I actually used hydraboost for years and just switched to Vichy 89. I love the Vichy a lot more because I like the gel/liquid texture. It made my face feel more hydrated and not sticky.
JAD That’s what I started out with as well - and still sometimes use. Been mixing things up, with some products from The Ordinary lately, but it’s still, what recommend to skincare newbies as a really solid combination 👍
I use the Vichy mineral 89 and I absolutely love it. For anyone else using it you only need a single small pump of it, just a pea size. Also put it on right after cleansing when your skin is still damp because when you apply it when your skin is dry it won’t spread properly and you’ll have to use a lot to spread it on your face. It also works best when you apply it right after cleansing.
The neutrogena hydro boost really helps with my breakouts. I have bought so many over priced products and finally found that this one worked the best for me!
I have used it when my dermatologist recommended, due to my acne, to use it alongside Azelaic acid and epiduo, it is amazing and it leaves my skin feeling good.
@@NormalMcdonaldsEmployee use it am with a clean face, sunscreen afterwards. I normally put the azelaic acid after I put my toner and Vicky mineral 89, then I put the acid and sunscreen some other morning my routine is different.
I just used the vinchy mineral 89 for the first time today. I like that it didn't burn or irritate my skin like most products do. And it's been a few hours my skin still feels good. Do u have to wear a moisturizer over it? And if so does anyone know if u could apply the ordinary Squalane oil over it as an occlusive?
Same!! I recently turned 30 and really started taking care of my skin (besides the basics of sunscreen & moisturizer) about 3 years ago and I can honestly say the smile lines and my one weird forehead wrinkle has faded. I love that Dr. Dray is straight forward and doesn’t make you feel like she’s only interested in profit from talking about a product. I’m so grateful! My partner is 40, and he even started listening to my tips from her! 😃
I'm a huge fan of Vichy Mineral 89. I used it before the Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich Moisturizer and I love how the combo has worked so far. My skin looks healthy, hydrated and glowing.
Wow you were way ahead of other dermatologist on RU-vid to review this! They’re barely doing videos on this product now, while you did yours a year ago. Btw...just started using Vichy and I’m loooooving it. It feels so good on the skin and give a beautiful glow. I couldn’t handle the Hydroboost one...it broke me out. It felt good on the skin, but clearly my skin didn’t not like it at all.
Mineral 89 leaves my skin feeling soo soft like baby skin , i actually see some improvement on a fine line i had on my forehead as well, i am very committed to that product
I love the Vichy mineral 89, thanks to you. I know its expensive but it works for me. I only use a pump of this, so i know it will last me. Thanks to you my skin has improved so much. I was getting contact dermatitis all the time. I went to the dermatologist and an allergy doctor, none of which could tell me what the cause was. I felt so defeated. So what I did next was take your advice and went fragrance free. My skin has improved so much. Thanks Dr. Dray😀
Regarding the breaking out from the gel cream, I think it’s probably the “wax” ingredients in the cream. Anything with any sort of “wax” whether it’s beeswax, or isoparrafin wax or microcrystalline cellulose or ceresin or any sort of those waxes, I break out. Petrolatum is perfect for me for some reason so the body lotion is safe, Vaseline is a life saver for me whereas the cerave healing ointment and aquaphor products severely break me out. Likewise almost all cream bronzer or blush products break me out because they all use some sort of wax in their bases. Dimethicone on the other hand absolutely never breaks me out, so I would hypothesize the wax ingredients are the culprit on this moisturizer breaking people out. Thanks for ur videos, I’m def not a doctor but I am a girl whose tried it all over the years and researched and ruled out ingredients that irritate my skin and am finally getting a handle on my acne lol
I looove the Vichy serum! I have super dry skin from using retin a and I use this in the am under moisturizer and at night before retin a. It’s been a savior for my skin!
I love the Vichy Mineral 89 over the Neutrogena (unscented) Hydroboost moisturizer. The Neutrogena gives my skin the burning sensation and the Vichy doesn’t. I don’t mind following up with an occlusive moisturizer.
