brought back so many memories for me. That 139.00 back in the 70's was all my mom could save to get her 13 yr old a radio for his room. Thanks I played that SD so much I had to save my money for new belts and needles every 6 months, it was my friend for many years.

Hi, Max. Thank you for the comment. And I appreciate that you are still keeping your old turntable and yet maintaining it up to date. Great vintage lover!!

I love this video. My everyday stereo is a National Panasonic SS7000 2 piece turntable and receiver unit from circa 1969-71. It's going back in for it's 3rd repair in 5 years though. Just like a vintage car, repairs are what you deal with. I've got 3 way Sony SS330 speakers (circa 1979-82) hooked to it which have also been restored. When it all works, it sounds like heaven.

Thank you for this! I'd love to see how you even got the platter off - I can't even get there. I picked one of these up when an old friend was clearing his office. Radio works, 8 track works but not the record player. And even though a new record player is cheap ... I feel like fixing it.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 5 лет назад
If the platter is seized by the old dried up grease, you need to melt it with heat. If you can spin the platter, then all you need to do is removing the c-type clip that is holding the platter down. In my other turntable video, you see how I removed the platters, check them out!

Hi Teddy. I just got a Panasonic all in one Turntable/8 track radio from the early 70's. It has I think a slipped belt in the 8 track and I need to do what you did to the changer on the turntable. It does not return correctly or shut off. I am waiting for a shop manual to hopefully show me how to safely open this and get at all those parts . I also have to change the lights in the display area as they are out. Thanks for your very informative and entertaining video!
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
Hi, Carlo. Thank you for the comment, and congratulations on getting your turntable. About 8 track, cleaning most parts by removing old dried out grease and dust, replace the belt will make it work properly again in most case. If you have a demagnetizer, do not forget to demagnetize head. Turntable mechanism, this is all removing dried-out grease. If the manual dose not do any help, you just observe the mechanism and you will get the idea where to clean, which parts is stuck, etc... Enjoy your restoration.

I would like to mention that the star shaped piece you took off at 8 minutes is a clutch and should not be oiled. It pushes the tone arm both forward and back but allows the swing arm (the large metal piece transmitting motion from the cam) to keep moving with out binding. You might also want to grease the post on the idler wheel. Thank you for the informative video.

Since there is a 9 volt DC motor for BSR turntables, I did some tests.The BSR 33-45-78 rpm turntable works well with both AC and DC motors. On the other hand, the BSR 16-33-45-78 rpm turntable works well only with the alternating current motor.

Good. Actions really speak for themselves as shown here. One needs watching your vid time and again to learn how BSR ttables work,and then some. What caught my amusement is the 45 rpm adapter recess provided in this SD model as opposed to MY later-made SD 5757 where an 8-track tape holder now sits in the same spot. They should have retained that particular feature down to the last Tt to come off the line and thus making sure the adapter is there as needed...not ending under the rugs,etc.. eBay..

There is an old technician trick I learned on You Tube where you can rejuvenate an older rubber belt (not one that's turned to goo!) by boiling it in water for 10 to 15 minutes. I've seen it done and it appears to work. I suspect you could do that with your 8 track belt as it's much too loose. Regards, Tom

Hello everyone. When it's possible I like to collect old vintage 70's and 80's radio AM FM stereo casset and turntable equipment, because I am fond of vinyl long play and 45 rpm records. I think the vinyl music is the best and vinyl remenber me my twenties.

I have a super super similar record player ! Got it for free because it won't turn. Cleaned the grease and everything and now the motors running but the little piece (you were pointing out below the bigger piece that makes the needle move) won't move. The like bookmark looking one with a ball that moves when you start the record. Any recommendations??

When I fixed other turn table, I removed all parts from the body and clean them like new. And put them together, gave oil to them. Then turn table get back in the really good condition. Sometime we can not see what is causing any problem to turntable, if so I remove all parts step by step with taking picture as well as video. This will help me to put them back together. Do not give up and find solution. Always there is a way to fix problems even it looks really bad. Teddy

Hi,thank you for your comment and question. I already sold this great turntable to music lover, and can not see the detail around needle and arm. However if the needle does not stay in the arm, my guess is small chip in the socket of the arm for needle, or needle itself did not much to the socket. I hope you can find your solution, for me, I always see detail of the parts and check internet, youtube to find solution. Do not give up!! Teddy

