Since a lot of people have been telling me that the "Nameless Voice" is actually Constant Drachenfels, I've aptly changed the title. And if you haven't noticed, you can skip between characters using the RU-vid's chapter function.
Reminds me of how bouncers would deflect a drunk’s complaints. Pretend you’re listening and offer them to continue. Without you saying anything else, the other speaker has nothing to work on - no response to toy with. They usually either tire themselves out, or will get the message pretty early on that you don’t care. I’d wager it’s either a soldier thing, or something he picked up from guarding.
I kind of like that the voice tries to weaken the resolve of each character by taunting them about their past, with the exception of Kruber. Kruber's guilt is so boiled into his personality and character that he's built up a thick skin about it, forcing the voice to try to sway him in a different way ala "money and power". Just kinda interesting that the character with the most willpower is literally the average joe.
At least when compared to the others he carries a lot less with him in the first place. As an other comment already put it: Bardin was exiled for not being good enough and thus loosing an important battle, which did cost the life of many of his family, including his own son. Saltzpyre was blindly following orders of evil authorities, which made him kill an innocent young girl. Sienna is gifted yet so addicted to the flame, that she lets it run loose and killed her mentor in his sleep just because she could. And finally, Kerillian saboutaged Uberstreik by leading or at least being part of the force to kill the ones protecting it. Kruber is a Mercenary. He kills for coins. That's what he is on the inside and that's what he is on the outside. The only thing daunting him is that he himself believes he left that behind by becomming part of the Uberstreik 5, but isn't sure if be can live up to that expectation he put up for himself. Daunting, but not something he would be condemned for.
@@flemlius3507 Well you're also forgetting that he has survivors guilt from basically everything he's ever done. The biggest example is when a necromancer whipped out his entire squad and the only reason he survived is because one of his loyal men pushed him out of the necromancers miasma. There's even an entire conversation between Sienna and him where she asks him why does he cling to his fear and prejudice of magic, fire and necromancy are completely different magics after all. He responds in a really somber tone "I'm really not trying to Wizzard." Kruber's faking that he doesn't care what the voice is saying, it's all an act.
Kruber sounds like a strong mind; Sienna sounds like she's a mad woman, so she doesn't care; Bardin is fighting against it; Kerillian and Victor sounds like they feel the guilty.
Or maybe she's a wizard and knows weird demon voices when she hears them. No need to be mad for that to be the case - well, no more than human mages in Warhammer Fantasy generally get. If you have the Red Wind trying to tempt you into burning everything all the time and hasn't done it yet at her age, I'd imagine you build some resolve. Addict or not.
In the first game Kerillian told Saltzpyre "I met one like you before. *One of my kind, she* too was convinced that she did holy work, and measured her success in blood" It all makes sense now.
@@oniemployee3437 She could have been talking about her friend Sofia, the one she saved from the pyre, she was a chaotic worshipmer after all, and we all know what Khorne wants you to do
The worst (or perhaps best) part about this is that they can't hear what the voice is saying to each other. So the audience knows Kerillian sabotaged Ubersreik or that Sienna killed her mentor or that Saltzpyre killed an innocent girl thinking she was a vampire but they don't know those things about each other. Its like one of those "reality" shows where you are waiting for all the secrets to come out but you know its absolutely going to destroy your favorite characters when they do. Top tier writing and level design for these Drachenfels maps.
@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi She knowingly killed a convoy of soldiers that would have bolstered the city against the skaven. Thus leaving the defenses undermanned when the rats arrived.
Craig Bledsoe She accidentally saw a vision that said “Ubersreik would play into the downfall of Athel Loren”. So she interpreted that as “the city needs to die”. So she sabotaged the defenses and assumed something would wipe it off the map. That something turned out to be clan Pestilence who, if victorious, posed a greater threat to Athel Loren than anything else that could have come out of that city. Thus she had the blood of hundreds of innocents on her hands AND was banished by her people. A lot of conjecture and filling in the blanks to get this, but it’s the clearest picture I could come up with.
