VI MIGHT BE THE BEST CHARACTER! - Arcane Episode 5 REACTION!

"Cait this, Cait that". They've seen Caitlyn for like 1 episode and they're already overly familiar 🤣

One of the things I absolutely love about this show is that they're willing to show Silco, a mastermind style villian, as being surprised by information he doesn't have. He really thought Vi was dead, because that's what Marcus told him. Most shows that have that kind of villian are so afraid of showing their villian being fallable because they're worried that if they seem like they don't know everything they won't be scary. Silco might be my favorite villian of all time.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but Katie Leung, the voice of Caitlyn, was raised in Scotland. She said that Caitlyn's accent was the hardest accent she's ever had to do in her acting career. Even harder then an American accent. Also, Katie Leung is best known for playing Cho Chang in the Harry Potter movies.

Glad you left almost the full Vi vs Sevika fight uncut. It's a great one. They even throw these quick jabs to regain space that you never see in animation. I later learned they consulted actual fighters but I was 900% sure they did before looking it up. It shows. The writing of the episode magnificent too but that goes without saying.

GOD I love Vi. You see so many "strong female characters" these days that are written so poorly, just emotionless robots who are better than everyone at everything for no real reason. But Vi earns our respect on screen. She's so confident and tough but like...well of course she is. My girl survived the streets and then years in a supermax prison so by the time she gets out of there, she's seen it all and she knows she can handle herself. But she did it all out of love, first to protect her sister and then in the hope that she'd find her again someday, and that's what really gets me. There's a genuine softness to her underneath the tough exterior. Truly one of my all time favorite characters, hats off to the Arcane writers.

The thing that breaks me whenever I see this episode is that whole "There's always tomorrow". Victor is confident he might not have tomorrow. She was trying to cheer him up and instead she just gave him one more reason to stay working harder.

Love you guys' reaction to this episode. Some non-spoiler info: Caitlyn is a sniper in the LoL game. She didn't get Jayce's permission, she forged Vi's release. Victor's infatuated assistant's name is Sky Young (just thought you should know). They intentionally made Silco's and Jinx's relationship look a little creepy for effect, but it's really a father-daughter one. Jinx told Silco that Vi left but Marcus told him and everyone else afterwards that Vi died (maybe because of injuries from the last explosion/fall) then kept Vi in Still Water Prison (to protect himself because she knows about his involvement in the death of Grayson).

That entire scene when the music kicked in is absolute perfection! "Oh the Misery!"

this is actually a second time Cara misstook Caitlyn for Jinx for a sec. ^^ Well, let's just say ... the parallels are intentional ;) Also: Vi's inmate number "516" is a pun on her name

just a sidenote : this is not a "cover" when the song plays. They animated the whole band (Imagine dragons) with the theme song for the show into this show (the opening song is an orchestrial version of this btw). This song is the main theme(for Jinx) for the show and has its own separately animated video. I strongly recomment to react to it because it has additional footage scenes to the 1rst season and is just absolutely slapping. For the reaction of the last episode I recomment to include the Arcane S2 teaser. It is just a few seconds but after the finale you will need it - I think it adds to the discussion of theories about how the show goes on and it is a very fun teaser. Please comment in your reaction, if we can openly discuss in the comments with you about certain characters and theories, because we come from the game and know the basic lore about certain characters so we pick up on some teasers that people who don't play the game don't and essentially giving you hints there would be a spoiler so if you don't appreciate that, please give a hint there, so hopefully the community will hold back on some spoilers (Riot love to tease things way in advance so there is a lot to discover ^^). But to make it clear- Riot just confirmed this month that Arcane is fully canon (it differs at certain points from the previous lore we know). Some details of the story were up till now not considered a retcon in comparison to the basic lore of LoL but with this statement it is clear now that the basic lore will be retconned in favor of better storytelling(=Arcane) - however, that does not change the fact that we know the basic red line of the universe. Thereforere, the exact story that Arcane tells is even a secret to the player base (Riot never tells a story twice to keep all content interesting for all). BUT Arcane is set as a prelude to the actual lore of the characters we know. Arcane is basically a "Badman Begins" kinda show for us players. Which means WE - as player - know the basically how some characters will/have to develope at some point in the story or even telling you which character is a champion in the game would be a big spoiler for you. So, if you don't want that, please state your mind on that. At some point Arcane will arrive at the current timeline of the lore and then even go beyond -THIS will the be completely a blackbox for all viewers. I am so exited! Also, I really love your appreciation for the work that is put into this show (they took 6 years to make this!)- especially your comments on some story elements and the visuals. I personally really love how they write the women in this show(everything else is stellar as well but this really stands out because it is rarely so well done in shows) and animation wise you can really feel the punches - especially in this episode it is so well done. Since you have so much appreciation for it, I highly recommend watching the documentary on the YT League of Legends channel (5 parts- each around 20 min) when you finished the season and the reaction to the "Enemy" song. Jinx has her own music video "Get Jinxed" so maybe you want to react to that as well. In the documentary "Bridging the Rift" they explain how this show came to be, what obstacles they had and that they essentially did everything by themselves - even the whole score for the show which is so impressive and just fantastic. It is truly fascinating and interesting and all reactors up to now really liked it. Arcane S2 will probably be released 11/2024 (my best guess -first season was premiered in 11/2021 as well) . The release year 2024 was recently offically confirmed :)

