This is such a cool looking set. The version you have is amazing as I have seen some of these missing so many parts and to have the original box is a win. Thank you for sharing. I loved, loved, LOVED! this playset as a kid. I didn't bother me at all that it did not appear in the movie. It was just a logical extension of Jawa culture. Sometimes, I imagined it was somewhere inside the gigantic Sandcrawler. Sometimes it was in their base somwhere else on Tatooine, It always stood right beside my Land of the Jawas playset in my play room. I played with this thing for hours. For weeks, really. I really only used the base for storage, and the crane and ramp not so much. I had memorized where every part belonged. It was like a jigsaw puzzle putting it away. It was also like lego in some ways when creating. Somehow, I lost some of the parts, and as an adult had to buy a whole new complete set, because finding the individual parts was too costly and time consuming. Still love it today and since I now have a complete one with box may try your ironing trick to get the box to behave, However, R2 w. 3 legs is out and stands among my loose figures. He's one of the few "unofficial" official Kenner Action Figires of the '78-'85 run. So anyone who robs my house and steals my DF and doesn't know this will only steal an incomplete Droid Factory with some of the best parts missing. SMH

You got a lot of mileage out of this playset from the sound of it, which is awesome! Some kids didn't really think too fondly of this one. But I think it's pretty sweet because as you say, there is a lot of "creating" and building potential with all those parts. I hope the ironing trick works wonders for your box!

This was one of my favorite sets. It also came with a sheet so you could reorder lost pieces

Kenner was pretty legit like that. Always made it possible for kids to get anything replaced that was missing or broke. That was part of their awesome legacy as a toy company.

I had this playset as a child. I played the hell out of it and ended up losing all the parts like a typical child. But this playset really got me into collecting the figures.

The 3rd leg R2 is cool, and this is a pretty cool set. I must say though if I was a kid back then I admittedly probably would have passed on this for a vehicle, or even a few more figures. Thats just me though. Happy you got to add it to the collection though 😉

From back in the day when playsets actually had play features and you could let your imagination run wild instead of being glorified display stands, looking at you Hasbro and your carbon freezing chamber, great review as always man.

I had this playset when I was little, but it was a used version, so it was missing some parts. I think one of my older siblings was lucky and got one when it first came out.

The Droid Factory has many parts, a lot of kids lost pieces when they got this playset. It happened....a lot.

Correct! Kenner was notorious for recycling old ideas for toys. They did it was the Land of the Jawas base for Hoth. And reused the bar from a western toy for the cantina.

You'll find the right one. I passed up many playsets before settling on this one. The box is a little beat up but she's still got it where it counts, Kid! :) Definitely stoked to have this in my collection. It was the very last playset I needed to complete the set of Kenner playsets.

I Don't know if I am having my own personal Mandela effect, but I don't remember my own set having the molded storage bins for the droid parts. I have seen the newer but differently colored variants that I am wanting to say were more similar to mine, only I definitely had the droid parts.

The DF seems to be an imaginary setup for the Jawas. Quite possibly the belly of the Sandcrawler. Your guess is as good as mine, James.

The Sandcrawler is one of the harder to find vehicles to track down. Sadly, I haven't done a video one on it yet. But it's on my list for the future.

Never owned this as a kid; I always thought it looked pretty lame. Of course, as an adult collector, I would LOVE to have one of these. That R2-D2 is a thorn in my side. I have a complete loose collection, but I don't have this version of R2, so do I really have a complete collection? MTFBWY
