I have started out astro using vintage to gauge the best focal length for me. I have even shot Andromeda with an old vintage Palinar lens from the 60's or 70's and my star adventurer. Its on my insta (same name as user on here) thanks for this video, it's good to see others using old glass

Another good video thank you. I have 3 vintage m42 lenses, 135mm x 2 and 200mm my best shot so far was taken with the 200mm of Orions nebulae. better than my others

I've been using adapted Minolta MD/Maxxum lenses on a A7. I've been happy with the results vs price of new lenses.

Chromatic aberration is quite often the issue with many old lenses as ED or similar glasses were typically not used (although there are a few exceptions). In terms of aberrations in general, film's poorer resolution did not show as easily the imperfections of the older lenses as compared to modern day highly pixellated CMOS sensors.

@@kamilkp i don't know. I dont own one, i'm just watching out to buy a new m1 macbook air to replace my windows desktop and i wanted to find out if Softwares like Pixinsight, Sirl or DSS work on the m1 macs. i couldn't find anything about this on the whole internet.

I think coma and aberration is a problem with most super fast lenses at the fastest speed

want to buy an old version of Nikon ED AF Nikkor 300mm 1: 4, i just bought a skywatcher tracker. Do you recommend this 300mm old lens is good in astrophotography? I have an old D7000 nikon

Nikon 200F4 135 2.8 ai And 180 2.8 ais all good for astro

Especially the Nikon Nikkor 180mm f/2.8 ED AI-S and its longer sibling the 300mm f/4.5 ED AI-S. The ED glass really makes a difference to chromatic aberration. I'm thinking the 200mm f/4 AI Nikkor might not make the grade in that respect given that it has no ED lens element.
