pen.
Another solution: take a standard (or even better, a long) international cartridge, cut the end off and insert the bulb into that. Montblanc even has an international cart with a plastic bulb end already molded on for cleaning the Bohème.
Hmm this pen doesn't float my boat David. .. too many fiddly things and the ink in the end would smash my head. .. then it worked along to the converter. .. er no sorry. . and it's too thin it would cramp my hand up. .. but thanks for reviewing it. The ink will be known as pepto bismal forever now 😆 I wonder if it tastes like Germoline ??? You never tasted Germoline ointment which is pink too. .. well it tastes like pepto bismal 😨 Hmm I like the taste of both, ,, then again, ,, I'm bizarre as a few of my friends tell me. .. sorry to go off piste couldn't resist. There's a fine line in design between 'minimalism' and 'plain boring'. Some pens stay on the right side of that line. This one unfortunately, does not.
Good grief, those ink swatches melted my retinas! As for the pen, it seems to have more negatives than positives. And in the area of style it looks like a Lamy 2000 that was designed in Bizarro World. No offense meant to the designers, just not my cup of tea. I was wondering, isn't it about time to shed that facial hair, lol?
Not really my cup of tea. There is minimalism and extreme minimalism and this pen, with a few flaws, falls in the latter category. A Lamy 2000 is minimalist and also aesthetically pleasing with good engineering, which this pen seems to lack. Thanks for the detailed review which I enjoyed.
Don't buy this pen. It leaks. An once it leaks, you'll find it very difficult to clean up because of its construction. It was so frustrating that I threw the pen away.
I have a hard time even watching this review to the writing review. If I want a pen that looks different, has many of the attributes, I can find a Chinese pen for about 1 to 2/10ths the price. If I am purchasing fountain pens, I want it to look a little more like a fountain pen than a throw-away. The perfect pen to meet the 3-components of Latin-classic design was already made costs less, and is spectacular: the Bauhaus-design winner, almost perfect fountain pen: the LAMY 2000! It is the only comparison that is logical, and by that comparison, this ego-need driven attempt needs to see the trash can. (Sorry, this one elicits no kindness.)