I love that voiceline becomes it preys on a part of victor that he never wavers on when around others, that being his doubt. He always tried to reach sigmar in one way or another and was only able to finally achieve that goal when he became a warrior priest, before that he was left to fend off against the idea that maybe sigmar had abandoned him or was gone from this world. Which would be an absolutely terrifying resolution for a man as faithful as Saltzpyre.
he very likely also had a bad childhood wich his "resolute father" implies. that coupled with an early indoctrination makes him a pretty tragic and dangerous man
@@allanredhill8682 well that, and being a witch hunter has made him kill innocents due to authority's orders, and since his blind faith in authority, salt killed people that were innocent and at times just children. this coupled with the fact salt isn't the type of witch hunter to use the term "acceptable losses" and leave some flowers at the funeral, it weighs heavy on him saltspyre is a zealot for sure but has a conscience behind it
Kruber, the hero whom blames himself for the deaths of others and curses his lack of strength Bardin, the exile whom wasn't fast or strong enough and hides his pain in optimism Kerillian, the cold-hearted elf whom weakened Ubersreik for Clan Fester Saltzpyre, the zealot whom harbors much guilt for actions done in ignorance Sienna, the pyromaniac whom is too addicted to her own power, and burns others for it The one that must harbor the greatest fear of being discovered is Kerillian... She knows she's at fault for all of this. If it wasn't for her, Ubersreik might've been able to defend itself... Kruber is from Ubersreik, and that's the only person she's relatively close to, beyond Sienna. She fears that the guilt will crush her, and she fears that telling the truth would make her lose the only 'friends' she has left. She pushes them away, because of this fear. So it'll be 'easier' to leave when the time comes... It won't be, and she knows it...
I really hope we get something like this in Darktide. Vermintide is an incredible example of humanizing the world of Warhammer through the interactions between characters, and I can’t wait to see what the devs do with 40K characters.
@@raven75257 It's pretty unfortunate really. Having a weirdly mismatched penal squad walk over the bodies of their comrades that failed before them and start filling the halls with the corpses of their foes in spite of the efforts of the enemies and their own masters. That sorta stupid epic fun is what I love. Their attempt at personal characters is nice but it only made the game less personal not more
It’s a shame I have to watch vids like this to see the awesome dialogue in V2 Most of the time it’s just BY SIGMAR BY THE HAMMER A GLOBADIER LUMBERFOOTS MY DARLINGS
@@victuz apparently ULTs reset a 'timer' on when dialogue is spoken. so if no body ULT's over x amount of time, dialogues will play, but one someone ULT's then the timer resets. Which kinda sucks, since ppl ULT all the time.
MAYFLIES MAYFLIES MAYFLIES MAYFLIES CHILDREN YOU CALL THESE ARROWS? RADIANCE LUMBAHFOOT GLACIT MAYFLIES LUMBAHFOOTS I sure wish they did actually release the mute kerillian dlc frankly, her constant bantering made it impossible to hear alot of the unique dialogue ingame
@@dagoth-ursbeekeeper9119 with what they deal with, too much self-reflection will render them useless. Saltzpyre’s a rare witch hunter in that not only can he understand his moral failings but is strong enough to keep going and make up for it as best he can.
Kruber be like: Nurgloth: "Whats your blood price for the others, Kruber?" Kruber: "Uhmmm.... about 3 sacks of gold and a keg of Bugmans? Can you pay that?" Nurgloth: "I know you've thou- wait what? Uh... no, Im broke rn" Kruber: "Go annoy someone else then."
That's because he's been feeling guilty the entire time, theres nothing the Daemon could taunt him with that he hasn't already done to himself, everyone else comes back feeling like shit because of it but it was just another day in Kruber's head for him.
I absolutely adore Kerillian and Saltzpyre. Despite appearing hard and cold, they are actually pure of heart. Their feelings of guilt over the deaths of innocents trouble them much more than others which really shows their true character.
The writing in this game is natural characterization at its finest. Kruber already lives with his failures haunting him so he takes it on the chin and keeps pushing forward like he does with everything else. Bardin, kerillian and Victor are less open people and hide their troubled pasts by keeping all their worries in their own minds which fails them when the enemy is in there too so they cave in and plead for mercy. Sienna is just too old to give a shit anymore and completely accepts her mistakes, shes lived her life and the world is ending so she might as well set things on fire while shes still got one burning
it does help that Kruber legitimately hasnt done anything wrong, even if he does feel some guilt. Kerilian, Sienna, and Victor actually have alot to regret. Then Bardin honestly hasnt done anything wrong either, but he still doesnt want to reveal why he is exiled.
