Today we've got something different, a vintage Coleman lantern. Today, Josiah and I revive a 1972 Coleman 220F dual mantle lantern, and fire it for the first time in almost 30 years. Enjoy!

30 years? That's like 30 minutes for a coleman. I've got 4 almost 70 years old. I'm just glad some of yall youngsters are interested in this.

This is VERY interesting timing. I literally JUST got one of these off ebay. 4/72 220F still in box and seller advised has been sitting unused since the mid 1980's. I got the shipping notification no more than a few hours ago and now youtube is recommending this video. Methinks there's shenannigans afoot. lol That's good lantern you have there. Always nice to see another one brought back into service and ready for many more decades of use.

Brilliant vid. I just got a kerosene 639 dated 1974 still in the box and even a warranty slip with it. I think it was only lit once before as the inside of the chimney is so clean. It’s in perfect condition and lit up first try ! God bless American engineering from Ireland.

Good job on your video. Just a couple additional steps that could make your experience with the lantern better. You didn’t mention these so I assume you may be unaware. Rotate the pricker wire loop a few times before you light the lantern to make sure there is no carbon build up in the gas tip of the generator. This can also be done while the lantern is lit. The other item: Once it’s lit and you’ve opened the fuel valve all the way, pump about 10 to 20 more pumps of air into the tank. More pumps means a stronger brighter light output. Experiment with the number of additional pumps to achieve the desired amount of light. I hope this helps.

Recently bought one like this. Try some yellow bottle Heet to clean out the tank and generator. Lighting procedure is to turn the wire choke up then down when you get good fire. I rehabbed grandpa's coleman stove, not run in over 35 years. Gas had turned to varnish and the valve was plugged. I turned a wood drill bit into a tool to extract the valve.

Really nice. That emits the kind of light you just can get from any other source. Glad the pump was able to be revived as you did, they were built to last by good old American engineering, and of course it still works today. I highly doubt a new made-in-China one would make it 5 years. Truly, it's a disposable society today, and then we wonder why the landfills are filling up.

I wonder if you know? I just pulled out an old Coleman marked 220F w/ sunrise on side and a date on the bottom-- 10-61. Can this date be accurate?

Baby those silk lite mantles. The new ones aren't the same ... As others said, pump it again after lighting and opening. Those mantles will get really bright

What type of oil did you use for the oil pump and leather thing?

Coughlin's makes a plastic funnel specifically for filling lanterns and stoves like the Colemans. Amazon has them for less than $ 2. I remember when Coleman made the same funnel in metal, aluminum if I remember correctly.

I’ve got one of these from 70, it comes with a metal green case and a clip on the inside to hold the funnel you’re speaking of. All Coleman brand. It’s pretty cool
