Vetterli Carcano 70/87/15 range day, did it blow up?

I bought this with the intention of just leaving it on the wall and then I ran across a few vids of guys who downloaded commercial ammo to shoot them, so I bought a hand loader and some dies and made some special loads for it. All in all a fun day and a neat gun. I would caution you to do this at your own risk as there have been some failures with these guns.

What a beautiful old rifle for $300. Geez, it makes about as much noise as a powerful air rifle ! The kick looks just about nonexistent. Also love the color of the stock wood

To be fair he is firing drastically reduced power cartridges out of it, but yes 6.5mm military cartridges were generally relatively lightly recoiling.

I have 9 Carcano’s plus the Arisaka Type I , made by Italy for Japan . I , myself don’t know how far back I want to go with my Carcano’s . Good info on what you did to be able to shoot the rifle safely .

Carcano are from 1891 to 1941 this is not a Carcano by any means the only thing this rifle share with the 91 is ammo and magazine besides is just a Vetterli Vitali 1870/87 just converted that's why the /16 or /15 those rifle were made in a hurry for WW1 cause there wasn't a sufficient amount of rilfe

@@JDaVaporPhonkGuy03 yes , what I meant to say is how far back I want to go with my overall collection of Italian rifles . Do I want black powder rifles , or rifles at the transition from black powder to smokeless . Just expressing my thoughts on where I want to go with my rifle collection , weather Italian , Russian , French , Japanese , British . I like watching others videos of their rifles weather I will acquire one or not , it is always interesting

@@milsurprifleguy7091 definetly this rifle is interesting but surely i would keep this on a wall than shooting it

One reason these guns might be unsafe to fire is due to a bore that is under .268 diameter.
@milsurpmagazine9515
@milsurpmagazine9515 Год назад
I measured mine and it measured at .267 which is the same as what the projectile measured.
@kibbeystovall7546

Were the original bullets in the PPU loaded ammo not 0.268"?
@milsurpmagazine9515
@milsurpmagazine9515 Год назад
No PPU uses .264 projectiles and they can prove to be very inaccurate in some carcano barrels.
@74nova36
@74nova36 Год назад
@@milsurpmagazine9515but as far as simply firing it could in theory just put the .264 back in the brass after emptying the charge to 20gr?
@milsurpmagazine9515
@milsurpmagazine9515 Год назад
@@74nova36 Sure it’ll fire just fine you may get keyholing though, just depends on the bore diameter.

Photo of bullets in bag out of focus. What are the bullets. What kind of powder
@milsurpmagazine9515
@milsurpmagazine9515 Год назад
They are Ppu .268, got them at grafs and sons. The powder is what was in the ppu commercial ammo. I emptied it all and put 20 grains back in.

@@milsurpmagazine9515 BE CAREFUL using .268 bullets in these, they're one of the large reasons for kabooms in these guns!