@@lenkagamine4145 My understanding of Bardins situation is that he's in self-exile. He blames himself for falling to a Gutter Runner and being unable to warn his Hold, and can't bring himself to stay with family or friends that have been hurt as a result of his failure. There may not be a single dwarf that actually blames him, but he assumes they do and pre-emptively left to "search".
My favourite part is that all the things the demon says are true (with the exception of maybe Bardin) It’s not just exaggerated guilt tripping from some asshole demon It’s their real guilt manifesting Even the heroes aren’t heroes How could they be in such a cruel world
@@victuz around and around, as said, trapped in the wind of heavens by the ruinous powers to my memory. He shows up at the end of the End Times and battles Archaon
Well, except Kruber. I mean, voice is just trying to peeve him with prospects of pawning his companions for thirty silver coins, but no sane man would do that.
Kerillian and Victor nearly crying hurt me a little. Kruber and Bardin being badasses flat out ignoring the whispers made me happy. And of course Sieena not giving a single Fuck made me laugh.
Nah, "Blah blah blah. No one cares." is a too well constructed comeback. The most brutal is Kruber's "and ?". The voice tried his hardest to find weak spots and all, and the dude it is tormenting just respond "and ? I don't see your point". It means that you have failed as a daemon/whatever that may be.
Man do i love Bardin's character design so much and him talking and singing just adds joy to the whole group, finding out about his son only made me more depressed about his past, as i already knew he was exiled but didn't know why. Really sad to see this happen to a person like him, so kind and warm to everyone, especially to Sienna where in one of the dialogues she says that she wont be accepted by anyone but Bardin says "To some of us dawi, to some of us."
@@armintor2826 I don't think that's the case, as far as I know. Dwarven biology is inherently resistant to magic (by design), to the extent that the Chaos Dwarf Sorcerers and Daemonsmiths, who do practise magic, find themselves gradually turning to stone.
@@armintor2826 Dwarfs in warhammer can not become wizards, they can become runepriests which is different. Only Chaos Dwarfs can use magic and it kills them over time.
@@fr-joey764 And Sienna's is more dismissal. She's not denying it, but she's also not accepting anything. She's try to play it off as if the things she's done don't matter anymore.
Absolutely disagree, kruber has accepted it cause he is the least ashamed of the 5 since he has no's real reason to, he is definitely acceptance, Sienna sounds even angrier in her answers so I would swap the two
@@victuz Most elves, specially Asrai and Druchii view the other races of order (save maybe the lizardmen) as less than. It doesn´t surprise me much that she would partake in the massacre of humans soldiers. Remember that line in Athel Yen Lui when Bardin asks her if the elven gods would help them and she states that they would just as gladly kill a dwarf as a Skaven? I think that encompasses well the view of the elven races on all others, even if from time to time they lend a hand to other forces of order.
@@snowythesnowball182 It's a little more complex than that, specifically with regards to the Elves of Ulthuan. Teclis represents a large faction of elves that support mankind and more international efforts against Chaos.
@@eldradulthran6482 Well, yeah. But that´s because of a plan to use the younger races to fight the common enemy, not because he wants to be friend. I know we are not supposed to talk about End Times, but Teclis steals the white flame of Ulric to try and revive Tyrion condemming Middenheim, the greatest human city fortress to fall, and shortly after dies Valen, the avatar of Sigmar. There´s also Imrik who crusades throught the world, but hated that he was saved by the Bretonnian King at some point, because being helped by humans made him feel icky or something.
@@snowythesnowball182 There is definitely a sense of superiority, but Teclis did actually view humanity with a level of respect, and believed he was in the right in taking the flame of Middenheim, though his plan ended up failing.
@@klyk69 the way they react to what he says shows that their is some air of truth to it. Like how the elf counts her kills and their is dialogue where saltz asks why she does that. And also dialogue where she talks about having to make up for something.
