He was an absolute trooper to go through all of that mess. By the time he hit the tree line, we hams were calling in reports of hail accumulating on the road and sight distance bad enough to shorten the course.

Probably because he doesn't wanna, like, you know, die? losing traction is definitely a thing, especially on "soft, dry-weather...rallycross tires" in the pouring rain.
Great question. Early on is a lot of part throttle. The road was cold, and so were the tires, making the car hop on WOT. Didnt have much of a chance to get heat into them. Once the ice hit the road any severe throttle would get the car to step out. Had to keep the throttle gods happy. This whole run was my first ever run with this cars setup in the wet and cold. What a place to find limits...
