Now that is an interesting and strange catch. Sounds like this aircraft has some impressive performance, bet it's a lot of fun to fly! Great footage of the crosswind takeoff.
Very nice footage, nasty crosswind at rotate, i thought he might lose control for a second, i think i saw one of these years ago parked for observation at the Dayton, Ohio air show, and i also noticed this plane seemed to have odd designed rear landing gear, and for some reason the rear wheels looked to small, they were almost the same size as the nose wheel
Its a funny airplane :DD And indeed it was a very windy takeoff!! Very nicely filmed my friend and awesome view! It was really cool to see! :) Have an awesome day !:D
Unusual aircraft! Quite small, but does have important though unique aerodynamic Form an structure, Verry helpful to have a clean high wing configuration, they tend to be Verry Efficient during flight, important too is also a powerful turboprop for propulsion laboratory, though the seating space on the aircraft looks limited an cramped & I would expect to see that type of odd landing gear configuration on a fighter jet!
Thank you for watching! During 2015 a decision was made to end production of the Extra 500. I believe there was only a few made so it is quite rare to see one.
Walter Extra retained the Type Certification and sold the design and production rights to a Chinese Aircraft Manufacturer, Jiangsu A-- Star Industry Co., Ltd. Extra is training engineers and providing parts and support. This design may eventually reemerge in Western Markets, with more turboprop engine options.
Thank you very much! Yes I was reading on the internet that not many are made at all. It seems there trying to make more, I really hope it succeeds as they are beautiful aircraft!
A very rare german plane indeed ! The maker disappeared a few years ago because of the price of all their planes, but I read somewhere that a chinese (!) society bought the rights on purpose to produce it again... and cheapper... Thank you very much for that very nice spotting.
Text book crosswind takeoff. Tricky AC to land and takeoff due to the rear main setting so close. Fast and efficient. Too bad they didn't make a good impact in the US market.
Getting licensed to fly the Eclipse is a lot more difficult (especially in the USA), and it burns a lot more fuel. Unfortunately, the Extra has very little passenger capacity when fully fueled; the airplane has been discontinued.
