A quick VFX breakdown of my recent Blood of the Daleks animation! This also acts as a bit of a breakdown for my other Dalek animations as similar techniques are generally used.
The film was rendered with Blender's biased Eevee engine, and though obviously that is far more inferior in comparison to Cycles, I like to challenge myself by pushing the engine to its limits! Trying to make the scene efficient to render but also look almost like it would in Cycles.
I hope this video helped inspire some of you and if you have any questions, please comment them down below as Im more than happy to share my experience!

The Revelation suite is really beautiful, isn't it? It accompanies the mystery of the Daleks really well. Great work btw.

Glad to finally see a version of this scene with imperial daleks, how it would have ACTUALLY been given when the story came out.

Please would you be able to make a video on how to do the dome lights? I've been doing animations myself and I can't figure out how to do the dome lights properly. I can make them flash, but not turn off when the Daleks aren't speaking. If that makes sense.

If you’re using the method of baking audio f-curves to control the value plugged into a light or emission material in Blender, it may be that your audio wave troughs are too high and cause the lights to be on a bit. You can use maths nodes to multiply or create a floor for your value. I think it’s better to “compress” the values like this anyways as it avoids the lights peaking at integers between 0 and 1 (or whatever your lowest and highest values are) as this wouldn’t happen in real props

How did you make the Like little dome area spin

How do you create the imperial dome lights? - I can model the geometry, but I don't know how you make the acrylic disc light up

Thanks for the question!! First I assigned a new material to the acrylic or light up bit. This material used a mix shader node and then a glassy material and an emission material. I plugged a value node into the factor port and then baked sound curves to that value. Using different maths nodes you can multiply or subtract from the intensity. Hope that helped 😁
