Sorry if this has been requested before but I'd love to see a Sound Effect/Designer Artists React special. Maybe with a guest who works on sound design in films who can put a spotlight on the process, provide insights, give us their top sound effects and generally tell us how sound and visual effects work together on a scene. There are so many amazing sounds in cinema that deserve some attention. To name my favourites: - The pod race in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999) - The alien appears scene in Alien (1979) - The beach scene in Saving Private Ryan (1998) - The bombing raid in Unbroken (2014) - The Balrog (specifically its roar. It's like a hot furnace) in LOTR (2001) Love your content guys!

Flight of the Navigator from 1986 was one of the first movies to feature CGI chrome objects, image based lighting and morphing. Also, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory looks like CGI with the squirrel attack but they really trained squirrels to attack a stuntwoman.

Yea still one of my favourites, the way they capture dream like state, and the realism of the real word, so you can feel the distinction without exposition. Also Joel is just fantastically acted the whole cast did so well to capture a very realistic vibe of their characters, which makes the dreams and music all the more surreal.

They used her passing the frame as almost a wipe cut.

Usually actors play multiple shots of same scene. And in post they can use parts of each but with cuts noticeable by different angles. In these cases they did that but "stitched" in a way that is seems it's just one take from same camera

There’s a 25th anniversary edition DVD of Star Trek: The Motion Picture that Paramount gave to a special effects studio to RESTORE the effects they had planned for originally during production, but ran out of money to shoot. It got so well that I had a hard time distinguishing where the restored effects began and ended. Interesting thing about fire: With HDR, this all goes out the window. My daughter took a photo of a car fire the other morning with her iPhone, and the fire was fluorescent orange and detailed with a yellow core. The truck was white, and it was full daylight. Some of that detail was very likely the built-in Apple AI processing (not a big fan of that because it invents detail, like painting grass over pavement in my past experience), but much was presumably HDR. Nothing was over-exposed. It looked unreal because of how orange the flame was. Tons of thick oily smoke behind it as well. In a second photo she took of that, the clouds in the sky were completely blown out, but the fire was still orange.

Don't let the nice looking Rings scenes fool you. This show was garbage. Awful. Waste of existence. You will regret every minute your eyes watch it. It, was, such, a, disappointment. So, bad. Thanks for reading. Xoxoxo.

It's very early in a sunday, I'm really tired, and idk why I imagined Mr Khanikian saying "oh there's no VFX in that shot, that man is just that tall! " and it made me laugh.

Oh My Renders!! Thats amazing work in Birdman. Having been a VFX Editor for a studio that mainly did Compositing, I got to watch the progress of them doing a performance stitch from different points in the same take and melding them together in the movie Dead for a Dollar.

These episodes are always so fun to watch.

There is an old Star Wars parody of "Cops" called "Troopers". A co worker of mine showed it to me and I was really impressed with some of the effects this small team was able to pull off for the time it was made. Super funny clip with some references to a New Hope.

Love your work, please do an episode celebrating your favourite 'long takes' or 'one-shotters'. There's a long history of perfecting the one shotter

Birdman's cinematographer was Emmanuel Lubezki, Mexican Legend, he always works with Cuarón and Iñarritu, you can watch his work in Revenant with that beautiful lightning or in Cuaron's Children of Men

This might be your best video yet. It's exactly what CGI is all about. Absolutely mind-blowing.

IDK if hes been on before (im a filthy casual, occasional viewer) but I dig this guy. Probably just his buttery smooth voice, but yeah great breakdown of the techniques involved. Definitely invite Ara Khanikian back if you can!

You need to take a look at the stunts and special effects in the low budget action movie, Free Fire. It's basically a giant shoot out in a warehouse between two gangs set in the 70s. They have practical effects of one guy getting set on fire that looks incredible and another guy having his face run over by a van. In the behind the scenes they show how they rigged up the van to run over the actors face. When they went to shoot no one trusted the rig to work without hurting the actor so the director laid down on the ground and let the van run over his face to prove it was safe. The movie's also just an awesome hilarious blast to watch! I highly recommend it!
