Nice video again, Michael. I got that Mackay LP in the fall of '78 in the great Peaches raid, when i worked there, and spent every cent I earned on records. I'll have to go back and find your 'Lizard' video, as this LP also fascinates me to this day
thanks for the samples, I just saw that angel record and almost picked it up, i have the UK one in the series. speaking of large percussion groups I've been listening to Harry partch, fascinating stuff.
Interesting info on the Mackay album. Oompa w/ Wetton on vocals in 7 time; something to dance to. I had to get that Urbaniak release in the background as well, and perhaps that is Higgins and Univers Zero I spot as well..... I really enjoy the classical styled albums you show. Cheers, Richard
Hey Michael, thanks so much for the samples! I'm going to have to start looking for that Music Today series. It looks like Xenakis shows up on a couple others in the series. I also wasn't familiar with Duncan Mackay by name but I'll be checking out his albums for sure. I hope the show you attended was enjoyable!
Hi Bill! The show was very good but I was literally the only audience member. That's the way it goes with experimental music. I do have some other Xenakis on that Angel series. I will be picking up more of those because who can resist matching cover designs? For Duncan Mackay Score and Chimera are the ones to get. The later stuff I've heard from him was rather dull. Thanks for watching!
"Lizard" is a fantastic album. My personal KC-fave is "Islands"("Formentera Lady" WOW:) Must check out Xankis et al album. Sounded "right up my wheel house", as one says. All the best Sweden! 🙂
Hi Michael - I was searching yesterday for a reasonable copy of Chimera by Duncan Mackay - I picked up Score very cheap some years ago , really interesting album , definitely reminds me of Rick Wakeman at times and maybe Chimera is more Keith Emerson , either way interesting and talented guy and Andy McCulloch is excellent on this album.
