Let me know if you want me to feature some other vintage beauty products you can still buy today! Also, don't forget to follow me on Instagram and say hello:) instagram.com/dahliasintheattic/
I love your videos 😊 I'd love to see a video on beauty habits (maybe there won't be so many products involved, but we could still do them nowadays!) or body products.
Weleda - their Revitalizing Hair Tonic has been around since 1921, and their range of Iris face creams have been around for some time too but I'm not sure how long. I remember though buying their Iris soap in the early 90's, but they don't do that any more. The face creams are still available and absolutely great for dry skin.
Not sure if anyone else would be interested in this, but I would love to see videos on vintage products that aren't available today. What rare vintage gems could be found that have been long forgotten?
I know. Some of best products tend to be cancelled out. I recall a red hair color from Clairol series Hydrience called Hibiscus. I have yet to find such an bright auburn that is in the perfect copper red tone like that one. Balsam is another series that has been cancelled. :( Every time I find the right hair color brand and series, it gets cancelled. The only one that hasn't is Manic Panic.
When I was a little girl (I'm 70 now) I would go with my father to the "drugstore" and was always drawn to the cosmetic section. I was always mystified by the 'oil of olay' in the pink box with the glass bottle and the lady on the box with her hands on either side of her face. Just couldn't wait till I could start using it. I had very oily skin as a teenager, now that I'm older I'm as dry as a desert...so girls..MOISTUIZE!!!!
When I was 14 my mother told me to cleanse and moisture every morning and night. I danced ballet between the age of 7 until I was 25, so I drank ALOT of water. I used Nivea and Oil of Olay. Living in Sweden we didn't have ponds or neurogena. I still use Nivea. I'm 55 today. No wrinkles.
I use Vitamin C oil during the day time to moisturize and as a repair cream I use hemorrhoid cream (lowers the puffiness around the eyes and tightens the forehead and jar-line, while protects the skin from losing moisture due to the petroleum sealing in). People always asked me what is my secret to looking 15 - 20 years younger and it is good eating, using vitamin C oil and hemorrhoid cream. Now if only I can control my uveitis I had developed over time. I had a hair, face and body routine since the age of 11, which I have been perfecting over time. I'm 37 and it has done wonders. I have students who get amazed when I tell them my age and they tell me I look younger than their 20 year old parents. I tell young folks about the importance of using a good face oil to trap in moisture during the day and to use hemorrhoid cream at night, also drink lots of water and tea throughout the day. Also sleep, lots of sleep. The earlier the better so you look well rested.
So glad I found your channel. My granny used Ponds and Olay religiously from the time she was a teen in the 40s until she died last year. Even after she lost the ability to speak due to strokes, she'd rub her face and we knew she wanted her face cleaned with Ponds and her Olay rubbed in. She had extremely dry skin. She was 83 when she passed and only had slight wrinkles around her eyes.
I'm 58. My grandmother used Pond Cold Cream her entire life and had beautiful skin. There is no reason to buy expensive creams. Jergens was great too. The cherry almond scent is delicious. Avon has fantastic products at very reasonable prices. I drove around the country side selling Avon in the 70s during summers off from college to earn money. I literally went door to door!
I think that is very important for younger people to hear we are being bombarded with so much products that cost an arm and a leg that we forget these things hsve withstood the test of time for a reason
I love cold creams! I’m 55 and my mother is 81 and my grandmother lived to 96 and we got/get complimented on not looking our age and having great skin-we thank all these old time cold creams!!
I just bough some ponds and my god where has this been all my life? Seriously i am into horror punk so the eye make up i use is intentionally excessive and out there so finding a make up remover that doesn't leave redness is essential
My granny uses Pond's cold cream. I bought a jar of Pond's for myself a few weeks ago. I love the smell, and so does my dog. I found her trying to get into the jar one night. 😂😂
I just changed from Pond's to Jergen's face cream finding Jergen's to be less oily, plus who doesn't like the $4 price for a huge jar? Note the reviews on any website will have 4.5 to 5 stars for both Ponds and Jergens, can't go wrong with either. Would love to see you do a video comparing a cheaper face cream to your Erno Lazlo products Laura, maybe use each for a month and let us know which is better.
