VISIBLE VS INVISIBLE DISABILITIES (with Sam Humphrey) 

By far one of the most annoying things about being an aspie girl (aside from the symptoms) is when you tell people and they say "aw I don't think you have autism, you seem fine" it's just so rude and people need to stop doubting doctors and psychologists opinions

I always get told im "not disabled enough" because you cant see my disability. This definitely frustrates me because it limits me on the help i need to receive but cants because im "not disabled enough"

When Chloe said “people assume that I should be extremely good at doing this thing” and she said “but I’m not” I was like “well you are good at crying about One Direction” 😂😂😂

I love this! I'm in the Autism spectrum and it's so frustrating because people don't know that I have a disability and when I get overwhelmed or start flapping my hands or get overly excited or upset people keep are like what's wrong with you? I also have a lot of friends with physical disabilities and the world is not as accessible as it needs to be for them or for mev

I legit nearly cried when I was scrolling my feed and saw Sam with you!! The Greatest Showman is an absolute masterpiece of a movie and this is the first time me seeing both of you together on a Q&A style vid!!! *squeals with happiness*

My girlfriend (Cerebral Palsy) and I (autism) talk about this a lot. One thing that's kind of funny is that because she walks with a limp people think I'm the one that takes care of her and while I like to say we take care of each other, she probably takes care of me more. She's had to stay up til 3:00am just constantly reminding me that she loves me and that things are going to be okay cause I was on the brink of a meltdown, the most I've really had to do is massage a spasm out of her leg and request a wheelchair at a flower garden and that's just cause she was on the phone with her mom.

I want to thank you Chole as much as Sam for making this video:)!! You guys both would really understand what I am going through!!! I have experienced copious amounts of stigma because I have physical problems that can not be seen with the naked eyes and I also have learning disabilities. I have Auto-Immune Problems as well as physical injuries. I have Interstitial Cystitis which is a disease of the bladder walls as well as severe Diarrhea Problems. People can be very mean to me when I get spells in using the bathroom several times in an hour. Since, I do not "look sick" many people can think its "emotional" when it is really physical when I have to go to the bathroom. I also have a history of Barret's Esophagus and have to take medicine to eat solid food. Everyone also can not see inside my Esophagus any more than they can see inside my bladder or bowels. Since, I do not "look sick" I can be judged, mistreated, and some people will want to believe that I am either "emotionally ill" or "lazy", which is not true at all!!! The only thing everyone can see is my Raynaud's Disease which is a disease of the blood vessels in which when I am cold my hands turn black and blue. I also have arthritis and a herniated disc in my back. Thus, between my bladder disease and other physical problems that I mentioned that cause chronic physical pain, but because people can not "see it" most people expect me to be able to do more than I am able to do. Some people have been mean to me when I was at my sickest and in a lot of physical pain, but I do not look sick so they feel justified to be judgmental and down right cruel. Also, I have learning disabilities, but I am average intelligence. Because I can speak well, but have trouble memorizing and concentrating, some people can get down right angry if I do not learn something fast. Also, sometimes when people hear I am learning disabled, they can treat me like I am retarded, when that is just not the truth. So, I could go on and on with how much I have been mistreated because people can not "see" what is physically wrong with me with their naked eyes, but I would be writing a book. So thank you Chole and Sam for addressing the stigmas of disabilities seen and unseen. I would like to see more of these videos in the future:).

I find watching you so calming and uplifting Chloe! I love your energy and your outgoingness and you’re so bubbly. My daughter is so like you (the you that we see in your vids, is what she is in life), she’s 7 and different, and I hope she never loses those qualities and zest! We are so lucky to have differently abled people in this world because you all light up the world!

I told my friends that I was get tested for autism and one of them gave me such a weird look I don’t know if she was being rude or just realised everything made sense haven’t talked to her in quite a few months because I’m at a more appropriate school and I’m very glad about that

As an Autistic person, it meant so much to me that they included a person with an invisible disability in Jeremy the Dud. In particular I found it so powerful that they didn't explain. The message that not all disabilities are obvious and that doesn't need to be explained was so clear.