A little easteregg if you don't mind. Vi is prisoner 5-1-6 according to Caitlyn. Well, 5-1-6 in Roman numerals would be V I VI right? 😉 This show and the details are just amazing🤩🤩

You're right about meeting adult Vi in this episode. Fortiche already did such a top tier job of the detail, emotion and motivated movements in the characters, but for me it was this episode that really drove it home. When I first watched it I got chills from Vi's charisma, like I was in the room with a real human. Same when Jinx steps into the arcade and is putting the machine back together, combined with their old school cinema shot selection, I just felt like I was watching a 'real' person. Incredible work.

just in case you missed it: The Band playing the song in the series are actualy the imagine dragons. And I dont mean the song I mean the Band members themself. They just made them as characters its so sick

20:40 nice catch, the amount of time i had to explain Markus psychy, the man is traped. Edit : Yes, it's true that episodes were released by a batch of 3 but, it's also true, starting from episode 5, quality is just jumping an higher sailing each episode somehow

The title "everyone wants to be my enemy" applies to several characters within the same episode, Vi returning to a place that was once her home but is now her enemy's, Jinx with her ghosts from the past that torment her, Caitlin going to a place that he does not know or know how to move, Jace who now with a seat on the council realizes that they are behind his back if he does not enter the game of politics, Marcus who sees himself intimated from both ends with Silco on one side and Jace of the other. Regarding the prologue, we discover that Caitlin received training and advice from a mentor whom she followed in her footsteps by serving the city and not living off the luxuries of her last name, steps that Marcus himself did not follow but became bitter about his decisions and actions. , with unequal treatment with Silco and if you remember correctly in the second episode he said "every coin that passes through here is the product of crime", while he receives payments and "I'm going to bury them all" but he ends up burying his own officers for pretending that he didn't see anything, the fact of imagining that he activates the grenade is something that Silco himself anticipates but knows that Marcus is a coward. Caitlin and her adventure or date with Vi have all the ingredients for them to end up forming an alliance. Vi, far from losing old habits, feels free and after giving her partner a tour, she meets an old ex-friend of Vander's and shows us that all those years In prison they tanned her for that moment, far from being impeccable, it is realistic and logical since down there things are even harder than before, the revelation that her sister was adopted by her enemy and baptized with another name, an action that Silco takes out to cleanse Powder from his being, which he himself believes is what stops her from moving forward. Jace, on the other hand, the closer he gets to the circles of political power and his relationship with Mel Medarda in his passions, the further he moves away from his original goals as an inventor "to make the world a better place" and from his colleague and friend Victor who saved him. of a tragic destiny to be left aside and succumb to the illness he was hiding and in reality he also sought to help himself with his research but many in the lanes also need that help and something that seems to be very common is that the best advances of the Science was made to improve the lives of everyone, although as usual it seems to improve lives at the top first and those at the bottom later or if possible. a very taboo topic.

Jayce is the most misunderstood person in the entire show. He makes the hard descisions, so that he is able to do what is necessary and everyone thinks he is corrupted by power. Really sad, that a lot of people miss that Jayce actually dont want to fit in the system. He recognizes that there is only one way to change the world: you have to seize the power in this way and as soon as you have the power, you can do, what you think is the right thing. It gets more clear in later episodes, I think. But you can clearly see: him taking a deep breath before he talks to the council: he is preparing himself to do something, he didnt wanted to do in the first place (like he said before: "you pushed this on me"). He is not getting corrupt. He is playing the game to achieve his goals later on. minor spoiler alarm: When I watched for the first time, I even thought, that Jayce is a boring character, because he is too "good". Then I saw all the comments of him getting corrupt. It is not entirely true. He uses his power to achieve his goals. And he has a hard time with his decisions. Jayce is faced with some of the hardest choices in the show. And he always does what he thinks is best for the people he cares about (Viktor, Undercity), never what is best for him. Now I think, Jayce and his arc are highly underrated.