Oh they all know they exist. Kerillian is the most afraid because she has the most to lose if either the truth comes to light and how that guilt torments her. She killed reinforcements that may have saved Ubersreik, including Kruger’s family. It’s because of her that practically everyone in Ubersreik, hundreds, possibly thousands of people died because she preemptively killed a military convoy of people who are ostensibly her allies. Everyone knows Sienna is dangerous but they trust her to keep control. Even so they are all aware of the strain she faces and are wary enough of the possibility. Everyone is aware of Saltzpyre’s profession and what he’s likely done, the worst that comes is that they know he’s failed before. Not so terrible since they don’t really respect his authority anyway. Bardin’s personal grief is certainly a sore spot for him but it wouldn’t alienate him from them. While he’s certainly upset when they pry into his affairs, his personal shame and grief isn’t something that would make him turn on them or vice versa. And Kruber doesn’t really have anything to hide that he isn’t open about already.
In game these lines are so great. Especially when it happens to a teammate and all you hear is the reply from your teammate and wonder what the daemon was sayin
Its pretty amazing how the voice undermines each character not just personally but as a group. Picking at their personal weakness while many times using it to create mistrust.
Nameless Voice to me when playing Saltz: *S K A G G E N D O R F B O I I I* Me who doesn't know anything about the lore: I DON'T CARE, YOUR WORDS ARE HERESY, YOU SHALL PERISH.
You have no idea how heavy his guilt were. But different from the rest of the team, most people know that he was the only survivor of his band before Vermintide. That's why you don't feel like he's harboring guilt. Like he said "And?" he soaked it. Just like Sienna
@@mahendrakrisnamurti9599 On the flipside, Kruber did spilled the fact that he raided and pillaged places such as Parravon, while no one knew Sienna essentially helped her sister, a dangerous necromancer, escape.
Constant Drachenfels is such a strange character, he's probably one of the oldest wizards in the WHF world considering he's so old that he remembers the coming of the Old Ones
I wish his lore could have been refined some more for the later editions. I mean I would like to know how he was even able to learn necromancy, because I dont think he has any early connections with Nagash that we know of. Also shouldnt he be much older than Nagash too if what you say is true? That means he would have been able to increase his lifespan, even before any human civilization? I cant really imagine all that being true at the same time, at least if looking to newer lore and his relevance in it.
Sounds like Saltzspyre and Kerillian are being eaten alive by their own guilt. Kind of humanising really. That the immortal elf and the ruthless witch hunter are haunted by dark guilt over innocence.
what's interesting is Saltz (muh boi) had his eye plucked out by a grey seer. the only grey seers i know of in WHO Fantasy are the Horned Rat's Grey Seers. So saltz run-in with the skaven in the mines (where he also killed the innocent girl whom he thought was a vamp) involved way, way more than we think it does. more that just losing an eye and killing a girl
That's what set me off, too. Was he cooperating with the skaven then? At least temporary? What about the Grey Seer in WH Vermintide 1, though? Wasn't that one human?
@@Mayhzon no the grey seer in VT 1 was Skaven. He wasn't co-operating. He went in to shut down a Baron's mine which was producing warpstone. The Baron was selling it to both vampires and a skaven grey seer. Hence Saltz coming in and fucking shit up. It does say on Saltzs' wiki that he's basically barred from being promoted in the ranks of witch hunter because he accepts heretical means to get to his goal. Some shit happened. Should they find out about Kerillian sabotaging and dooming Ubersreik, it would be hell. Kruber will almost instantly try to kill her-his family died directly because of clan fester, Bardin will probably help Kruber as they are buddies and Bardin knows a thing or two about losing family and grief, Saltzpyre will probably understand but still try to kill her as it is his job to destroy threats to the Empire. Th only one who may defend her is Sienna, but who knows how she will react.
hes really not. he has a lot of guilt but he lived his life a unscrupulous mercenary. And while he had compassion for the people he fought alongside with its pretty clear and implied that he lend his sword to more...darker deeds if the coin was right....
Oh... oh shit. So that's what the bridge battle Kerillian boasts about was. She killed the Empire soldiers sent to defend Ubersrike. This is bad... this is really-really bad. Better hope Saltzpyre never figures it out.
wow. the ubersreik five are all sad, borken people. each has a past they regret and they each more or less accepted that thier road has reached it´s end. Kerillian seeks to settle a debt which she will never consider paid, Bardin quests for a goal he knows to be unattainable, Victor decends into obsessing over skaven to avoid thinking about the fact that his faith failed him and he is doubting and both Sienna and Markus have just sort of resigned themselves to keep going on with no purpose or goal in mind. kruber doesn´t even deny these accusations or try to make excuses (I.e. "It wasn´t so siple" "that wasn´t my fault") he just goes "yes and?" It´s really frightening to see him discociate like that.
