I was once told that a lining has to be a different pattern than what is being lined, that way they will lay right . . . I think it was Lucifer himself who told me that. I have since bag lined and flat lined a few pieces. I prefer flatlining. There is a LOT less crying. The fabric is pretty. Do what you have to to live and not dig a hole to go insane in. I have encountered many spaghetti patterns, and immediately noped out of there. Brave woman.
I love that fabric! The dress is lovely 😻 Also, 3 videos a month when you're already working full time (and a parent) is excessive. Don't burn yourself out for RU-vid! 🤗😎🤗
Don't worry about your pockets. Historically some pockets were hidden in the back. I think Enchanted Rose Costumes, Bernadette Banner, Nicole Rudolph, Abby Cox, and probably others have all discussed some of the strange places pockets have been in women's clothing ... when we have pockets.
I'm not going anywhere. I'll wait for your videos whenever we will be fortunate enough to receive them, so please don't feel stressed about making content.

It was Beyer Moden, one of the lesser known ones. And it don't exist anymore unlike Burda.✌️ Would love to have stacks of 1950's Burdas - only started collecting them in the last two years.
@@olgaremesow5212 Ah, you solved it! I would have guessed Burda - I didn't even know, there was a magazine called 'Beyer' around back then. And vintage Burda issues...my. It somehow never occurred to me, to hunt for those. I got a stack from the 90s and early 00s and there are some real treasures in there. Compared to today, they were much more fashion forward and daring back then. Or at least, that's my impression.
@@raraavis7782 I would agree. I started sewing in the early 1980s with Burda patterns - there's nothing like learning with the hard stuff right away. I still think their designs back then were a lot more interesting than now, especially for men. I really liked the way the trousers I made fit me compared to American or English patterns. The bagginess in the butt was simply not there even though the trousers were not tightly fitted, and I know it was because of the comparatively shorter length of the back crotch seam. Also, and this may be completely wrong, I swear that when Burda changed their patterns (some time in the '90s?) to use tissue paper and added seam allowances they also changed their basic draft. The trousers I made from the new patterns did NOT fit like their European style patterns. The fit was actually close to American/English patterns. I haven't used a recent Burda pattern so I don't know if that's still true, but their selection of menswear is now very limited compared to then so I'm unlikely to find out.
@@agcons Interesting observation about the fit issue. In Germany, Burda patterns are still without seam allowance. Not sure, if their basic sloper changed. For me, Burda has always been a little hit and miss, when it comes to fit. Sometimes stuff fits really well... sometimes it doesn't. Irrespective of wheather it's a new or old pattern. I wish, they would just tell us, how much ease is in a given pattern!

Hi Stephanie, I really enjoyed this video and all you ahve done so far. Entertainment value is 100% and this one made me laugh so much. You should become a comedian. I have never seen one of those patterns before...French or German they are both so complicated. I am so happy you managed to finish the dress in your own way. Ass pockets!!! They could catch on your know!!!
Some hints for tracing spaghetti patterns: - use real, art supply store tracing paper. You need all the transparency you can get. I used to attempt to use a roll of medical exam paper (free), I could barely see through it. - Shine as much light as possible on the paper. Then find more light ... I work in bright daylight, curtains all open, dining room lights full on, and an extra spotlight. - If you have one, use a mechanical pencil with soft lead ... I use a 2B. Not only are the lines darker, they're easier to erase. Use a good eraser, too. - I weigh down my tracing paper with pattern weights. To make it easier, I put a weight at each important corner of the pattern piece. - Write on each piece: pattern number, magazine date, piece number, size, and whether there are seam allowances.
I love when you do these “crazy” projects. I’m sure it’s incredibly stressful for you, but it’s kind of the way I tend to approach things as well- just set your sights, jump in, and wing it- and it just makes me feel like I can grow outside of my comfort zone too. Also, I was tickled pink when you posted on Instagram about the spaghetti diagram teaser. I have some vintage magazines with those patterns, and I really wanted to see how they work up. Can’t wait!
That fabric is adorable! The centre panel on the diagonal is a cute touch! I can say that I’ve tried making an outfit with no instructions and the struggle is real. Also, no worries on the uploads! You have a life outside of this and I fully appreciate and adore any and all videos you have the time to upload

Bravo! What a delightful presentation. I love sewing, I could watch it all day! The dress will look fantastic once you apply your adjustments. Based on the back view shown on the original piece you showed, I think you got your left and right back panels switched around so it wasn’t supposed to be higher in the back.

