If you want all the mojo and vibe of a vintage style Telecaster but you can't afford the 4 figure price tag, then check this out.
Vintage Guitars have launched the V59 Icon model. This guitar is due for release in November 2020.
Retailing at just £399 RRP in the UK, this is A LOT of guitar for not a lot of money!
Vintage have a bit of a reputation for making great guitars that sit in a very affordable price point and many big artists and players have sat up and taken note of this. It's not uncommon to see these guitars out on the road. They're durable and they sound great.
The V59 is quite obviously a vintage style Tele. It's been beaten, bruised and worked hard, but it still sings.
The Eastern Poplar body is a good weight (Vintage correct apparently), its resonant and it feels like it's rock solid. The guitar, like all Vintage models, is filled with electronics and hardware from Wilkinson. You get an aged Wilkinson bridge, aged control plate and aged vintage style tuners.
The Wilkinson pickups are hot but still retaining the vintage clarity and bite you'd expect from a real 50s Tele.
Tele style guitars are meant to be no frills. This guitar is a block of wood with some strings and some frets, and that's exactly how it should be. The distressed black finish is totally matte and looks incredible. There are lots of dents, chips and bumps to simulate a guitar that's been around the block a few times.
The neck is worn in with slight fretboard rolling for comfort. It feels played in. The finish on the next and fretboard is worn down to the wood in parts to capture the feel of a well loved instrument.
All in all, for the money, this is a guitar that can't be ignored. It plays, sounds and feels like it should cost 3 times as much as it does.

Some of the stuff they are making is unbelievable for the price point they sit in. This V59 was so much fun to demo. It has a lovely worn in feel on the neck. I loved this guitar.

I bought a Vintage V6 Icon distressed (strat copy) second hand a few weeks ago. It plays really well and although I don't like relic finishes, at the price I got it, it was worth taking a chance. When I got it the volume know was already faulty and I have to say, the stock wiring is terrible. I do like the rest of the hardware though. As I had to replace the volume knob anyway, I put some Fender Pure Vintage 65 pickups, a switchcraft jack and CTS pots in it. With those upgrades I paid about $450 in total and for that money, it is an amazing playing and sounding guitar. I also had a V100 Lemondrop (Peter Green Les Paul copy) years ago. I sold it but it was a pretty nice guitar as well. I have to say, if you can find one used, it is a brand worth taking a chance on. I would never buy a guitar in this price range new, as you can always find them used for about 50% of the price here. If I am not mistaken, the Reissued series is a bit higher spec´d (alder body) and non-relic.

The V6 guitars are great! I'm not the biggest fan of all relic finishes, I like some, but not all. I bet with those upgrades your guitar sounds killer! They make great platforms for upgrading and modding because the guitar itself is fantastic. Vintage definitely make some awesome stuff for the price point. They have really upped the quality in the last few years.

Thank you for your review, I agree with your opinion on the bridge pickup. I am a long time Vintage fan, the reliced/distressed models are not my flavour, though the brand has undisputed quality. When I followed your link, I found out Vintage has a 25 years anniversary in 2020. They have added a complete archive of all catalogs over the years, which is great for reference! I own a 2004 VS6 cherry red, a 2013 VXP6BK and a 2010 VS6VW. The cherry red is my favourite, because the horns were shaped closer to the original, and I like the metal tulip style tuners better.

Hey Umberto! Welcome to my channel, thank you for checking it out! Vintage make some awesome guitars. It's hard to believe that they don't cost a lot more than they do. 25 years seems crazy, I remember first seeing a Vintage in 2002/2003 when some friends at school started buying them. All my early experiences with the brand were all the VS6 model, but the original one that was the same shape as the Gibson SG. They changed it slightly a few years later, but now as you said, it's back to the old shape.

Oh man, thank you! That's so kind of you to say. I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for taking the time to check it out! These are great guitars. I haven't played the newer Classic Vibe, but I've played a few in the past and always liked them. They have a slightly different feel, the Classic Vibe range definitely has more of that vintage feel but these guitars from Vintage are killer too. This has a slightly more modern feel (Thinner neck, flatter fretboard) but it feels worn in and really comfortable too. I'd be hard pressed to pick between the two as well... but if in doubt... get both!! Thanks for subscribing! I look forward to seeing you get involved in more comments! 😀

@@LeighFugeGuitar So is the Classic Vibe more of "a handful" compared to the Vintage 59 Tele? I kinda have big hands. The usual Fender modern C neck seems fine for my hands. Would it be a big leap from the usual modern C of the Fenders? Coz as you said, the neck of the Vintage 59 is thinner? :)
@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar 3 года назад
Hey, sorry for the slow reply man! Yeah the Classic Vibe is definitely more of a handful, the V59 has a super slim neck, which is very pleasing to play, but personally I just prefer a bigger neck on a guitar. I feel Tele's need a fat neck. To go from the Fender C to the V59 wouldn't be a huge lead, it's noticeably thinner, but within a few minutes you get used to it.

@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar 3 года назад
The build quality is great. The fact they keep it in such a low price point is crazy for the price. They're great guitars. The relic always divides people. I think the big bit of relicing on the upper body is a little too much BUT I do think that after a few weeks of owning it (Especially after a few gigs) you'd naturally wear the blunt edge of it down and it would look a lot more natural. It's a great starting point for sure.

@LeighFugeGuitar 3 года назад
100% yes! I've been saying this for a long time. People overlook guitars, or any gear for that matter, because of the name on the headstock. There is a big vibe with a lot of musicians that if it doesn't say Gibson or Fender that it must be rubbish. There are so many amazing brands out there who make killer guitars for a fraction of the price, Vintage being one example. The WIlkinson hardware is really solid. People assume because it's cheap to buy that it's rubbish. Suhr have a Wilkinson bridge on the new Pete Thorne guitar and that costs about £3k! Thanks for checking out the video! Sounds and looks amazing! Honestly tho, how would you say it compares to a Squier Classic Vibe or a Mexi Tele, these guitars around this same price range?
@LeighFugeGuitar
@LeighFugeGuitar 3 года назад
Hey man, Great question. I haven't played a Classic Vibe in a while, but from memory the Classic Vibe had a more glossy next. The neck on the Vintage is almost raw wood, which I really like. It's not sticky at all, it's very smooth and your hand slides around. The Mex Tele is a good comparison. I actually think I prefer the feel of the Vintage compared to the Mex Teles I've played, however, I prefer the neck specs of the more traditional Fender and Squier style Teles, but that's purely subjective. The Vintage has a 14 inch radius fretboard, which is amazing. It plays so well, super fast, low action... but I personally just prefer the feel of a more rounded neck with a curved fretboard. I love the played in feel of the Vintage, it feels like a guitar that's been around the block. The Vintage is fantastic though. It's good enough to gig with. I'd happily take it out on stage and gig with it.

Hey, great question. There isn't actually any information online about this, so I'm not 100% sure what they are using. It's definitely not regular poly because it's a satin finish, it's not shiny like some guitars, but I also find it hard to believe it would be Nitro at this price. I suspect it's a very thin poly style finish that has been made to look Satin to give the impression of Nitro.
