To get to Tukaram restaurant, take the Mapusa-Bicholim road from Mapusa toward Thivim station, and after crossing the Mumbai highway, take the second left . There’s a sign for Tukaram restaurant here. Halfway up the left turn is Tukaram restaurant. Continue further up towards Tukaram’s ample parking space. Then walk back down the hill
I went to Tukaram along with my friends Sophie and Geeta from Bombay who are holidaying in Goa, and their cousin Lou who is visiting from the UK. I wanted to share with them an authentic Goan fish curry rice plate lunch. Sophie is one of my oldest friends and we’re very excited to be making a video together finally and more important to be eating great Goan fish fry.
The day’s fresh catch noted on the board outside Tukaram really put us in the mood for a great fish lunch. It’s a small place with 3 tables in here and 3 tables in the next room.
Quite a few people have told us that the food is really awesome here. Today we're having one veg thali, one chonak thali, one prawns thali and one kingfish rawa fry. One of the nice things about Tukaram is the veg thali has Goan food. Otherwise, a lot of places have North Indian veg in their veg thali.
Tukaram’s fish thali comes in a specially shaped thali, to accommodate all the many items. Tukaram’s chonak thali has prawn curry, sweet, kismur (dry fish salad), teesrio (shellfish), crab, cabbage bhaji, narl codi, salad, rawa fry chonak, fried chicken and rice. The veg thali has dal, sweet, cabbage bhaji, salad, narl codi, pickle, papor and rice.
Fantastic prawn curry. The portions are just right. The teesrio and kismur at Tukaram were sublime.
The kingfish was also fresh and yummy. Huge portion, huge fish.