Sadly the hydroboost was irritating for me. I used it like Dr. D used it in her pm tretinoin routine, immediately after cleansing, under a cerave pm moisturizer, wait 30 min then tretinoin. My derm and I figured out it was actually blocking moisture from reaching my skin, leading me to tolerate tret very poorly. I removed it from my routine altogether and now my skin is practically flawless and tolerating much better. Funny how differently individual skin reacts to things 🤍
VeganCowgirl I use tretinoin at night without anything else a few nights a week then load up on other moisturizers or occlusive products on the subsequent nights and during the day. I find tretinoin works on its own best full strength, nothing underneath it or on top. :)
Same! Marlena Stell turned me on to it last summer. I use it in my am routine as it works very well with makeup products. I use the CeraVe HA in my pm routine.
After I ran out my neutrogena hydro boost face gel, I started using the body gel cream, unscented, on my face and thankfully haven't experienced any breaking out or any issue. I could dare to say it works the same as the face gel just way cheaper. I got mine buy one get one 50% and used a coupon on top of that 😁😁
Thank you for another great review. You changed my skincare. I now use Vichy 89 (neutrogena was too heavy for me) + LRP + tretinoin at night and Vichy + LRP or CeRaVe (I rotate them, but find LRP to be easier on my skin) + Sunscreen in the morning. The one thing I was unable to drop is vitamin C serum. I do notice that I tend to get sun spots (despite three layers of sunscreen [zinc + colorscience + drunk elephant tinted instead of make up)] w/out vitamin C serum. But, you helped me to stop chasing every new cream (and a lot of them hugely pricey and equally disappointing). Thank you!
Completely agree, love the neutrogena body cream texture more than the face gel cream but both work great! The vichy is too expensive to only be a booster. Thank you for all you do, I wear sunscreen every day now!!!
I loved Vichy, but it wasn't hydrating enough when I was going throw my extreme dehydrated skin phase from acids. I got Rovectin's serum just because I saw Korean RU-vidrs raving about it. Oh my goodness. It's 100x more moisturizing than the Vichy. It's super thick, so it can be applied like a serum if you're just using your hands. I love it so much.
Another difference between these products is that the volcanic water in Vichy is very mineral rich, with potassium in particular, which may helpful with skin conditions like rosacea. Hyaluronic acid only provides temporary benefits, so it should always be followed up with a more occlusive moisturizer. I prefer the Vichy because it has no silicone and therefore doesn't cause my CC cream to pill. I find the Vichy to be a less sticky formulation on my mature skin also. I received a free sample of the Vichy and vastly preferred it to The Ordinary HA that I had been using.
Hi Dr Dray, could you please make a video about hand sanitizing gels, liquids, foams and tissues (in situations when we do not have access to soap and water)? It would be very helpful in this time of pandemics. Many thanks!
Happy Monday! I’ve used Vichy Mineral 89 and will buy when on sale. Currently using the Neutrogena Hydroboost FF and is working well for me . I actually use it under a moisturizer.
I was curious about the Vichy serum but the price kept me from jumping on it. I do love the Neutrogena gel cream and layer it under the CeraVe moisturizing cream. I also use the Hydro Boost body cream from the neck down, never thought to use it on the face too. Will have to give that a try. :-) It's my go-to body lotion during the summer because it has a nice cooling effect when I apply it to wet/damp skin. :-)
helpfulnatural the price stopped you for the Vichy serum? It’s one of the cheapest serums I ever came across. Invest in your skin, it’s the only skin you will ever have.
I agree it’s too expensive. And I think it’s too expensive for what it did for my skin. I tried the Vichy 89 that I picked up in Europe and I wasn’t a fan! It was too runny and watery. It didn’t do anything for me. I would definitely not repurchase it . However, I LOVE 💙 Neutrogena fragrance-free HydroBoost products and have kept repurchasing them and will continue to do so. Like you, I loved applying HydroBoost in the summer. There’s no need to be spendy on skin care since the drugstore offers many great options. $$$$ does not equal superior skin care.
