Have you ever been Catfished or Romance Scammed?

I have to say it was bizarrely refreshing to see a 50-something man pursuing what he thought was a normal looking 50-something woman. Usually the men in these episodes are "falling" for 19-year-old Instagram models.

I love how the scammers pretend that they are wealthy and then two beats later ask to borrow money.

I notice a lot of the scam victims who are divorced or widowed start dating again VERY quickly, which makes them more vulnerable to scammers. Slow down and let yourself heal first, people!

This is the only victim that I actually felt sad for. He seems genuine and he wasn’t going for someone half his age or way out of his league.

If she can not spell "precious", she is no business woman.

Why on Earth would "she" send a stranger a copy of her ID and bank statement? Normal people would NEVER do this.

One of the very few male victims I genuinely feel bad for. He seems like a solid guy, had someone he loved who basically forgot who he was....went after a woman that could feasibly be with him, just all around a decent seeming dude. Sucks he got scammed but good on him for making things right with the people he borrowed money from. Wish him the best.

How could a partner be so detached that they could not see the mental decline of their partner . Stage 3 dementia is so far advanced that it would be impossible to mask.

Next time I’m at the DMV I’m going to turn, and look back over my shoulder, for my glam license pic. 😂

NO. If they show you a bank account full of money, why the HELL do they need money from YOU? NO WEALTHY PERSON PERSON KEEPS ALL OF THEIR MONEY IN ONE BANK ACCOUNT. I’m just middle class, and even I have multiple accounts! And credit cards? She’s got hundreds of thousands of dollars, a world traveling business woman, but she doesn’t have a credit card? She can only get money from a total stranger she met online? THINK.

Man it’s so hard having someone in your family with Alzheimer’s. I saw my grandmother from start to end and took care of her for about 5 years until she needed 24/7 care. Broke my heart seeing her as she got worse. We had a lot of good memories though and that’s what I cherish so so much.

This guy really seems like a nice person. He’s not cringy like so many others. I pray that he finds true love.♥️

I feel bad that he doesn't realise the chances are that his ex didnt fall out of love with him but was drastically changed by dementia. It would be good for his sake if a counselor or medical professional could explain this to him.

This is the first person you’ve covered who realistically looks like he could anticipate dating someone who looked like the catfish. Like they are in the same age range and she looks like she would actually talk to him in real life.

I totally disagree that this has to do with age or online dating. I am 66, and I do online dating occasionally. At one point this guy that I was communicating with asked for 80.00 dollars after just two weeks of texting --- and my response was..."Do I have stupid written on my forehead? He immediately hung up the phone and never heard from him again, and of course he deleted his profile. So it has nothing to do with age or online dating...it is called being foolish. Ladies, if the guy it's too young and handsome...most likely it is a fake. Same thing applies for the Gentlemen. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true 98% of the time it is not. Everyone, stop giving your money away to scumbags...think about your future instead.

Romance Scammer Checklist: 1. He or she is out of your league 2. He or she started asking for money $$$ 3. He or she wants gift cards instead of real / actual gifts 4. He or she sends his or her Identification Cards (or other legal documents as proof of legitimacy without being asked) 5. He or she always has a back story with drama and need urgent financial assistance 6. He or she asks money for food 7. He or she asks if you’ve eaten 8. He or she calls you King/Queen, Dear, Hunny, and very poetic (not to mention confesses love early on) 9. He or she won't video chat often (mostly due to a bad internet connection) and will usually refuse to answer phone calls 10. This Man had no common sense. He knew there was something that didn't sound right. Yet he still sent her money.

A Driver's license would never have a photo of someone posing, that would have been rejected instantly. it's just as rigourous as a passport when it comes to a photo.

So I went down the rabbit hole 😂 I've been watching these videos all day, and I just can't wrap my head around this. How do these people get dooped out of THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS from these scammers? I guess love and lonliness can make you do crazy things, but I have a feeling we'll see fewer cases like this as time goes on. Most people my age or younger know better than to believe someone who can't video chat, or Skype, zoom, SOMETHING! At least I hope so.

Sometimes I think the chance to run into a scammer at a dating site is 90% when you are over a certain age. 🙄 It's already hard for us to meet new people and these stupid 💩 make it so much harder.