Even as early as the 1970's these all-in-one component systems popularity were in decline and considered "junk". Well, yes and no. For a bedroom, den, kitchen or garage this would be an acceptable system. Will it fill a large room with loud music? No way. It's nice to see this stuff still exists. The forerunner of our separate component society. My kitchen has a Pioneer SX-434 receiver that powers a Nakamichi BX-1 cassette deck and Boston Acoustics A-40 speakers.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
Hi, Marty. Thank you for the comment. Wow you have a Nakamichi BX-1, it's really a looking good one.
@martyjewell5683
@martyjewell5683 6 лет назад
Thanks Teddy, I got the BX-1 in 2010 and paid $75. It was refurbished, cleaned and degaussed. It runs great, just wish it had Dolby-C. It only has Dolby-B. Still, it's a good deck and makes excellent recordings. I think the BX-2 has Dolby-B and C noise reduction. Nice video buddy, very educational.
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 6 лет назад
Thank you Marty.
@martyjewell5683
@martyjewell5683 6 лет назад
Well yes, it ain't "high fidelity" sound but calling it "junk" is a bit excessive. You're much better off with separate components. However, in a garage or cellar workshop this would be acceptable for casual listening, NOT analytical enjoyment. And yes, I wouldn't ruin any LP's on a rig like this.

Hi Mark, I just found one exactly as you describe, Model SKTRC 560, at Goodwill, $60.00, everything works well albeit some dork managed to snap off the stylus that had been working perfectly the day before...no matter, it came with FOUR additional styli, a few 8-tracks, manual, and a pair of microphones (The 8-track records!). The finish has some peeling, but so what? These things NEVER work right when you find them for sale, so I really feel fortunate. I'd appreciate any further info on this specific model, can't find it anywhere.

Not sure of you mean platter. The platter is secured to the shaft with an e clip. Just use a screw driver to gently push it off the shaft. I just picked one of these up similar to the one in the video.The platter wouldn't turn but I could hear the motor was seizing so I examined it carefully for some time looking in from the back panel to determine how to take it apart.Once disassembled I rotated the motor with my fingers and now it works fine.I can't imagine this POS tracking good at all.CONT

Good job...could you help me??? I have a Sony hp 319 and I need to change dial cord... Do you know how??? Thanks...
@teddyhashee
@teddyhashee 7 лет назад
Replacing or rewiring the radio tuning strings isn't so difficult job. Remove the system from outer case, check the radio dial strings, it may be cut in somewhere or some of the pulley is missing, etc... You can just use your imagination and follow the strings how it starts from dial knob and how it goes around the radio tuning system, then end up to the dial knob. It's kind of solving mysteries like Sherlock Holmes. Most servicing manual does not include how to wire the strings for tuning system, so you need to find it out how to rewire. Restoration is observation. Enjoy!!

I use this amzn.to/2tuUZTq you can find it at local guitar center or amazon, ebay, etc.. Spray it into potentiometer they have small hole to let contact cleaner in. www.electronics-tutorials.ws/resistor/rotary.jpg Then twiddle the volume control knob many times until you hear the clear sound. Almost most of the volume problem will solve by cleaning up the potentiometer. Do not forget to clean selection switch. (The switch that will chose radio, phono, aux, etc..) Teddy

I was given a soundesign system model number 5859 and a soundesign record player model 0958p last month as I was getting started in vinyl again. it all works but I would like to find more about it especially the record player as don't know if anything was ever replaced on it. it sounds ok though. Hi, William. first of all, congratulations on receiving vintage audio system and starting listening old vinyl music again. About your question, I googled to find the manuals, however, no hit. I know this is the place you want to become a member and drop your many questions. www.vinylengine.com I sometime find many information from there including service manuals. Becoming a member is free and you can find tons of great information from vinyl music lovers. By the way, about turntable system, it is not difficult to check inside and out. I recommend to remove platter and see the drive tire condition. Remove changer from wooden body and check the lubrication for each parts and motor. Removing old dried out grease and apply new one, clean inside of the motor and give motor oil, apply rubber rejuvenator to drive tire. And finally replace needle to new one. You will amaze how the sound quality will change with these simple maintenance. Most of my work, I did without any manuals, and not difficult at all. Hope you will have a great vintage music life!! Teddy.

No tracking force adjustment or anti-skating with this thing. I just connected it to my Pioneer SX-626 and a listened to some 78''s but I would never put any of my lp's on it. I suppose 45's stacked would be good but I don't listen to noise filled grooves other than 78's. It's more nostalgic I guess.

this helped me a whole lot I finnally got my tone arm to actually move, the problem is, is that it only moves to 7 inch no matter what I have it set to, I know to solve this problem I would have to remove the turntable from the deck and I've already found out that that is near impossible unless you know how, my hands are too big to reach under as I read in a forum how do I remove it?
