Today we bring out some of the Viper .410 2.5" 11/16oz TSS 9.5s and put them to the test at 40 yards through the Mossberg 500 .410 Turkey and a Carlson's Heavyweight TSS .385 choke. We definitely saw some pretty interesting results from this combo, so stick around and see how it performs!

I like your evalutation pattern was pretty even but getting a little sparce and I agree, not exactly desirable but not exactly a failure either. Would say 8's in TSS stay together tighter or what is your opinon onthat. I love those turkey shoot and see targets and then you can actually use them on slugs , big holes , lol dual purpose target.

Glad you enjoy! Yeah, the recent BC targets have been absolutely terrible unfortunately. As for the TSS 8s, I have very minimal experience with them, and none in a 410 shell, so I really can't say if they consistently pattern better or not. I definitely wouldn't mind testing some TSS 7s or 8s to see if we do notice any difference or not

Definitely hit high in a lot of holes in that pattern

I tried several Carlson‘s back in the late 80s in the 90s. Price wise, they were the entry level, dollar store economy value of choke tubes. My factory tubes always pattern better than Carlson’s. I’m sure they’ve come a long way since then, but I still have a bad taste in my mouth from several of them that I bought and tried through the years. I definitely would try some other brand choke tubes. Kicks are my favorite for the money. If you don’t get an acceptable pattern, they’ll actually let you send it back in and they’ll swap you for another tube.

I can't speak for the older Carlson's chokes, but the ones I have tried have always done well as long as the shell was halfway decent

My top barrel is 0.377 on my O/U Mossberg. my bottom is 0.383 and I have never tested tss in it.

Based on my experience with Mossbergs and turkey shells, that setup would be a pretty good performer with some TSS

Add juice to herders 410 turkey shells TSS in my Mossberg 500 what to fix full choke not the one you use Mossberg 500 at the old 410 Mossberg 500 that just has a full choke but the herders 410 turkey loads TSS ran through it pretty good in my nephew got his first turkey 🦃 with that Emma

I disagree on this being the choke. 2.5 inch 410 shells tend to be poor performers in everything I’ve seen. I’ve shot 9, 9.5, and 10 through a Carlsons .385 and pattern master .381. 9.5’s were similar for both, 9’s and 10’a both shot better about the .385. I think it could be the choke, but I don’t put much credence in constriction differences between .385 and .380 mattering as much as the particular choke and its geometry and how that jives with the shell. Too much inconsistency in all the patterning between all the chokes in that range to say the constriction is the culprit.

We still have more chokes to test it through, so we will see what happens. They did much better through the stock .380 choke, and based off my previous testing, the smaller shot sizes do perform better with those tighter chokes. It could just be that it's a 2.5" shell, but since we've already seen better, I bet a lot of it has to do with the choke