I was born 1973. I miss my Grammy so much! In the 70’s early 80’s as a small child I would go through all her face care, and makeup things. She was a huge fan, of Oil of Olay. She used it religiously, and just before she passed away she still didn’t have one wrinkle! No kidding!!! I’m glad I inherited her skin, so blessed! I remember the Oil of Olay glass jar, it was my favorite stuff, it smelled amazing! I searched everywhere for that formula, but couldn’t seem to find it anywhere. It’s just not the same anymore. The one I remember was almost like water consistency, the ones now in the store are more like lotion, I’m kinda sad about that. I also remember the shampoo she used to love, and washed my hair with, it was called Body on Tap. Oh my goodness, what a great shampoo!!! Thank you Laura for your awesome channel! You have took me back to some great memories 🥰
I love Olay and ponds cold cream, my grandmother swore by both of them and my mom always pushed me to use them. I have been using both since I was 15, I am now 32 and everyone thinks I am 25. So y'all moisturize your skin will love you when you're older.
My mom is 84 years old and still uses the Jergens face cream. She says it was very popular in Mexico .during her childhood. I use the Jergens body lotion with the original almond scent. Thank you for your videos. I always curl up in the sofa with a cup of coffee and watch them. Hugs from California.
Sarah Stroud I also used Neutrogena glycerin bar when I was 17 and always enjoyed the fragrance. Later I switched to Ponds and at 66 I still enjoy this product. Wish I could do a commercial.
I've been using the Pond's Cold Cream to remove make-up and cleanse my skin for about a year now, and my skin has never looked better! I use the Nivea Creme (which I noticed is at the first of the video, but you didn't mention it....?) as a night moisturizer (it's a bit too heavy for day, under make-up) and I wake up with glowing skin. The oldies have stayed around for a reason! They're wonderful ♥️
I'm a newer subscriber & I enjoy watching ur vids. My mom has used that pink olay face lotion since I can remember and the smell just instantly takes me back. I can remember when it was in the glass jar with the black lid even! Thank u for all the info & showing us all this nostalgic stuff!
I use Ponds Jergens and Oil of Olay I sometimes use products from Avonand I sometimes use Neutrogena but I hadn't knew Neutrogena had been around for that long I also use Pears translucent soap and Ivory and Palm Olive bar soap and I have used the queen Helene cocoa butter face and body cream its pretty good I love the Queen Helene mint julep face mask and I got really excited finding out that Elizabeth Taylor used the same Jergens face cream that I use also thank you for these videos I absolutely love them
I remember using Ponds Light Moisturizer in high school in 1972. They kept the same scent and put it in the dry skin cream they make now. One sniff and I'm back in the past. Thanks for such a great exploration of the retro beauty landscape.
I am currently using Olay. The smell takes me back to my grandma who used to use it and always had beautiful skin. She also used Ponds. I didn’t realise that you could still get it. The smell of the Olay takes me back to being a little girl, I’m 60 next year! Love your vlogs, finding them fascinating.
@chockycake1 Is it the original pink one?? I didn't know it was still made. All I've seen now is the white lotion with SPF...tried it and don't like it at all!! But, haven't used Olay for years although I started using it when I was 18! It was great. I switched to Clinique many years ago now. But, would be interested in using some again IF it's the exact same original!! Thx.
I loved Oil of Olay! I used it in the early 1990’s not sure why I stopped 🤷♀️ I love Jergen’s Cherry Almond hand lotion ! I didn’t know they made face cream
I LOVE your channel! I love everything vintage, and always have. I have a lot of vintage fragrance/toiletries bottles around my medicine cabinet. Seems the packaging of days gone by was SO much more lavish than now.
My mom always used Oil of Olay when I was a kid. She used the white in the glass bottle. It seemed to glamorous to me. The Jergens cream is great and very affordable especially since you get a huge tub.
Hi beautiful I am newbie here and I love watching you, I love a lot of vintage stuff I’m glad I found you on RU-vid, can’t wait to see more of your videos oh by the way I love using ponds for my Moisturizer, it’s my go to I use it every day and night and I love the way my face looks I have very dry skin and it works great
Really great video. So informative and entertaining. I had no idea Neutrogena has been around for so long. I've been using their transparent glycerine soap for years plus their night cream, it never irratates my skin and so far have very few wrinkles for my age. I remember my grandmother using the Jergens line. I lived how it smelled. I feel like going and buying some now just for nostalgia sake. Thanks for the videos and rhe effort you put into them
Absolutely reuse the old beautiful cosmetics containers! I would love to pick them up and feel the smoothness of the glass as I’m applying my face cream.