Instant like and subscribe because I'm a 4 foot 9, 27 year old Autistic hermit with Cystic Fibrosis, and a long list of comorbids. This all adds up to me having mental and physical disabilities, both visible and invisible. Because I use accessibility items like my walker, backpack of needed items including a stuffed animal and noise blockers, and an able bodied companion, people automatically know I'm *Very Disabled*. Which means *A Lot* of staring, all of it awkward. There's a ton of stigma there too, most of it instant, and some of it due to other areas of my life. Luckily, as a hermit, the vast majority of my life is accessible, because the places I do go to are Walmart, Fast Food, and Dr's offices, and I'm otherwise in my very accessible home. I don't have a driver's license anymore as I happily switched it for an ID card. PS, I adore watching your hands as you talk, because I'm the same with my hands.

I am pretty sure I have ADHD / ASD and I would really like to get a diagnosis sometime soon so I can get accommodations in college but I am concerned about how professors will react, mainly because I am in the honors college and am extremely smart. People might insist I don't need any accommodations because I already get really good grades. but I know I will struggle with things other than everyday coursework, and even if I do okay, doesn't everyone deserve a chance to reach their full potential?

I definitely get that. People don't just recognize that I'm autistic, but alot of the time when they do, (meaning when I actually tell them) they start talking to me in more simplex terms and use a tone similar to that used when taking to a very young child. It makes me so mad I almost wanna build and detonate a wicked bomb just so I can be like "you think I'm a fukn kid huh? Can kids make bombs? Huh? HUH!?" But then I realize....shit, I definitely shouldn't do that I'm probably gonna terrify them and get myself shot. But DAMN it's so frustrating lmfao 😆

I'm not diagnosed with autism yet, but looking for one. The part about working and being autistic really hits me. I was probably the best employee at my previous job, but they wouldn't let move up as a manager because of the way I acted sometimes. I've now realized that they were my (possible) autistic tendencies, but no one understood why I did the things I did, even myself for a while. I'm now looking for a job that could be better for me and could possibly help cater to things I'd need (letting me stim, helping if I'm sensory overloaded, being able to work by myself when needed).

I consistently rely on my physical disabilities when I need time off work bc it doesn't feel like my invisible ones are "legitimate" enough-- and I know that's just the overall societal stigma bc we work with disable populations, particularly autistic and dyslexic kids, regularly and my bosses are amazingly understanding all the time. Yet I still default to the gastroparesis and endometriosis over the autism, anxiety, or depression when I'm having a bad day

I am legally blind I have about six mental health diagnoses and may have but I’m not sure yet have autism and believe me when it comes down to being hit slap flat in the face with accessibility issues and people not understanding or realizing things is a big problem correction make that seven because I also have major depressive disorder which is kind of hidden but can make itself known so when you throw all of my mental health issues and the possibility of having autism in the same mix with being legally blind and trying to get around not be scared out of my mind by everything really is hard for people to understand or difficulty with navigating because of it all hate noise can’t stay in large crowds I struggle with all of that let alone socializing and talking with people it’s very hard because it I can’t catch on to the social cues or sometimes I can tell when somebody’s joking but mostly not exactly

We need a diverse world then yes it will cater to all types of individuals needs...just takes some level of empathy and planning. There are many places now that do have toilets for people with disabilities and they are called disabked toilets so i have to call them that too, says that on the door. Many cafes and shopping centres and cinemas do have wheel chair access....so our world is changing but slowly. We need to acknowkedge the changes in order to move forwards. Chloe, Sam, Thank you for your practical insights into being different. As you mentioned, we're all oddballs. But, there are societal generalizations about what is "normal". And, if we don't fit neatly into the (harmful) generalization, we're going to experience some negative impacts. This begs the question of how we (society) can move toward open consideration of almost everyone. This is an important issue. Any ideas from your experiences? Thanks, Dave

I have a mental illness and if I say something get the but you don't look/seem like it. I am high functioning so get the 3rd degree when people hear that I am on disability (same thing capable in some areas but it impinges my life enough that I can't hold down a job).

I have both visible and invisible disabilities.

The other side of being assumed you can't do things, if assuming you can! You don't get support unless you ask for it, which (I'm sure not only speaking for myself), I'm so ashamed to ask & fearful of harsh judgement. So people with invisible disabilities mortgages often can struggle alone daily.
