UNC seeks revenge for a heartbreaking loss the prior year in Charlottesville. This video includes parts of the game, including a replay of Dre Bly's key interception return for a touchdown and most of UVA's second-half collapse. UNC would take a 48-20 victory and stay undefeated.

That UNC defense was unreal. Amazing talent at every position. FSU was just so talented that year. If had been any other year, UNC would have won it all.

Jim Knight is my grandfather, he's still doing fine and stuff, just thought I'd say that in case anyone was wondering what happened to him.

Thanks for letting us know. I remember back in high school when an official died during a game, and when I saw Mr. Knight collapse, I was like "OMG, it's happening again." But thank God he pulled thru and am so glad he's alright. Do you or your granddad have a copy of this entire game? It was a very good game.

I was shocked it happened at first I was like what the hell! Then afterwards my thoughts and prayers were with him and his family glad he pulled through!

I was at this game as a kid. My friend's dad was the medic who revived him. Glad he's doing well.

glad to hear that. Watching this happen on TV is one of the last memories I have of my father, who died about a month after this (also dean smith retiring out of nowhere two weeks after this game). I end up thinking about it every now and then but never had the idea to see if I could look for anything about it online A quote in the AP news article about it at the time has stuck with me since then, for whatever reason: "if someone was to have a heart attack, this was the best situation to have one in."

It was very fortunate your grandfather survived an on-field heart attack. Rich McVay, a BIg Ten referee, succumbed to a massive heart attack during the 1982 Michigan State-Illinois game in Champaign.

Great revenge for that 1996 game. That game still stung like crazy at the time and that second half here was so sweet. Loved this 97 team and it's a shame they couldn't keep Mack around.

Was at the game...Jim Knight was a neighbor...my older daughter was a UNC student trainer...5:36 on the video...long hair, white cap and shirt....soon decided athletic trainer was not for her...long hours and average pay despite advanced degree...Now, board-certified ER MD...Normal work hours and good pay.

the value of athletic trainers is so underappreciated. I am applying for the program in the fall, and they are some of the most knowledgeable people for their degree. I really want to be a sports med physician though.

I was at this game with my wife. Will never forget seeing referee Jim Knight basically die on the field of a massive heart attack, only to be zapped back to life by the paramedics.

It felt good to be at this game after the awful fluke loss the previous year that kept us out of a major bowl. The defense in that period was amazing. Of course you could do a lot of stuff on defense when both of your corners can play man against quality receivers.

The emt who revived Jim Knight the referee who had a heart attack on the field was a member of my church. He received a standing ovation during worship service the next day.

I was at this game UNC played horrible in the 1st half. In the 2nd half they absolutely floored UVA!

I was at this game! When the referee Jim Knight collapsed he was right in front of us. Absolutely stunned but so glad he recovered. One of my all time favorite refs!