I used Pond's Cold Cream when I was in my teens - I think I had a peach-scented one, if I remember correctly. Also, I recently bought the empty Avon cream jar with the silver top. I bought it at an Antiques Mall, and it looks lovely on my vanity. Thanks for another great video!
Wow ! Great information. I had no idea about the Queen Helene. I see that around here in Florida stores. I am going to try the mask. Love to mask!! 💟👑thank you Laura
Your channel is amazing. I live and breathe the notion that if it's still going strong today it must work! My all time favorate beauty products is the original eight hour cream. I use it for everything!!
Great idea about using the old packaging to store the new ones in. Definitely interested in that video idea with the exception of the Ponds gift set I would leave that one alone to keep it's value plus it's pretty to look at intact :)
Where do you purchase/order. My mom is German but been in US a long time... Last time I ordered the "original formula" of Nivea face cream in a huge glass jar for her... We always try to spoil her since our dad passed away several years ago.
In my 20's I was discussing face cream with my aunt. She said to use Pond's because the formula has been around since my Grandma's time. I've been using it ever since.
I love your videos. The products themselves are a test if time. They are well made products that still provide for well groomed habits. I would like to see in a future video products that are some sort of a bleaching cream. To minimize dark spots on the face or skin. Thank you and I look forward to more informative videos.
Great video! Ponds has been my favorite for a long time. The scent is lovely and comforting to me too💝 I also love Okay! I miss there makeup, the lipstick was the best💕
I use ponds and my mom was an olay girl. She looked amazing til the day she died. Once in her forties a woman stopped and asked her for her skincare routine. It was soap, water and olay. The woman was shocked that was it. Turns out she was in development department of clinique
Does anyone remember the Avon cream perfumes in the little glass pots with flowers on the lid!?! Those and Tupperware take me back to my childhood in the 70’s.
Really enjoy your channel! 💐I was hoping this episode would include Woodbury Cold Cream. I have very sensitive skin and used this wonderful product with great results until the stores near me stopped carrying it. Could you locate this?
Other creams that you can still get today are nivea & the Great Britain version ‘Astral’ my nanny ingrained into me that moisturising is super important so I’ve been using these two (I switch them out) every day since a small child 😂 I always get compliments on my skin & no one knows how old I am ☺️ also astral is cruelty free and that’s also super important! For us to try and buy as many cruelty free things as we can. P.S Joanna Lumley uses astral x
I love Ponds, I use it every night with a washcloth for makeup removal. It gets all the makeup and sunscreen off. They make an un-scented version now too.
I love Oil of Olay and always have a bottle around. If I couldn't afford anything else, I could be content to use it all the time. I love that it was invented the year I was born. I remember one of my elderly aunts always had Avon rich moisture on her dresser. Those original Avon creams were affordable. Today, they come out with more and more high tech expensive creams, but my aunt had lovely skin! Jergen's lotion and soap were household staples when I was a child.
Hi Laura Jane! I absolutely am obsessed with your channel! We are both cut from the same cloth. As I have been traveling down to see my parents for Thanksgiving I have been binge watching your videos. I have purchased something, that you had suggested on Amazon already. You are a really huge help on products. Please keep doing what your doing. I love Pinky to. Beautiful kitty! 🥰 Have a wonderful Thanksgiving
Hi Laura, I use Jergens body lotion. I'll look for the face cream. Interested to try the Ponds also. You and I think alike. I too wish that Avon would bring back their beautiful packaging. My mom would buy the beautiful perfume "ladies" for Christmas presents. My first perfume was Avon's honesty packaged in a little bunny. They used to package mens cologne in race cars too.
It would be so nice to see how you store all of your vintage products. Have you ever considered doing a video on Lena Horne or Dorothy Dandridge? Love your style!
God, I looooove your videos!!! I am a new follower and I fell in love with you (nothing creepy xD) and your channel! You are so underrated. Wish you all the luck and happiness in the world! Keep up the good work :)))
I like Olay and have Some Old Milk glass beauty jars One big one with a Pink lid got off ebay not sure what kind lotion it had in it.This is so fun Thanks !! 😉 Sharon
