Very interesting Martin. I bought a friend record collection and was given a free box of records and I seem to have about seven or eight Cleo Laine records, and they are in mint condition. Quite like her. The sandwich goes with the martini or something like that. Cheers.

I will be sophisticated next time and rather have a Martini than a dirty Great beer 🍷 think my mum used to drink it. As long as not coconut I should be ok. Cleo Laine sort of ended up being on variety and comedy shows by the 1970s here but obviously whatever she sang she could still sing. Free records? Those whatever they are two magic words......

Sandwiches are good. Are You Being Served? no longer gets a coveted primetime TV slot here in Dallas. Our PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) station airs episodes at 11:30 PM on Sundays. (Keeping Up Appearances airs at 10:30 PM on Sundays.) Here’s what’s on the TV calendar in Dallas for this Saturday night: (PBS stations like to run the British shows on the weekends. Sunday night primetime is reserved for Masterpiece Theater. That program airs the "highbrow" British shows. The current series is Grantchester. It's worse than Downton Abbey.) 7 PM Doc Martin “Sons and Lovers 8 PM Father Brown “The Final Devotion” 9 PM New Tricks “The Fourth Man” 10 PM Good Neighbors (The Good Life) “The Day Peace Broke Out” 10:30 PM To the Manor Born “Series 2 Ep. 5” 11:00 PM Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin (No episode listing) 11:30 Blackadder Goes Forth “Goodbyeee” Cheers, Jacob

Sandy Denny left Fairport in 1969/ 1970 to form Fotheringay with her boyfriend at the time Trevor Lucas however Trevor joined Fairport and features on the Nine album (1973) then Sandy rejoined Fairport for the Rising of the Moon album (1975) until they both left Fairport after the Rising for the Moon album.

Good evening to my longtime friend Martin. Nice to see you again on this Monday evening. One of my all time favorite songs is titled "Monday". And it has nothing to do with the Boomtown Rats, The Bangles, the Mama's & the Papa's or Happy Mondays. It is by the one and only Jam. The second Lene Lovich's album 'Flex' sounds so much different than the first. The first is fantastic. The second one has a much better production. >< Quick story. I was working at Strawberries when the first TT Darby album came out. We could not keep it in the store. It sold tremendously well. >< I do have the Dumptruck album. They are from Boston and they did very well in the club circuit. >< That Gary Numan single for 'Cars' and the great 'Are Friends Electric' is from the superb best of album called Exhibition 1978 to 1983. How far is Windsor from your house? It sounds like a lovely place to visit. Everywhere that you mention in England sounds like lovely places to visit. I picture England as a scenic, friendly and not overcrowded like it is here in this country. >< Checking out The Sabres Of Paradise right now. Thanks for sharing all of your new pickups. It was fab once again M~ Rob/Boston

TTD's follow up really did flop big time. It's certainly more eccentric. Windsor is about an hour away though not far on the map, there's alot more traffic once you get around the edge of London and the biggest airport is there too. I think you'd like it here there is plenty of countryside even more quiet in Wales, Scotland and northern England as outside of the cities areas are sparsely populated. Certainly with your gardening prowess you'd enjoy the very variable nature and scenery. I sometimes watch videos of traveling around the US as I find fascinating particularly when a freeway is built and places die and depopulate, sad and I'm not being morbid, just leaves so much space I get the idea how vast it is there. Morrissey (maybe I already said) is playing here real soon, a largish theatre. I see Eli just saw him in Israel and just posted a concert. I watched him at the suede gig there that looked rocking. Have a good week there, summer is stuttering ATM some nicer days than others, rain is at least keeping garden green.

Hi Martin. Mark Lamarr used to do a reggae show on Radio 2. That’s what got me into reggae. He’s a brilliant DJ. Knows his onions. Hang on! What’s wrong with a bit of UB40. Clean those ears out!
@Thevinylscavenger

Nothing wrong with a bit of, just not those obvious and tiresome covers.

Evening Martin. I saw Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth at York Opera House many moons ago, it was quite a good night as I recall. Used to love Sabres of Paradise back in the nineties. I'm deliberately avoiding all Vangelis LPs now as there's just far too many and they're far too affordable. Intriguing to hear about people getting downtrodden by extreme views on the VC, tell us more! I wonder what Mark Lamarr is doing these days...he walked away from all his BBC work didn't he. I met him many years ago, in the doorway of BBC TV-centre. He was just coming out and I was going in, dressed as Mr Spock from Star Trek.
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
See there is an autobiographical music book in you James, now need to know why were you dressed as Spock going to the BBC? Was that illogical? Lamarr seemed very easy to chat with though I'm sure he's fed up of the usual questions. He's a definite known collector though first time I've seen him at a fair (I've heard people mention him before) I rather forwardly gave him my new CD so no idea what he'll make of that. Vangelis, yes it's a habit I admit I just can't stop it.

Vinyl Club Sandwich . I think that Who - I Can't Explain mca is the 1978 US reissue. I see the link with the last video, Mark Lamarr interviewed Bernard Manning !

I'll have to Google for that. Actually that was not intentional but now I can claim that it was.

Well that was a ton of stuff I have never seen or heard of Fan Death looked interesting Slim Whitman, your a brave soul Martin. Thank you for the mention. I have to rely on a cat Martin to get views. When he drops dead I am really screwed.
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
It's rare our cat makes an appearance and I prefer he doesn't come in that room to ruin my records with his claws. Slim Whitman is in abundance here too but a good yodel I couldn't refuse.

