After talking with a few of the R/S CCIEs at my company, I fully believe the CCIE is completely different than it used to be. I've been describing the old CCIE as a foot wide and a mile deep whereas the new one is the exact opposite. I took my first attempt on Feb 23rd and was completely shocked at how little was on the exam vs the blueprint. In my personal opinion, these are the most important pieces of the exam: Understanding the small details as Jeremiah said (prefix suppression, router-id selection, etc) Understanding what you NEED to know vs what you DO NOT NEED to know. (I personally felt like 60% of the blueprint is on the exam) Finally, being able to look at existing configurations of tasks and quickly create scripts for other devices. One thing most people don't point out, is that when they specify a task, it may/may not already be done on some devices. And if its already there, it may need to be tweaked or changed but it can be a HUGE time saver in the exam. (speed, speed, speed)

Good point. For me it seemed like the the more difficult tasks (i.e. those taks that require an engineer to remember the many different pieces that make for a working config) already had most of the config somewhere else in the lab for you to use as an example. It might not be working correctly, so you still need to know it. But it's like they give you lots of little hints to help you out.

Thanks Jeremiah, you're the best! I was concerned that they might give us complex subnets that we have to summarize bit by bit...

Hey Jeremiah, love your videos. I watched your video on ENARSI and thought it was very informative. Did you every use something like gns3 eve-ng or cml? Or did you strictly just focus on the CBT nuggets labs. I just dont want to spend more money then I need to. Thanks

That was several years ago and a LOT has happened since then, so I don't clearly remember. But, as I recall, I only used the Boson NetSim tool. I'm pretty sure I covered all my study tools in that video. Based on what I know now I'd recommend a different approach. If you really want to learn the material inside and out, I would pick up the book: CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure Foundation, 2nd Edition by Narbik Kocharians. When you purchase that book you get, as a digital download, Narbik's lab guide with EVE-NG topologies. It is AMAZING! Use the ENARSI blueprint to determine which of the labs you should do. The thing about Narbik's lab guide is that it's the most comprehensive teaching tool I've ever used. His labs are so well designed that you will learn the protocols and technologies inside and out. (That's true for the traditional route / switch material. The Software Defined material in that book is kinda crap.) The topologies are usually just 3 - 5 devices, so you don't really need a dedicated server to run EVE-NG. You should be able to run it on your PC (in a VM) depending on how beefy your computer is.

@@jeremiahwolfe Thank you, I also had one more question as I am not very familiar with EVE-NG? I was talking with some guys on discord and they said i need access to images for eve-ng to be useful. Narbiks lab already has images and everything right or will I need to download and install those
@jeremiahwolfe
@jeremiahwolfe 4 месяца назад
@@zuavy6391 Narbik's book comes with supplementary files you download from Cisco Press. These files contain a pdf workbook. (Don't bother with the actual book, only use the downloaded workbook.) And EVE-NG topology files that you can import into your EVE-NG server. The topology files tell EVE how to set up the lab, but they DO NOT contain images. You must provide the images. You can purchase Cisco Modeling Labs (CML) then extract the images from there to load onto EVE. This is pseudo legal...but not really. Or you can Google for the images and download them. Narbik's labs use: Cisco IOL Images. Cisco vIOS Router Images. Cisco vIOS Switch Images. Cisco CSR 1000v Images. He generally uses the smallest footprint images that support the features needed in each lab. The CSR images are pretty resource heavy, but he only uses them in a few labs. The lab topologies have specific revisions of each of those images. If you do not have the exact same revision EVE-NG may mess up and load your Layer 2 image when a Layer 3 image was needed. So, before turning on the devices in the lab, it's best to verify that they are set to use the appropriate image. All the imges are out there in the wild and are relatively easy to find. You can find a few here and there, or you can pay for access to terabytes of images from every major manufacture. The choice is yours. Google is your friend.

Hi Jeremiah, I'd like to ask you about CCIE SECURITY, under your consideration , Do you think this is still worth it or are there better options in the market ?
@jeremiahwolfe

Sorry I haven't spent any real time looking into CCIE Security, so I don't have a well informed opinion.
