Lisa Simone, daughter of famed American singer Nina Simone, tells FRANCE 24 "I’ll always be the 'daughter of' but I have my own identity." She started out in the US air force but, seduced by her mother's music from an early age, she soon found herself performing in musicals on the Broadway stage. After travelling the world she now lives in France where she's pursuing her own singing career. Lisa Simone speaks to Eve Jackson about her second solo album, "My World", and Nina Simone's legacy.

There are always some, who just don't get it. This is about Lisa Simone and her becoming independent from her mamas herritage of songs and writing her own. No denial Nina Simone was a great artist and activist. We all love and admire her. But just this once, let Lisa Simone be a fantastic Artist and a loving mother. Don't reduce her to the daughter of famous Nina Simone forever. It' s not fair.

I'm love with Lisa, with her lightness, her voice, history, performances and choices. She is great to her generation and conquered the incredible feat of finding a place in my heart next to her mother's podium.

Aww I finally watched this clip after it being in my feed repeatedly. Lisa has a humility that is very touching. And I wanted 2cry the entire video. Although her smile is bright, there in her heart and physic bears a lot of hurt. She was not fully honest...but she continues to strive to battle through the pain...and she is winning.

Nina Simone could only dream of the being the artist and singer that Lisa has become. Nina Simone was brilliant and mad, both at the same time. Where there was not much clarity, Lisa understands completly the world in which we live.