Hi Martin - Windsor fair sounded nice. I didn't bother with Reading but I am keen to see the new venue. Nice to get Fairport for £1. I've had that Vangelis but don't think it was particularly exciting. I think that Hank Marvin album is supposed to be good, I would have bought it. I felt you were holding back a bit with the meat in that sandwich. I've picked-up a few singles lately but need to resist getting too into them. Cheers Dale
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
Yeah, you see right I was holding back, it was a very plain cheese sandwich with small amount of pickle. £1.50. The Hank one has semi religious lyrics but sounded great, you know like beautifully produced sound of that time. Warm? Vangelis certainly pumped them out didn't he? I'm easily into double figures of his now. 7"s take absolutely ages to go through (and discogs/reading glasses needed) but rewards seem greater ATM. Cheers, Martin.

Hi Martin - thought you were going to show The Jam or Marmalade in the middle part of the 'sandwich' 😀 Unfortunately Kenny Lynch was not in the Northern Soul scene - he is though one of the celebs on the cover of Band On The Run. A few of the guys that stall at the Southampton record fair also stall at the monthly Windsor fair - I hear that its usually pretty good.
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
That is a link I was oblivious too but see now. I may keep this format I think it may work what did you think? Never been to Southampton but did meet Harris Pilton fellow VC'er couple of months ago in Reading. Most fairs ATM seem to be more competitive therefore better for buyers which is a good thing.

Hi Martin My mum really likes Cleo Laine and Johnny Dankworth. It's interesting that Vangelis was one of those artists whos' passing didn't affect the price of his records whatsoever ( record shops and dealers usually cynically exploit that situation). Fairport and Quicksilver for a £1..take that all day. I saw Steves' video and i agree, he was very candid and open..i gave up worrying about likes and subs a long time ago. Enjoyable sarnie.
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
Haha Vangelis yes another copy of chariots of fire? No thanks! Was there still criticism from folkies when Fairport picked up electric guitars? My auntie and uncle did alot of 'folk' music therefore my cousins all dislike it and have a complete aversion (clown terror levels) to Morris dancing......
@robison5396
@robison5396 Год назад
@@Thevinylscavenger I think once Dylan had gone ' electric' the landscape for folk music had changed forever..the die hards kept to traditional vocal and acoustic arrangements, other more progressive acts like Pentangle and Fairport just did what they wanted..( to be fair, the former was more blues and jazz initially).
@johnbellamy3406
@johnbellamy3406 Год назад
Hi Martin, Wow, you got a Fairport album for a pound. Nice. I didn't know you were into that sort of thing. Oh and quicksilver. They are really good. I watched that Video by Steve Carlson. At least I think it was the same one. He spoke about the amount of people that just seem to stop making videos. There have been so many do that since I started I can't even remember who there were. Seems a shame if they are people that make interesting videos. I watched until the end Martin, so be sure to say hello to me. I think we should start a VC thread where we each remember a VC video maker that vanished and stopped making videos. I'm sure everyone has their favorite.
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
That's an excellent idea. I think I've done well to keep going so long and not f f f fade away like many who probably got far more subs than me but lost interest or got too big for their boots. Oooh there goes another one off Beachy Head the VC cliff. Still better to be dead and forgotten than forgotten and not dead.

A real mixed bag Martin.....firstly that Madness sleeve is correct . When is the next Reading fair ??? I'd be up for that one,not been to Reading for many years,always loved that area. I really can't imagine John Inman mincing around with a tuba or a cornet etc... 😄😄😄 I actually met Cleo Lane way back in the early 80s at a fete . I don't mind the odd UB40 7" single but I much prefer the Tony Tribe skinhead reggae version of Red Red Wine 👍👍👍 Its always great seeing somebody showing 7" singles in the VC and what a surprise the Mark Lamar story was 👍👍👍 Hopefully catch you at a record fair this year....all the best matey.

Good example of original being better. I think probably UB40 went or got forced into making pop hits. I will try to grab you on a live Thursday feed. Lamarr frequents many record fairs apparently and he said that to me too. Did you want the Madness 7" it's yours if you do.

Interesting stuff Martin. Like the sandwich concept. I’m just trying to think of new ideas..& it’s hard! I’m trying to think of that Killer idea! 😆 . I’ve always chatted away to Mark Lamar on Twitter about music he shows, very cordial, he always seemed quite engaged ...then two months ago he blocked me! Cheeky git! Literally no reason for it!
@Thevinylscavenger
@Thevinylscavenger Год назад
He seemed a nice enough guy though he didn't spot the Gene Vincent or Elvis singles there, maybe those are too common I dunno. Yeah I think the sandwich concept could run even in the shorts here on RU-vid.

You are brave buying a yodeling album. The Terrence Trent "Darby is a good album. I have a few 12" singles from that album but never bought the actual album. The vinyl sandwich idea has me thinking. Two bread sections with a meaty bit in the middle. Maybe show some albums that could be considered the bread of their career. Followed by the meat of their career and ending with some more bread. I'm going to give this more thought. It will most likely go nowhere because I'm not bright enough to do this concept justice.

Haha hi Patrick me neither really, how's it going? Just thinking you've been like myself making videos a long time do you remember when you started? Things have changed alot over the years there are some people missed, others not so much 😂 The stories you've told have been very entertaining to say the least.