I've never called it this with other animated shows but the cinematography in Arcane puts many live action shows and movies to shame. The angles, camera work (ironically), and shot composition (animating the birds taking off when the guns are discharged) are breathtaking. Then, they throw in a Live performance and a fight that has been praised by professional fighters for its realism just to flex.

I have never seen a human as jumpy as Cara

One of the (many) things I like about Arcane is that there are lots of shades of grey and many different characters, each with their own viewpoints and ways of doing things. And the show rarely if ever feels like it's trying to 'push' the audience towards any particular stance. Instead, it simply shows us the characters, shows us what they do and why they do it, and lets the audience form their own opinions. Thanks for the video.

The guy playing that weird instrument is an actual person called Ray Chen, he played a lot of the violin music in the show and some of the sound track as well. Just like they did with Imagine Dragons in the show.

So this show has so many small details it'll take dozens of watches to notice them all, that said take a look at the two cards that Sevika plays before her encounter with Vi. Stuff like that is always on purpose. Also a very important line is stated by Silco when 'baptising' Jinx that comes back around in the last episode. 'Jinx is perfect.' Take careful notice of how the line changes in episode 9 and the implications it has.

why everyone hate marcus so much ? I can completely understand his point of view and the fact that he made a bad choice and now he is in a spiral that he can no longer stop for his daughter. Marcus is like the other Arcane characters, he is gray but I have the impression that people understand him less than the others

Lol. "Jinx is such a badass and so cool", proceeds to kill innocent people for personal gain. Marcus shows remorse for his fallen colleagues and doing as his predecessor did in trying to maintain peace "Marcus is such an asshole, someone had a daughter with him."

Marcus told Silco Vi was dead (he killed her?) that is why Silco is surprised she's alive and why Jinx thinks she'd dead too.

Something I love about this episode is that last week we saw the advances in hextech with the atlas gauntlets and the laser arm thing. And while we got hints of it with jinx's bombs this ep gives us a much better look at the inverse of hextech, chemtech.

Fun Fact: Imagine Dragons appearing in Arcane is its only flaw.

Actually, Marcus told Silco that he had thrown Vi in prison without charges, and that she can rot... Silco sent money and a letter to the prison warden to have Vi Killed, but the Warden didn't understand the letter, so Vi just stayed in Stillwater Prison with daily beatings and squalor... Sad times, but at least she survived.

Great reactions so far! This viewing has been enjoyable, but I will say... it's a bit of a shame that it's so common for reactors to ignore so much context surrounding Marcus. When trying to evaluate who a person is, it's important to take a breath and examine what's going on around them--especially when their first act doesn't show them in the best light. It's my one beef with watching people watch this show. Arcane has done such a tremendous job at establishing nuance in its characters. People tend to realize that with most characters, but somehow, Marcus is the odd-man-out, despite--even at this point in the series--several notable moments in which it's been apparent that there's more than meets the eye than simply "corruption". It doesn't detract from enjoying the reactions as a whole, but that always disappointments me a bit when such carefully crafted context is ignored in favor of sticking to "first impressions".

Vi is the best character.

"He's pissed off" He's not just pissed off, he has an ego the size of a skyscraper so he's not gonna let anyone talk down to him or forget his title, remember this is the guy who signed every single page of his notes xD Jayce tend to have his heart in the right place but has a pretty big ego nonetheless.

When the former sheriff was killed because of Marcus and he now regrets it - what a piece of shit he is. When Jinx killed her friends and regrets it, but continues to kill ordinary police officers for no reason - wow she so badass and cool)) when Vi attacks with knee from behind - wow right lets goo when Sevika stabs Vi with a blade - dirty little f*er)

For the next episode take a look at jinx's tattoos. They are directly related to Vi and you might be able to tell what they are after the next episode

Even though I think this episode is one of the weakest (ep. 2 too), it's still so good. We actually get a lot of characterization of Silco this episode and I love that aspect. We learn that even though he's ruthless, he still gave Marcus money for the victim's families. He truly seemed to want to help Jinx, and he really didn't know Vi died and looks concerned/scared there. He's such a compelling villain.

Vi is the best character. But there are so many amazing characters!!! It is such a wonderful show and I really enjoyed your reactions to it! Happy Holidays Everyone! Cant wait for season 2!!

The fear of Silco saying "back from the dead??" always gets me. Like, Vi is the one thing that can undo Jinx's "baptism/brainwashing/etc" he's instilled throughout these years.
