With the Super Bowl this weekend, I decided to try making my own vintage style football, so I grabbed a regular football and broke it down to use as a template. The panels had a lip, so I used an iron to flatten them before tracing them onto some card stock. Once I had all the templates cut, I used them to trace and cut the outline out of some leather. Next, I punched the stitching holes and added the stitching around the lacing holes. And I of course also had to add my logo. The top seam was pretty pulpy, so I used some Tokonole to burnish the edges. Next, I punched out the lacing holes. Then I stitched all the panels together inside out. And once everything was stitched together, I could use the birthing hole to flip the football right side out. Then I could insert the bladder from the original football and inflate it. Then the only thing left was to add the laces to close up the birthing hole. And just like that I had a custom vintage style leather football! Let me know who you’re rooting for in the comments and as always, thanks for watching!
