This pair of Sears Engineer Boots came in for a Resole. Once we had them opened up we noticed the geming was bad and replaced it. We then put on new welt and went with Baker leather soles and Dr.sole heels.

Using the blank (no brand logo) leather sole and rubber heel keeps the vintage feel on these. Amazing how solid Sears-brand boots were. If only we could buy stuff like this from the big box stores today! I'm continually impressed by your work and loving the videos.

Solid work bringing these back around. I've never seen someone make a "mock" 360 welt before like that. It's so interesting seeing these older products made by in this day and age one would consider a standard run of the mill store made so well. You aint getting that kind of quality from a store like home depot or walmart's brand items these days.

Why did engineer boots go from sleek to bulky? I know expensive Japanese brands are copying the old style but they are over a $1000. Is there a sleek engineer boots under $500?

Look up Wesco Mr Lou engineer boots. Cost around $700 to $800, i have a pair and they are amazing. Ebay and Grailed have second hand boots, be patient as good deals do come up from time to time.

Do you prefer the double needle welt method or the jerk needle?

It sort of depends on the footbed, if there is gemming we usually find a jerk needle to be sufficient and a bit faster, if there is a channeled holdfast we usually opt for double needle as it's easier to find all the original holes with an awl rather than a jerk needle, which isn't really meant to be used to pierce thicker leather. Whenever we relast boots or make new boots we use the double needle method