I love love love the dress!! The fabric is super cute, I’m amazed you were able to find anything resembling pattern pieces in that spaghetti mess!!! Also, please do not worry at all about releasing less videos - this should be fun for you as well, and none of us would want you to end up biting off too much when you have other priorities in your life to worry about!
You were right, the tableclothes made a really cute dress! I love halter necks and look great in them but my neck does not and will then give me migraines as punishment so I totally understand you wanting to change the straps. For no instructions and sizing up it came out well! In terms of video frequency I would much prefer videos that you have had the time you need/want to give your idea justice, as opposed to a video every week, especially given you aren't doing this full time. Please be kind to yourself, it produces much better content!
Spaghetti Pattern aha!! That is the best way to describe it. I have a 1950s one from the brand Record (an Austrian company but printed in French). You’ve inspired me to take a second look at the designs and *maybe* I’ll finally get around to picking one to make
You do what you need to do to make your life work, no worries. Weirdly, I recently found Nani's channel before she posted her collab video! In order to make things easier on yourself, what about smaller projects? Instead of a whole dress, maybe make accessories? Hair diddlybobs (ties, bands, clips, etc,) masks that match the dresses you've made, hats? Skirts take less time (usually) and hair-pulling because there is no hecking BUST SHAPING involved. *Grumbles* Regardless, don't drive yourself crazy!
I can understand your pain, my recent sewing project is from a 1975 burda magazine. I sent a snap picture of the pattern page to my friends: what is that? Is it a map? Was their response. I had no plans of reselling this magazine, so i did draw over the lines i needed on the pattern page to make them stand out more.

I have several Burda magazines from the 1990s and I used some of the "spaghetti line" patterns from the inserts. They were printed in several colours as well as different symbols for the lines, and I have to say that tracing them was easier than trying to trace just the symbol on the black-only sheet that you're doing here. My eyes crossed in sympathy.
Wow, that is a super pretty dress, though! Can't believe, you don't like the holder neck, I absolutely adore them. I had a dress almost like that, but with an elasticised back (store bought), which I wore to death, a couple years back. Always got a ton of compliments for it, too. And now excuse me, while I try to find an available pattern similar to this 😅😎
I love your videos so much that I'm happy to have whatever you put out. Don't make yourself ill, or hate doing this because you're trying to do too much - a job, plus family eats enough energy and time that I'd far rather you do fewer videos than burn out and never make any more. I love how that fabric looks in your dress. Now I want table cloths just like those so I can make my own summer dress (even though I'm heading into winter).

That looks like those terrible patterns that are in a magazine as they are offered here as standard in Belgium and the Netherlands. Nice patterns, if you can decipher them. Now I remember why I usually work without patterns. It's great that you deciphered that line horror so quickly. I usually don't manage to trace them onto pattern paper. That dress looks fantastic even though it comes from such a horrible spaghetti pattern. Wow, hats off. You are actually lucky that you now have a French-language pattern instead of German. German has a number of letters that do not occur in English, Dutch and French (i.e. other languages), making it difficult to put them in Translate, for example.
I would hope your fans understand you are human too. You are a wife, mother, dog owner, stage manager, and whole person with a life outside those things. I would rather you be happy and that your channel be a work of passion for years to come than have a video every week at the cost of you being constantly stressed. Don't feel guilty about putting your needs first. No apology is owed to anyone.

So, it's BON-jou, not BON-jou-rrrr for 'hello'. I don't actually speak French well (please, don't revoke my Canadianness) and I had to wait until I hit adult education before anyone landed that pronunciation trick on my head. These things happen when you speak English in French class {sigh}. Don't worry about it, ya did great. I adore your videos because your sense of humor rocks. BUT if you're overstressed trying to produce content and work a demanding job, you may lose that je ne sais quoi that is so Stephanie Canada.
