Fun Note: DMA Design, who eventually became Rockstar North, were constantly rushed and annoyed by Nintendo during this game's development, which soured them to Nintendo for some time.

For N64 this is like really fucking impressive

PRO TIP: Never sell games you think you're "bored" with after you beat them. You *will* miss them eventually. (the ones you actively *dislike* are usually okay to get rid of)

This looks genuinely insane for an N64 game.

It's amazing how clearly you can see it's influences on GTA, the hud, the driving, the camera, the cutscenes where something happens and the npcs and their avatars

The opening cutscene at that speed looks like if ReBoot was animated like modern Family Guy

This is one of those games you just don't hear anyone talk about anymore, or even back then honestly

This might be the most fascinating N64 game I’ve ever seen.

This game always felt like a Rare game to me, maybe because the orange reminded me of Blast Corps

I enjoy when he plays one of these games from his childhood and describes things in it to Chat like: "Now Chat. The humans are being harvested by evil aliens right? So you use these cool vehicles and space weapons as this orange dude to save them and..." It really sounds lie he's talking to his son or something, makes all that art depicting Chat as a small child next to him all the more funny and accurate.

Before the 3D GTA series, there was this game and it showed what how ambitious Rockstar was.

Saw a bit of this last night, I’m unfamiliar with the game, and today I was trying to recall what Vin had played like “that Body Poppin’ game or something?”

They really captured the authenticity of the time of 2016

I would purposely get expelled from school just to come home and play this game all day along with Perfect Dark and 007 Goldeneye and The world is not enough as well as Turok Dinosaur Hinter, Battle Tanx, Turok 2 Seeds of Evil, Doom 64, War Gods and Hexxen 64. Those games are timeless and consume me even today

I'm so impressed how advanced the game is considering the release year and hardware. It is no wonder that latter Rockstar North is behind this. They are like Bach on his time, no one can touch their innovativity, productivity and quality.

one time I tried to buy the rights to body harvest, but rockstar couldn't figure out who actually held the rights anymore within the company.

I'm really happy you revisited this classic N64 game of my childhood! Starting out in Greece so early in time is not as cool. But the rest of it after the first map is awesome!

This is the definition of a game that doesn't get the love it deserves. I remember renting this and not liking it because I didn't know what to do or how to do anything. There is a lot to this game even though it doesn't seem like it. I only came to appreciate this game years later when I got older. Great game.

When I was a kid I loved feeding people to aliens so I could ride around on a bike trying to avoid the lightning that basically acts as a game over.

I like how dude from the future has to save us (from the far future of 2016 BTW) but used trucks, planes and machine guns of the time to stop the alien invasion.

Thanks for playing this Vin, it's always great seeing you go back and play the super interesting or iconic games from the past that I missed. Your playthroughs of Chrono Trigger and FF9 are some of my favorite things I've watched, and that includes films and TV series.

Loved this game, the music was so atmospheric. Though it crashed alot on me on later levels, I'd never known a console game to crash at the time.

This game reminds me of Runescape with the look of some objects and the way the character moves. Kinda funny.

This was one of my favourites on the n64. There's a reference to this in gta San Andreas in the Mission where you have to steal the fresher

There are two main reasons why we did not get a Metroid 64. 1. Sakamoto couldn't figure out how to get the devilish mess that is the N64 controller to work for a Metroid game. 2. Super Metroid was too good, so the unknown third party Nintendo approached to develop Metroid 64 said no because they didn't think they could make a worthy followup.

I love Operation Winback. I always rented the N64 version as a kid, but never bought it. Finally found a PS2 copy of it a few years back though.

I'm pretty sure this released before Zelda: Ocarina of Time, like just a few months before., which I believe makes it the first fully 3D open world game to be commercially released. This is definitely a game I wish had a full remake or reboot.

Love how high the body counter gets, especially when Vinny very confidently heads SW instead of SE, resulting in almost maxing the counter lol.

I loved this game so much. It's so strange looking back and seeing what blew your mind as a kid. The main area(Hyrule) in Zelda Ocarina Of Time seemed so vast and huge at the time and the world's in games like this just seemed too massive to even grasp. I must've spent 60% of my time just wandering around. Obviously compared to these days the areas/maps in those games are miniscule and not even comparable but even to somebody like me who knows very little about the technical side of videogames it still seems really impressive how the N64 was able to fit so much onto a single cartridge. I have a memory of me having a bath a week or so before Christmas when I could play Body Harvest and being really excited because I had just read a review in Nintendo magazine or some other video game magazine saying how good the game was. I imagined it would be like Starship Troopers or something.😅 All in all I still reckon the N64 is my favourite console ever and the console that's given me the best memories. Plus Turok and Turok2 are on my top fifteen favourite games of all time list.

God I can't believe I missed this live, what with me being in the UK and his streams being on really late. I have so many memories from this game. I remember only being able to beat the first level since Java was nigh on impossible for me. I only beat the game because I used an ICheat Profile. I even got into Speedrunning and help develop a couple of tricks used in the run. This game means a lot to me and it's a shame I didn't see this live.

Vinny that turning problem you were having was the same thing I had when I played this on n64. I was using a third party controller and switching to a normal one made it work

I love Dark Cloud 1 and 2, god I wish they would reboot the series with a third game.

I remember buying this game when it came out. There was a commercial of it that I have been trying to find for years without success. I think it was live action and had some kids running into a field away from the dragonfly enemies.

Has Sly Cooper but never finished it! Vinny you like MGS and never finished Sly Cooper. Sly was an unofficial mascot for the playstation during the ps2 era. That was my childhood.

Finally completed this with all secret crystals and alien objects, 0% harvested and 0% killed. That was harder than getting 100/100 stars in Manhunt due to two glitches (both in Java)

vinny's list made me now whanna see him play dark cloud or rouge galaxy but those games are longish.

This game had the most rocky development cycle on the n64. The way how the game mixes the sci fi open world shooting and riding vehicles, and Nintendo's involvement with the development of the game, adding rpg elements and changing the direction and visuals to try and reach their level of quality and appeal to the japanese market due to a lack of RPGs on the n64 is why the game feels like this.