I'm on my second bottle of the Vichy. I use it just as you suggested ... only a small amount on fingertip around eyes, on damp skin, after my vitamin c serum but before my moisturizer. I like the consistency and it feels soothing. I feel that it's been helping with fine lines, but most of us use so many different products, that it's really hard to determine what is effective and what is not. If you prefer the Neutrogena hydro boost better though, I'd be crazy not to give it a try next.
You are supposed to layer products according to when I was in school, you use the thinnest products first and work to the thickest, put them on in that order. Like any sprays first, tgem serums, then moisturizers and other treatments that are same thickness and texture. They said if you put the liquid it serums on top of something thicker like moisturizers, it can’t sink in bc thicker stuff causes a barrier. Vitamin c should probably be used after cleansing. That’s what I do with the skinceuticals C+E with 😢ferulic acid, it’s called a serum, but it’s liquid🥲. Also learned that active products should go on clean skin like acids, aha, glycolic, salicylic, bha, and vitamin c. The ingredients like hyaluronic acid is not an active acid, meaning it doesn’t actually exfoliate or anything, just helps with moisturizing
I've been using the hydroboost body lotion on my face for the past few months and it's been working very well for my skin. It's really such a great value compared to the face cream. I got mine about 4 months ago and I still have plenty left. It's only $8 at Target and I love how it comes with a pump unlike the face one. I wouldn't say it's an exact dupe for the face cream, but with the price, the amount of product you get, and with how well it retains moisture on the skin, I don't see myself using the face one any time soon. Couldn't be happier they came out with this product because the thought of having to repurchase that relatively expensive face cream every 1 1/2 to 2 months did worry me.
I was just watching your Walgreens video yesterday while at Walgreens (with headphones on) 😂 and I was hoping you would do a video over this! Thank you!!
Came to see your review, Dr Dray! I’m 36 and new to skincare and have been enjoying your thoughtful and well spoken insight! You’ve helped me to learn so much! I bought the travel size to try it out and I’m just about finished it. I was considering repurchasing but was hesitant to splurge on the full size. On a whim I decided to check out my local TJ Maxx and then had the full size for 20. I enjoy layering it with my hada labo moist lotion, especially after I use an aha or bha product, just for the extra moisture. (Acne, melasma, combo skin, pih, wearing a mask for 8 plus hours a day) thank you for sharing your wisdom! You’re helping me learn to love my skin!
1. Hada labo face lotion 2. Neutrogena gel cream 3. Cerave I tryed both Neutrogena face gel-cream and the body one. I find the one for body is less "runnier/liquid" than the face. I finished the face and now using the body one on my face. Didn't notice any difference 🤷.
Happy monday! Here in Quebec Vichy 89 costs about fifty dollars (CD) and Neutrogena hydroboost costs twenty dollars (CD). I think I will continue with Neutrogena hydroboost! I have tested Neutrogena and I like it very much. I still have the Deep Dive product that I like a lot but I think I will continue with Neutrogena. I can find Neutrogena product easily compared to Deep Dive that I have to buy on the web.
omg i JUST bought the vichy one today! you read my mind dr dray. I think the price point is maybe a bit much but I got it with a discount for 15 euros (the 50ml one), which i find quite acceptable.
I’ve tried the Neutrogena Hydro Boost and experienced immediate irritation. Unfortunately, this seems true of many Neutrogena products, including sunscreen, although I don’t consider my skin to be ultra sensitive. I’ve had much better luck with a separate HA serum and have used both Paula’s Choice and The Ordinary, topped with an occlusive moisturizer. I have oily skin, rare breakouts, but showing signs of light wrinkles.