I exchanged phone numbers with this guy and he kept calling me darling and baby so I blocked him because his language seemed like a scammer

2:27 Wanted to take the conversation off the site 🚩 3:44 Cheesy poems copypasted from a valentines day card site 🚩 4:00 They soon and suddenly have to travel abroad 🚩 4:06 Mentions early on that they have a job where they make a lot of money. 🚩 4:10 Bad spelling. 🚩 4:24 Repeating "Babe" instead of the name (easier so they don't happen to say one of the other victim's names) 🚩 4:50 Showing you a bank account. 🚩 4:59 Suddenly need a favor. 🚩 5:14 $1000 for a covid test... 🚩 5:38 Continues to need more and more money 🚩 10:09 "Video call" that last a few seconds= Them "dubbing" an old video. 🚩 11:10 Photoshopped driver's licence. 🚩

We found it refreshing to see a middle-aged man seeking middle-aged women and not women half his age. And we found it refreshing to see him do his own due diligence.

These people are not "BEING CATFISHED." They willingly take the bait, even f*ing over their your family to feed their own ego. THEY did this to themselves.

You seem like such a nice guy and you’re good looking…I’m sure you’ll find someone who loves and appreciates you and doesn’t need money. I hope you find happiness! By now I've watched at least 18 of these stories. What seems to be a common thing to me is that all these people have crazy eyes.

They should make a dating site just for people who got scammed and broken hearted.

I don't know about this whole story. Perhaps the wife did have dementia, and perhaps it did lead her to becoming confused or forgetting things to where she would call the cops for some reason. However, the way he states it, is that just after 22 years, my wife called the cops and had me escorted out. That sounds and seems fishy. I'm hoping I'm wrong, but there is probably a backdrop of mistreatment or abuse in the relationship from one or both sides. Edit: In regards to my first point, the fact that he hasn't been in contact with his family for 20 years is pretty telling. For that family to still lend him money, they must be very good family, and he probably did something to lose their favor. The people in these stories are probably not the best kind of people. That is so sad. Man, these people are definitely not the brightest either. There are so many red flags... Do they really have the self-confidence that these rich and good-looking people will actually love them and move that fast with them lol? Come on, we are not living in fairy tales. It's either great self-confidence, or complete unfounded vanity. Also, all the websites these scammers are sending are made with simple HTML, CSS, and possibly Javascript. They are very amateur websites at best, and any poking around on the site would reveal as much. STOP BEING SO DESPERATE PEOPLE!

This man was a scammer with his own family. He fell for a romance scammer and defrauded his own family while at the same time saying he felt nothing for them.

Crazy most people wouldn’t give money 💴 or do business with complete strangers on the streets, yet they’d do that for a stranger online. If you’re willing to give money 💰 to stranger online, a person who you’ve never seen or even vetted there’s an issue.

I can't feel sorry for this guy, shortly after divorce finalized wife diagnosed with stage 4 dementia?? Think he was looking for the exit and fell down a mine shaft. How can you feel for someone who defrauds their own family to give to a grifter. And such a believable grifter too. Female entrepreneur and metallurgist opens up her six figure bank account to a stranger on line for a look-see and suddenly needs money. Sheesh!

I swear if someone starts hitting you up for money. Just tell them you will connect them with your financial manager. And can request with proper documentation and vetting. They will ghost you faster than Casper in a haunted house.

In the text message, it was typed "precise stones," which he misread as precious stones. That would have been one of the first red flags. I feel bad for this guy because he suffered a huge loss. Give him a lot of credit he came to terms with the scam instead of staying in denial. Wish him the best.

His wife felt she needed a police escort to safely get out of the house. OK, maybe she was over-reacting, but, that's not a good sign.

Thank you for sharing this. This is definitely another example of a vulnerable person who easily fell for a romance scam. The victim is usually a middle-aged or older woman, but this was a good example that men are just as vulnerable as women. The best thing to do if one loses one’s partner through death or divorce/breakup (especially if one didn’t initiate it) is to get counseling to learn how to cope with the loss and how to be content in one’s own company.

Guys, if someone calls you " BABE" and " HONEY" from the beginning- it's a SCAM! If no FaceTime calls- it's a SCAM! If someone not from your city- probably, it's a scam.

Finally a victim I actually feel truly sorry for :( He was completely genuine as well as respectful. He's a nice looking and sweet guy and I hope he finds some happiness.

I have encountered many people who look like scammers on line and can tell the difference. First a genuine person asks you about something in your profile and shares information about themselves because they are curious to know you and want you to know them. They don't start with lovey dovey lines or emojis or romantic lines from the start. Beware those who act romantic fast without knowing you beyond your profile at all. Second a genuine person will never, ever, ever ask you for money. Why would you want to date someone who wants money all the time anyway, especially large amounts of money? I'm desperate to find love myself, but until I find that someone, I'm happy with my own company because I will never betray myself.