This would make a great series or movie when all of the characters open up to one another about their past. I wonder how it’ll play out since Kerillian had the biggest fuck ups out of all of them Saltzpyre would want to bring her to justice, Kruber would be furious since he lost a lot of men from the skaven
Ultimately, she was following a vision that appeared to be true but was ultimately flawed and she is paying the price of her failure, first by being exiled by her people for it and fighting to make it right, so Kruber may understand, humans have given orders to do things that were blatantly wrong, so it's not like they're not without faults, he would condemn her for it or figure that extra troops wouldn't have made a lick of a difference, but he would not kill her, it's not his call to make. Bardin would be much like Kruber I reckon, his own failures led to a lot of great loss and is paying the price for it just as well himself, granted it was his own people but in his mind that's probably worse. Sienna would very much be upset about it, but would likely figure that Kerrilian only meant to do right by her people and overstepped her boundaries, it's not like that she's perfect herself considering that her own obsession with fire has caused a lot of grief, maybe not a whole town but it certainly could happen given time, hell she even fancies the idea so she's hardly better. And likely say that the past is done, nothing can't be changed, can only move forward. and Saltzpyre, he would have to be held back from killing her. But I think it would depend on the career, assuming that any of the carrers are canon, Witch Hunter and Zealot would want to kill her outright for that crime. Bounty Hunter just as well but he would likely realize that the reason she is fighting is to make it right, so probably act like he is doing with Sienna, her jailor who grants her a longer leash to fight against the common enemy. Her penance to fight until there's no Skaven left or die doing so. (I believe that considering the backstory that comes with Bounty Hunter and seeing that his blind faith to the Order's hierarchy was misplaced, much like like how Kerrilian placed blind faith in her vision, same thing, different circumstances, the Order could easily order a whole town to be put to the flame on mere suspicion of heresy after all.)
@@BringDHouseDown She tricked them into attacking that convoy on a false pretense. She didn't tell them the true reason behind why they attacked it, which is why when those above her found out she was singled out and exiled as a result. It was her decision to do it and drag others into helping her.
I'm pretty sure kruber's parents were killed in ubersriek by skaven, beacuse kerillian lead a team to kill the only people that could have stopped it.. Furious might be an understatement
I remember finishing chaos wastes run with my friend, and randomly hearing one of this lines in the Keep. Exactly at the moment my buddy went AFK to grab something to eat. I thought I have gone mad, but it's good to know that these lines exist in-game.

Lol, that line about a bridge and "two regiments disappearing without a trace" got explained at last. So Kerillian really was there and killed humans because ahe believed that they would endanger her forest. And she felt proud for herself doing that.
Nope, different events, hogger's bridge is old news before the vermin apocalypse and kerillian is happy about that, this is a convoy is eating away heavily at her so much drachenfels is taunting her with it to great effect.
He is without a body and has lost his memories, if we go by how Nagash finds him in the End Times. He clearly has bigger problems than a bunch of ratmen and some shirtless dudes taking his old magic baubles. Still a dick though, as can be seen in this video.
All I hear is kruber being piss off, bardin being stubborn and sayin your a liar and don't exist ,kerillian being crushed by guilt ,saltz being terrified angry and broken, sienna just being annoyed and not carring
Saltzpyre is bothered, yes, but he also seems like he's the good person that's upset about like, one mistake. Dude's an unflagging machine of heavenly justice and he's constantly haunted by the exception to the rule. Importantly - the daemon also objectively lies to him, implying that the daemon may also be lying in the other character's comments.
I might have missed it but I swear there’s one that’s something like this: Voice: “Can’t you recognize a lost cause when you see one?” Kruber: “Aw come on, don’t be so hard on yourself!” What a burn lol
No, hogger's bridge is an event in the pass as victor clearly knows about it second hand as if it's been documented and speculated about and kerillian is joyous about that event. Here, the sabotage of the military convoy is devastating to her, so much so that drachenfels is using it againist her. So no, she's not having an emotional 180 about the same event just because someone else is talking about it.