The neutrogena one is def better. And imo, I like the one with fragrance better. I like it’s consistency better. The body gel is also great to use indeed, but is def more of a lotion texture so if you plan on swapping it out for the body gel just keep that in mind (but the ingredients are like 75% the same)
I love the vichey 89 booster I use it as a serum because I thought that is what it was I am using the PTR water drench serum rite now but I like the vichey better do you use your other serums first then the hydrologic acid then moisterizer that's how I do it 1 wash face 2 cosrx snail essence 3 peach and Lilly glass serum 4 PTR water drench serum 5 FAB oil free moisterizer .
Thanks, Dr. Dray. Before I saw this video I was already using the Vichy 89 Mineral stuff after I washed my face with Cerave cleanser. Then I put Cerave Moisturizer on my face last. It works great! My skin glows and is well moisturized. You confirmed what I’ve been experiencing in my skincare routine. :-)
The Vichy is a holy grail for me. I have super dry, acne-prone and sensitive skin and I live in a somewhat dry climate (LA). I use it under Cerave and will cover the driest patches with Aquaphor. I get really flaky, irritated dry patches in the colder months and when I started using the Vichy booster on those patches, they disappeared overnight. Nothing else works as well for me.
that hydroboost is everything. cleanse with cerave, a few drops of the hada labo lotion, then hydroboost, then cerave body lotion over it. dr dray has saved me $1000's!
Vichy cream is the best; I believe I have used everything to repair my the skin barrier. I used over 18 different products that said it was for repair the skin barrier, nothing helped me until I came across Vichy’s Aqualia Thermal cream; it saved my irritated skin; I have gone through 6 jars now; not changing ever. Love it!
My favorite hyaluronic acid products are from PIPING ROCK. I love both their serum and their Hydro Gel gel-cream. Also, their Royal Jelly & Manuka Honey cream is the only moisturizer that my eczema-prone skin can handle. (Cerave moisturizers make my pores scream... no, really. My skin can’t take it.) The best thing about Piping Rock is that their products are very low-priced. Most of the creams are 4 ounces, but usually less than $10! And they have the best sales!
Target has a beauty box out rite now for 7$ it is called dermatologist recommend and its 7$ online it has the Vichy 89 the Vichy eye and a moisterizer than a few cervae products face wash moisterizers and a la roch posay product it looks good to try and only 7$ that way you can see if you like the products without spending money on full price😘
I have oily skin combo skin and I’m 13 I was wondering if my skin care routine is good? 1:CeraVe foaming facial cleanser 2: Vichy mineral 89(i put on a damp face) 3: CeraVe moisturizing lotion 4: la roche posay Shaka fluid spf 50 (in the morning only) what do you think?
I’m no expert, but it sounds perfect! Cleanse, moisturize & protect. I was definitely scrubbing salt, lemons and tomatoes on my face at 13, so you’re doing amazing.
It is really gr8. Since u hv oily skin, the products u r using are pretty great. I would recommend only to use another sunscreen like the purito centella unscented spf 50 or the Neutrogena dry touch spf 50. N u can use a lip balm , if u want. *but still, the la roche posay one is fine too. Again, gr8 skincare routine at 13.
personally i dont really enjoy VICHY products. the 89 serum balls up so much on my face. another cream i tried has strong fragrance while not smelling good.
I love the Neutrogena, but the fragrance kills me. What I have been using loyally the past year is the e-derma day cream. It’s so rich and hydrating and the herbally fragrance doesn’t trigger my scent allergy.
Hi Dr Dray,I'm in my late 40's, can you please do a video on what you advise your mom to use for maturing skin,I enjoy all your vlogs on outings with her😊
Can I ask all you ladies your age please? I’m 64, and too many comments are varied, but age makes a difference, as well as climate. It will help me choose. Thanks family!
I've been using the Vichy one for a few months and I absolutely love it ❤️ I just bought the Neutrogena one to test after my Vichy runs out. I hope it works just as well for me because it's a lot cheaper
In my opinion, I’ve tried all the above mentioned by Dr. Dray & Hado Labo was the clear winner, then Neutrogena, Vichy 89 came in last, in terms of results.
