Centerfold was THE. FIRST. VIDEO. I EVER saw in my life! I remember being TOTALLY blown away by it! I must've been like 12 or something when it came out. Then, just a few years ago, I had my kids in the car from school pickup and trying to turn down the alley to our parking lot, but had to wait for a van unloading gear into the small music venue a couple doors down from our place. A fairly common occurance, a little incobvenient, but we were used to it. When we got inside, I googled the venue to see who was playing that night, and it was PETER WOLF!!! 🤩🤯🥁

@@mamatay7 you and Stephanie Tipton have made my day. My very best friend from junior high school LOVED J. Geils Band I heard them every day for years!!! My best friend was murdered and the killer has never been caught it’s been 35 years. On a happy note… I have seen them in concert they were fun!! I have met Peter Wolf several times …. He had a vacation/weekend home where I live & he was here quite often. He would frequent the store I was working for at the time…he was very stand offish at first but much better 2nd time in & by 3rd trip in I finally said “is is ok for me to tell you I know who you are Mr. Wolf?” He started laughing and said 🤫 So thank you both for the J. @Relevant Brother, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" was so iconic that Dennis Miller made it the theme song for his HBO comedy show... Tears For Fears were part and parcel of the 80's second British invasion and caught my attention right off the bat. "Mad World" had something that caught the ear, then "Shout" and "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" they cemented their sound, and their place with American fans. I liked them at least as well as any of the British bands ((which is a lot!) and then later they came out with "Sowing The Seeds Of Love" which I have in my playlist right next to The Beatles "All You Need Is Love".. It's a great song, whatever the stupid critics ha to say at the time.. Great suggestion! S.W.

There's a sound called "gated reverb" that Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins accidentally came across when they were recording one of Gabriel's solo albums in the early 80s. It's a method of recording that gives the drums a slight distant reverb effect. Prince heard it, and insisted on using it on all his early 80s songs. Pretty soon nearly every music producers just used it as a standard for any rock or pop songs they recorded. But, in the early to mid 90s, people just stopped recording drums with gated reverb. I pops up here and there, and there was a resurgence of using it on some recent hits by Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Rihanna. I think that signature 80s sound you're talking about is rooted in that weird drum reverb that all those folks were using back then. Here is a great video on the phenomena ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bxz6jShW-3E.html.

They had two other songs that hit the Billboard Top 40 in the same year. One for the Mockingbird was their second Top 40 hit. It only peaked at #36. But their third and last Top 40 cracked the Top 10 in the fall of 1987. It called I Been in Love Before. It peaked at #9. You guys should react to that song as well.

This was written by Cutting Crew English pop rock band lead singer Nick Van Eede, who was inspired by a real relationship. Says Nick: "Yes, I cannot tell a lie. It's a song written about my girlfriend (who is actually the mother of my daughter). We got back together for one night after a year apart and I guess there were some fireworks but all the time tinged with a feeling of 'should I really be doing this?' Hence the lyric, 'I should have walked away.' 1986.

"(I Just) Died in Your Arms" is the debut single by the English pop rock band Cutting Crew, from their debut studio album, Broadcast (1986). It was first released on 25 July 1986 in the United Kingdom, and then released to the United States on 1 January 1987. The song was written by frontman Nick Van Eede, produced by Terry Brown, John Jansen and the band, and mixed at Utopia Studios in London by Tim Palmer. The power ballad[1] is the band's biggest hit, peaking at number one in the United States, Canada, Norway, and Finland, and reaching the top five in the UK, South Africa, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Officially Cutting Crew had two top 10 hits from their debut album "Broadcast" with "I Just Died In Your Arms" being a number 1 hit and "I've Been In Love Before" making it to number 9 so technically they are not a one hit wonder group, but they never had any of their songs since chart at all. @@kevinhodgson2990 That's the problem with One-hit wonders as many artists have written a hit song that overshadows the entire discography, and they get lumped in with artists with literally one hit. But Roy only has one mainstream hit, so does Jimmy Hendrix, as he was more successful in the UK. Top 40 in the hot 100 counts as a pop hit with some exceptions, such as the Scatman song, which peaked at #54 but has a long shelf life in the pop culture zeitgeist. Mexican Radio and Lily Allen's Smile are other examples.
