A vintage dressing story of my own; a art teacher said I looked like I should be in a painting.

So my two styles are: for Spring and Summer it's more cottagecore and more summery colors, like a Picknick in a flower field in France and for Autumn and Winter it's dark academia and Goblincore and more forest and earthy colors. Both with a vintage twist, of course.

When I started dressing more vintage, I was so nervous and just decided to do it. The 1st interaction was a complement and that was it. Sometimes I worry that I am too dressed up. But I always end up with nothing to worry about. I do get concerned that people may think I appear elitist, but hopefully not

Thank you for sharing your experience! I think these days there's no such thing as too dressed up, we all have to take joy in what we can and be true to ourselves, even if that means standing out! 💚

I really love 1930s-40s inspired styles and sort of modern versions of Edwardian style. I'm very early in the journey and just starting to look for items, so right now I basically just have a few fun skirts with modern tops. Will definitely be trying the twist and push situation, maybe it'll make it look more vintagey 😁

I bought a beautiful handmade skirt this year. It's beautiful brown colour and so flowy😍 (is that even a word? 😂) I try to avoid fast fashion when looking for 'vintage-inspired' stuff and it makes me feel like my clothes are more one of a kind ☺️
@SalindaNichols

Wow that skirt sounds absolutely perfect! I've been on the hunt for one like that (brown and flowy!) but I'm like you, I do my very best to avoid fast fashion besides getting it second hand. Its definitely the best way to get a unique wardrobe!

Also my hair is an absolute disaster, I've tried to cut it myself (a lockdown inspired middy if you will) It was a disaster and it does not cooperate with me since then 🙃 Let's hope it grows back fast 😂

Also wanted to say that I love all eras of vintage fashions but for Textile Art/Prints my favorites are the 20s (Art Deco) and the 60s (just fun, fun, fun)🤗
@SalindaNichols
@SalindaNichols 3 года назад
Yes those are two eras with amazing design work! Such fun and unique prints in the 60s especially, I have a few barbie cases from then. I don't feel any particular way about Barbie, but the 60s print and her cute dress on the box was too hard to resist! My mom is still mad that its in her storage... haha

I like to call my style vintage grandma/ storybook librarian. right now im obsessed with drapping offbeat cardigans over my shoulders like a cape as well as wearing cat eye glasses and saddle shoes as well as pearls.

New watcher and im getting back into vintage fashion after a while away thanks to some weight gain and other factors. I cant say what my favorite current piece is, but my favorite piece used to be a 1970s side button closure skirt from my Oma that was perfect really for any era as it kind of danced the line between a line and pencil skirt with two simple darts. U prefer clothes in the style of late 1950s and early 1960s where some more streamlined styles were coming into popularity but a fuller skirt would not be unusual either. I adore call the midwife although recent seasons are certainly crawling out of my favorite fashion era, but I love it regardless. The new season dropped on Netflix recently and I've just not had the time to watch it yet!

Personally i am the most into mid to late 1930s western European fashion (mostly casual or sporty menswear rather than formal) but I did not find the courage to wear it out to public yet as whenever i put it on I face harsh comments from my family, therefore i just take it off. But talking about that, i have just ordered two SJC shirts today that should be a lovely addition to my wardrobe :) Also, a great video for all of the begginers out there, keep it up, love your content!
@SalindaNichols
@SalindaNichols 3 года назад
The 1930s were so great for both mens and womens fashion! I'm so sorry you're getting push back from your family, that has to be very frustrating. But I'm happy that you're not letting that stop you from exploring your style! Thank you so much for your kind words :)

@@SalindaNichols another thing that i also came across and would like to just point out is that female's vintage fashion either is it dresses, skirts, blouses or anything else for the matter is much more affordable than males fashion, especially if you are of weird proportions like myself (tall and skinny) it is extremely hard to find a steal piece on ebay/etsy and well, lets not add that reproductions are extremelly expensive as well! So you ladies are hella lucky!
@SalindaNichols
@SalindaNichols 3 года назад
Absolutely, thank you for pointing that out! I did notice that this was (obviously) very women's fashion focused and thought about adding parts for men's fashion as well, but I'm definitely not as well informed on it! Perhaps a bit more research and a future video on vintage fashion for men in the future...

Awesome video! My main way to find inspiration is to use Pinterest. I have hundreds of pins of stuff that I like, as well as my "fashion icons" (loved yours haha, mine are Jyn Erso from Rogue One meets Floor Jansen from Nightwish, with some vintage styles thrown in the mix - yes it's weird lol). It's pretty depressing though to think about outfits when you work from home. I have invested in tops mostly since that's all you see on Zoom calls!
@SalindaNichols

Oh my goodness I love that style description! Stuff like that is why I love playing around with fashion, you can get so creative and obscure but it still makes sense to you. I'm just getting into decidedly dressing vintage. Over the years, I've played around with the hippie style from the late 60's and 90's revival of the style, but nothing authentic. I really want to explore vintage style and create more interesting outfits other than my go-to t-shirt and jeans. I have an 80's doing the 50's skirt and a 70's inspired modern skirt coming in the mail. I want to buy some Edwardian inspired and boho blouses to pair the skirts with and do lazy 1940's and Gibson girl hair. I'm going to put off make up at the moment but I'm thinking of playing with 1950's bold looks and the muted Edwardian style. I think I want to keep my summer looks pretty modern. Shirt shirts and crop tops, but make my cooler weather looks invoke the 40's, 50's, and 70's with Edwardian elements sprinkled in. It's gonna be a mess at first but I'll figure it out eventually. 😊

Very interesting video! Last year I fell in love with the 1860s,90s, 1900s, and also 1940s/1950s. So I’m building up a 50’s and late Victorian/Edwardian era wardrobe. 🙈
