I agree with your review. There is still hope, though. Oh and afaik: The campaigns are not restricted until you play through the US Campaign, I once read (could be wrong ofc) they will be added later.
unfortunately still plenty of game-breaking bugs in it more than a year after release, among the most annoying ones: plane positions randomly change when switching between strategic map and 3D combat, especially during massive raids, the meat of this game; bases dont get upgraded whilst in combat mode; unrelialable saves (mainly due to the aerial bug); + crashing, freezing, sometimes planes fly under the sea, sometimes ships sail through the land (and get trapped in it).. A fun game with potential and overall a great job by such a small team, but it badly needs a lot of fixes; not worth the 34 quid (yet)
After several years of hoping this title would be made into a decent game, I have always held off because the bugs far outweighed my tolerance to shell out cash for incomplete products. And so I have still not bitten the buy button on this title. Great review, I would love to see more like this. You would be a trusted source to come to for purchasing advice.
One thing though, as far as I know the Japanese and British/ANZAC campaign is not locked behind finishing the american campaign. Those two campaigns are not yet implemented in the game.
One bug you missed which people (including me) have been experiencing: Ships spontaneously exploding despite not taking damage. And another: Planes launching from locations on the map where their host airfields and carriers aren't. This game needs serious patches (and some re-balancing) to be good, along with some UI changes.
Great review, I'll toss this on my Discord because it's worth viewing. I've been poking around with this title myself. What resolution are you playing at, 1920x1080? I was using 1440p and my visuals had lots of anomalies (depth of field in particular I had to turn off).
Thanks! I'm playing at 4k and haven't had any issues with the graphics, but the UI is comically small. Some people said they were able to make it scale properly by editing the water quality, but no luck for me so far.
I played this game at 1440p max settings. My GTX 1080ti and my 6th gen i7 were running at 70 Celsius. I can run War Thunder, World of Warships, WoT, WoWP, Far Cry 5, and GTA V at max and my temps rarely go above 60 Celsius.
Thanks for the great review. I like your style and the steam ding sound even though I thought it was the game locking up or the like 😁 I can see that they have been fixing a lot and the Japanese campaign is available. Maybe do a follow up review a long the road?
Great review. I am still on the fence about buying, at least for now. It seems there have been several patches since this review was posted. Can anyone say whether or which bugs have been fixed?
This review is excellent. I will say that the game is nowhere near as buggy now than it was last year. It seems to flow very well with seamless transfer between scenarios and the map. The game really does seem like it's half of a full game with a huge lack of information. The first VAS had images and ship info available in the skirmish when setting up while this one does not.
Worth knowing is that the game has been patched and updated a great deal since the review, the latest update is from 2020-08-17, so it's still being worked on by the devs.
Thanks for this review. It's too bad the game came out like this, I was planning to buy it day 1 but this is not an option anymore. The first game wasn't perfect but it seemed more finished than this one. I sure hope the devs finish VaSP, but I won't hold my breath.
I've been on the forums some and they act like they will fix things. There have been two updates since release but it's still FAR from ok. I'm holding out that they'll get it done though. Just keep an eye on it and pick it up when it's ready.
A year later and I've just bought the game. Still a few lingering bugs, but much improved over what it was at initial release. Not disappointed in my purchase. Latest version as of this comment v1.71
There are two more naval games in the same vein coming soon: Task Force Admiral, and War on the Sea. Someone in the comments mentioned them and they look to have potential.
This was another game I bought and was disappointed with. Was hoping more for a deeper fighting Flattops like online game with graphical depictions of the combat, but it's buggy as hell and the AI really sucks and some of the other points you mentioned are also among the reasons I found this game a waste of time and money. I guess I'll just have to wait until this game hits the market within the next 18-24 months,Task Force Admiral ru-vid.com/show-UCv_rxX8PnLOVt77K3FaIPnw to get what I'm looking for in a war in the Pacific type game. Really enjoy your videos and reviews and hope to see more in the future.