What I like about Mineral 89 is that it doesn't gives me the feeling of having a film over my face, I like to mix it up with The ordinary L-ascorbic acid powder, and apply it just when I get of the shower and after that I use my moisturizer and my sunscreen to finish my morning rutine.
I have used all 3 lol. I prefer the vichy once, since some days the neutrogena products make me feel a light burn and some days it's ok. Also, Dr. Day can you talk about what can be used for those lovely tech neck lines. Thank you
What is special about the Neutrogena hydroboost? Most of the ingredients are silicone and Hyaluronic acid is listed toward the end. I'm really curious as to why it would be beneficial.
Thank you for the video and clearing those things up, the neutrogena was recommended to me and i ordered some yesterday, in Australia it comes in a twin pack of day & night cream for $AU24 (they are $AU17 to purchase seperately). I feel more confident about my purchase now. Our local beauty store sells a similar product for $AU75, so i was happy to find the 2 pack 😊
I recently ran out of my Neutragena hyaluronic acid gel cream, and decided to just use Neutrogena Hydroboost overnight hydration cream under Ceramedx Natural Ceramide lotion. Loving it so far!
Vichy minereal 89 is too expensive for what it is. I prefer my hada labo. mineral 89 peels on me like crazy even on it's own, not to mention under other products
Well for exapmle I live in Europe, and it's 20 euros for 50 ml for mineral 89 and 12 for Neutrogena one. I use up the Vichy in 3 weeks and Neutrogena or the Hada labo one can last me more than 2 months
Oh I see. In Mexico I buy the mineral 89 in around 15€ and the Neutrogena one I haven't really bought it because I haven't found the fragrance free version where I live :/
@@dzanab3247 Two months?? Mine lasted over six months lol you only need a tiny amount as Dr. Drey said. No way would you go through it in two months using a pea size amount even twice a day.
I love the texture of Vichy 89. I use it after toning and essence under the cerave moisturizing cream( for the body) that way I introduce occlusives that way.
HI LOVELY DR DRAY I HAVE A QUESTION, HOW COME THERE IS NO ONE PRODUCT WITH ALL THE GOOD STUFF SUCH AS HONEY, LICORICE ROOT, MARINE EXTRACTS, ETC, IS THAT POSSIBLE, WHY HASNT IT BEEN DONE YET?
Matthew Portillo not everyone can use a product like that. Also too many ingredients can lead to irritation the more you use the product. Lastly companies don’t want to just make one product for their line but many as to make people buy more.
As others have said.... tolerance. Burt’s bees has a lot of the good ingredients, sometimes up to 20 oils. Unfortunately it takes 1 allergy for the product to ruin it for you. 🙁
Great info, Dr. Dray! Question: Would applying a moisturizing sunscreen, after the hyaluronic acid serum, be sufficient as an occlusive instead of a regular moisturizer?
I use Neutrogena cleanser for dry skin (morning) albolene (at night) then neutrogena hyaluronic cream gel fragrance free over damp skin then top with Cereve moisturizing cream. I recently have added to use Neutrogena Deep Wrinkle Repair cream as well.
UK people! Boots is having a sale on Neutrogena Hydro Boost at the moment. Dr Dray you mentioned Hado Labo, the link takes me to the white bottle. I have the gold premium, does that work the same? P.s. You've changed me for the better! I love that you are so honest, suggest cheaper products and continue to debunk all of that Influencer stuff 💜
I'm 41 years old, till few months ago without any special care my skin was just fine, but maybe 6 months ago my pores started to be visible. I picked hydroboost cause it has hyaluron in it and my skin loves it. Pores are gone and my skin is back in shape, its even better, my skin looked like this 5-6 years ago. And i only have the cleanser and the gel. I bought the cleanser last year august, still have some in the bottle and i use it every day.
