Its so sad to have left this horse to get this bad... and as much pain as he must have been in, hes so gentle whilst getting this done. Beautiful temperament.
There's literally nothing that can be done for this horse. He will never be able to grow a hoof again. The coronary band, where the hoof grows out from, is damaged and doesn't grow hoof horn anymore.

I wouldn't think that horse is able to serve any mares with a foot like that, the weight he has to put on that foot while he is serving the mares will be to painful for him. He needs proper vet treatment.
This is disgusting and totally cruel to the animal. A stud?? He wouldn't be able to hold his weight on that hoof while covering a mare and it could be hereditary. Sadly this horse should be seen by a qualified vet and given antibiotics or euthanised out of it's suffering. It takes 12 months for a hoof to grow from the cornet to the toe and if the owner has allowed this to happen they certainly won't take care of it for approximately 12 months which the first 3+ months should be stabled with daily wound management. I would love to hear what a GB or USA vet would say about this video. The owners ought to be charged and jailed for animal cruelty. Thabj you for helping. That bone is infected and it is tracking up the leg. To say that he is in unbelievable pain is an understatement. It needs to be dry, immobile and thoroughly cleaned several times per day. Very difficult situation being made impossible by reluctant owners. Breeding from a clearly damaged and distressed animal? Prolonged suffering. I wish we could help you. It must be hard. Poor horse.
They need info to be available aside from a vet so this extreme can be prevented. With even the most basic of info on horse husbandry in general, many issues can be recognized and treated BEFORE it develops into this kind of tragedy. A vet would be nice but pertinent info could lessen the need enough so that the animals could have a better chance and the owners/mgt could afford to take better care.
That hoof is in an absolutely disgusting state. The bone must be dissolving by now inside that infection. The owner shouldn't be allowed to keep this horse, what a disgrace, shame shame shame on them
Poor horse. I hope you are successful getting this horse’s hoof to heal and grow properly. Renato is doing a great job. I hope he will heal so Renato can reduce or eliminate his pain. There’s no saving this horse. It looks like there is already reduced blood flow in his leg, because there is Edema and buildup of fluid in the leg. Its origins are often lymphatic dysfunction. But also injury.
I want to see the rads on this foot. I would be absolutely shocked if everything showed up as normal skeletal structure underneath there and we did not see the coffin bone having some damage and potentially a gas tract or pockets plus the level of edema in the leg and maybe infection (does it reach the bone?). A CBC w/ diff would give more info as well as the horse's vitals. The horse is in pain and sensitive to touch in the area, likely an increased heart rate, increased white blood cells, lymphocyte levels, and neutrophils. . . . I do sadly agree that this horse will not have a recovery to a pain free life or a life where that hoof is able to be regrown with the damage that has occured and I am deeply saddened for the horse that it is currently be used as a stud and needing to mount a mare using that hoof to put weight on.
I was wondering the same thing if there was any repairing that could be done to this hoof. it just looks horrible. Those gnats and mosquitoes or whatever they are in there.

Welcome to any non-developed, non-westernized country. Domesticated animals there are managed more like wild animals, allowed to roam and be free most of the time, and this exposes them to some of the same risks as wild animals.
People dont have the money for a vet, even if they could find one. This is farmland in Brazil. Far from anywhere and probably an hour drive to the nearest town with a grocery store. If it wasnt for these guys helping the animals for free, many would get septic and die.
This one will die from this. The bone is infected and being eaten away. As they say no hoof no horse. It will take 12 months and daily intricate care to get this healed on a healthy foot. There is no chance with this poor animal. 🤬🤬

Just watch surgery from another place. 1 horse had kissing spine surgery on his back.. Watching entire progress plus 1 horse with 2 eyes removed. Although U was sad she lost her sight she will no longer be in pain. Which should be the very least goal for any of them!!!!! I have watched u guys several times and you always take care, are gentle and do the very best service for the animals Pls try to get owner to do what u know is right. More care!!!! Judy.
Ive seen many ferriers use a grinder to help shape the hoof more quickly. They also glue blocks onto the bottom of the hoof to reduce pressure and help in healing. Do you use these measures? Did you spray iodine on the area? Water will not remove fly larva. What about anti inflammatory meds?
Absolutely shocking, glad you are trying to help, but the owners expect this poor horse to breed, thus putting immense pressure on the back feet? Put the poor horse out of his misery for god's sake.
What caused the original injury? Is he kept in a stall or in pasture? I think in pasture would help, other wise in a stall he would not move around and he could lose all mobility in the foot. You said he is a breeding stallion, he seems gentle and calm. Those traits will help him heal. I dont think the hoof will look like the other hooves, what matters is how comfortable you can make him feel. I hope he continues to regrow the hoof, and not founder in the other hooves. And keeping him mobile will help him in the long run.
This horse has obviously been extremely neglected. The horse itself is in very bad shape. Its life has obviously been torturous. What pain he must of been suffering for a prolonged amount of time. Too bad he couldn’t have been rescued.
Awful injury that went without medical attention. The hoof will grow but what kind of damage to The foot would be good to know…and to follow to see if she is able to recover.
Sad that this horse is used as a stud to make them money yet they cannot pay for proper medical care for him, this horse should not be bred to pass on defects like this, you can see how much swelling he has had in his whole leg due to the wrinkling of the skin and the odema of the joints. Sad.
That poor horse needs internal antibiotics as well, that is very sad. As well as pain meds, how did they ever let it get that bad? That is heartbreaking.
Talk about animal abuse! This just didn’t appear one morning waking up. It happened over a period of time and the owner should have taken steps to fix this long ago.

The ferrier is the help. The owner is trying to get the horse well using antiseptics and ferrier care. A vet is likely not available in the area, and if one is, is likely too expensive. If the horse continues to get worse, yes, it should be put down out of kindness. But it's up to the owner to make that decision based on the horse's actions. Keep in mind, a wild animal that suffered an injury like that would be dead. It seems though that the injury is already old and slowly healing, meaning the care the owner is providing is having a positive effect, albeit a slow one.
Wow, this poor guy is getting a major pedicure. Well that hoof grow back. It’s a mess. I think that’s the worst one I’ve seen especially with the bugs and everything in there.
