I was born in this beautiful city and lived there for a time. This was my mother's hometown. I worked at Winchester college briefly when I was 19 and frequented The Old Vine pub. Living in Canada since 1960 has not prevented me from visiting England and my birthplace.
I was brought up in Winchester and went to Stanmore Junior School from 1954 to 1960. In 1956/7ish The Queen came to open the new Law Courts at the top of the High St. We had to have very shiny shoes and the whitest of socks! I saw her gloved hand waving at us. My heart was in my mouth! Unforgettable! I adore Winchester and wish I could move back. I've been in Australia since 1978. Pining for the 'fjords' regularly! Do visit this fascinating city! It is magical on so many levels.
