Villanova vs. North Carolina: 2016 National Championship game highlights 

2016 was one of the most exciting and amazing years in Sports history. Warriors break the NBA most wins record, which seemed unbreakable, but then lose the Finals from being up 3-1 to guess who? Cleveland, who wins their first pro sports city title in over 60 years. Peyton Manning retires with a super bowl win, the Cubs win their first world series in 108 years, not to mention coming back from being down 3-1 as well to Cleveland. Kobe scores 60 in his last game. What a year for sports.

NCAA > NBA if you're talking about atmosphere

One of the best games of all time. Incredible shots, last five seconds were perfect.

The biggest rollercoaster game ever! From the biggest highs to the lowest lows! I am a Tar Heel fan and even though we lost that game showed two championship teams play there hearts out! One of the greatest of all time!

Villanova crushed all 5 of their prior opponents in the NCAA Tournament by an average margin of 28.4 points and Carolina played them dead even until the last 4 seconds. The Tar Heels should not feel humbled, but proud that they were in a championship game that was contested until the very end and will be long remembered.

Jay Wright has built Villanova into a 2x national champion and national powerhouse at a school that doesn’t even have 7,000 students. UNC and most other big time basketball schools usually enroll about 30,000 students. Even Duke has half of that with 15,000 or so. 2021 will be the 16th time Villanova makes the tournament in 17 opportunities. If they’re a 1 or 2 seed it will be the 6th time in 7 years that they are seeded that high. If they finish ranked in the top 10 it will be the 7th time in 8 years they finish there, too. Since 2005, ‘Nova has 3 final four appearances, 6 sweet sixteen appearances, and has won 2 national championships. Villanova is also in line to finish first in the Big East for the 7th time in 8 years. They finished 2nd by one game in 2018 but went on to win the national title anyway. Remarkable.

The sequence between 2:03 and 2:17 was the biggest exchange of the game. UNC had all the momentum at the end of the first half and if they convert that fast break off a turnover they go up 41-32 at half, instead a block and basket at the other end leaves it at a 5-point game and Nova carried that momentum into the second half. It will be forgotten about because of the classic final minute but that may not have ever happened without the way the first half ended.

I am not American and hve never seen an NCAA championship but I like the game and out of curiousity I watched this game and immediately backed Villanova, cannot explain why. Guess NC seemed stronger but I will never miss this event again! SOOooo intense and sooo exciting! Cannot wait to see If any of these young men are drafted into the League. CONGRATS!

Well deserved title. Played tough teams to win it all and came through every single time. Glad Jay Wright got his elusive National Title. Such an amazing coach. Also, one of the best games I have ever seen in my life! A thriller from beginning to end!

Villanova sure knows how TO DO IT, huh?? I thought NC STATE and Jimmy V was the biggest upset in sports history, (and greatest tournament final I've seen), followed by Villanova's 1985 win over Georgetown, but this one topped both of them for best ending!! Sorry Jimmy V, but I still LOVE YA!!!

Just another reason of why i love sports

That stop and subsequent basket at the end of the half seemed kind of important for Villanova. Things were getting out of hand and Tar Heels had all the momentum and about to build a 9-point lead into halftime. Instead the Wildcats are only down 5 points. That seemed like a big sequence.

This is why I love college basketball. I never tune in to watch the NBA, but for March Madness/NCAA I do. I just love watching the excitement of these games and the ambition of these basketball players.

I love Carolina. Really proud of them for fighting back like they did. Props to Jenkins on the shot. Saying all that. . . In the words of Billy Packer 1995, "you cannot allow a man to have that shot". Especially the best shooter on the floor. He should of been bodied up at half court. Force Nova into a contested jumper. As a UNC fan, it used to be impossible for me to watch this replay. The 2017 National Championship has healed the pain. It was this game that fueled UNC's "Redemption Tour" in 2017. Without losing like this in dramatic fashion, UNC would have never been driven to be 2017 champions. So thanks, I guess, Villanova.
