Virginia Trout Fishing 

Golden Rainbows/Palomino trout are SO weird. They are genetically inferior and I'm almost certain that something is off in their brains when it comes to feeding. I used to think it was just the fact that everyone can see the golden trout so it gets fished for a lot therefore is smarter, but when WV started the Gold Rush stockings and every single fish is a golden trout, they still act EXACTLY the same! Following baits over and over and over again and very challenging to get them to commit. We did the best with trout magnets or tungsten ice jigs tipped with half of a meal worm. Something about the scent of that mealworm drove them nuts.

@@nolanminor6761 Your spot on when you say they are wierd, they really dont act like the rainbows at all. Ive fished a hole with a mix of goldens and bows but usually catch a limit of bows before a golden even bites. I did finally catch a golden on a 2" minnow of all things but I think It was hungry and got tired of seeing powerbait getting tossed at it all day. It went nuts before it ate it like they usually do when they get excited by a bait or lure. I like your ice jig and meal worm idea. Ill have to try that sometime. Just an expression about heavy fishing pressure!

Been a while since I've fished up there, I spent a ton of time fishing Sugar Hollow when I was in high school. Fun place to fish!