To me personally, vichy mineral 89 does a better job compared to neutrogina. Hydroboost makes my face feel very heavy and greasy after use, especially since I have naturally oily skin already. And I don’t mind using an extra moisturizer at the end of my skincare (I use either la roche posay cicaplast mostly during winter months or cerave lotion in warmer months due it feels lighter). A little bit gets me a long way (i can get away with using 2 pumps) and I don’t find myself having to purchase it every month or something. Deffinetly has been one of my favorite serum/booster for a long time now. When it comes to my pores, again due to my skin complex, I yet again feel like mineral 89 evens it out and gets rid of “skin texture” look before I apply make up. Personal opinion, no skin is the same. But if you deal with neutrogina hydroboost feling too “cakey” maybe give vichy a try.
I don't know why I continue trying different products from vichy. Other brands work better on my skin.. Vichy is SO EXPENSIVE and it's not quite worth it.. Mineral 89 burns my skin and ittirates it.. But when I apply it under a mosturizer it becomes better but not as I wanted.. I have a sesnsitive & combination skin..
The hydroboost stings my skin so thanks for mentioning that. I’ve found that applying it to the face with slightly more water on it than just damp, for some reason, keeps it from stinging.
Neutrogena is much better for me than Vichy serum. Vichy goes out faster and when i apply it, i dont feel it does anything. While N does feels good and goes fine with my spf over it :)
I feel like comparing vichy Serum to the neutrogena GEL CREAM isn't entirely right. You coule have compared it to neutrogena hydro boost serum that comes in a pump to and is supposed to be the equivalent in terms of texture and all the rest
I currently use the neutrogena face gel under cerave lotion. Is the Hydro Boost body from neutrogena a good simplification for the two products? Thanks so much for doing what you do!
because of u dr dray i’m using hydro boost and have been using cerave products for a couple years now and love them both this is why i take ur word on products
I had very high expectations about vichy but didn't work at all...after moisturizer, it built a weird covering that started detaching during the day :(
Extremely difference if you have sensitive skin. Neutrogen hydraboost irritates my skin and hurt my skin so badly. Afterwards, my skin is irritated red and painful. With Vichy nothing but hydrated. So Neutrogena hell no!!!
Personally, Hada labo and cevera is the best combination for my night time routine! Elata MD sunscreen and coloresceince 3 in 1 total eye is the best for the morning!
I recently bought the hydro boost body and apply on my face and body. I have noticed a bit more flush in my face skin since incorporating to my skin care. I am acne prone and very sensitive. I can’t say 100% it’s the hydro boost causing the flush but I have my suspicions lol. I am going to discontinue on my face but I might consider the other product you mentioned. I will continue to use the hydro boost on my body because so far so good there and I don’t want to waste!
jennifer izett I always test stuff like that, by applying the product to just half my face. That way, I can be sure about who the culprit is (I have a similar problem with many sunscreens. The reaction isn’t dramatic...but it’s there. Sometimes redness, sometimes acne bumps...it’s so hard,to be sure about cause and effect sometimes!
Why would the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel cause my skin to burn like fire when I apply it? There must be a ingredient that my skin reacts too. Any ideas?
vichy is better, its a serum not a mousitrizer so how do you compare it to a moisturizer? also the neutropenia has perfume in it and it can make the skin more greasy if used after shower for some reason but the Vichy one is so cooling
My face loves the Neutrogena Hydro boost, I’m not prone to acne or pimples but I have dry skin, it really helps eliminate fine lines. It does leave a filmy texture so I use it at night. But if you’re feeling dried out and it doesn’t irritate you it’s a great moisturizer for certain skin types. It’s like a drink of water for your face. Hyaluronic acid products practically destroyed my face. Vichy is nice texture but even though it says fragrance free I sneezed time after time after putting it on.
Hey Dr D 👋🏽 Random question: how do you feel about “Mica” in products? I noticed a lot of products use it. I’m a little afraid of the thought of it going into my pores & stuff because I have extremely sensitive/acne prone skin, but what do you think of it?
